20 “Go, stand in the temple and speak to the people (A)all the words of this life.”

21 And when they heard that, they entered the temple early in the morning and taught. (B)But the high priest and those with him came and called the [a]council together, with all the [b]elders of the children of Israel, and sent to the prison to have them brought.

Apostles on Trial Again

22 But when the officers came and did not find them in the prison, they returned and reported, 23 saying, “Indeed we found the prison shut securely, and the guards standing [c]outside before the doors; but when we opened them, we found no one inside!” 24 Now when [d]the high priest, (C)the captain of the temple, and the chief priests heard these things, they wondered what the outcome would be. 25 So one came and told them, [e]saying, “Look, the men whom you put in prison are standing in the temple and teaching the people!”

26 Then the captain went with the officers and brought them without violence, (D)for they feared the people, lest they should be stoned. 27 And when they had brought them, they set them before the council. And the high priest asked them, 28 saying, (E)“Did we not strictly command you not to teach in this name? And look, you have filled Jerusalem with your doctrine, (F)and intend to bring this Man’s (G)blood on us!”

29 But Peter and the other apostles answered and said: (H)“We ought to obey God rather than men.

20 “Go, stand in the temple courts,” he said, “and tell the people all about this new life.”(A)

21 At daybreak they entered the temple courts, as they had been told, and began to teach the people.

When the high priest and his associates(B) arrived, they called together the Sanhedrin(C)—the full assembly of the elders of Israel—and sent to the jail for the apostles. 22 But on arriving at the jail, the officers did not find them there.(D) So they went back and reported, 23 “We found the jail securely locked, with the guards standing at the doors; but when we opened them, we found no one inside.” 24 On hearing this report, the captain of the temple guard and the chief priests(E) were at a loss, wondering what this might lead to.

25 Then someone came and said, “Look! The men you put in jail are standing in the temple courts teaching the people.” 26 At that, the captain went with his officers and brought the apostles. They did not use force, because they feared that the people(F) would stone them.

27 The apostles were brought in and made to appear before the Sanhedrin(G) to be questioned by the high priest. 28 “We gave you strict orders not to teach in this name,”(H) he said. “Yet you have filled Jerusalem with your teaching and are determined to make us guilty of this man’s blood.”(I)

God’s Revelation to Elijah

11 Then He said, “Go out, and stand (A)on the mountain before the Lord.” And behold, the Lord (B)passed by, and (C)a great and strong wind tore into the mountains and broke the rocks in pieces before the Lord, but the Lord was not in the wind; and after the wind an earthquake, but the Lord was not in the earthquake; 12 and after the earthquake a fire, but the Lord was not in the fire; and after the fire [a]a still small voice.

13 So it was, when Elijah heard it, that (D)he wrapped his face in his mantle and went out and stood in the entrance of the cave. (E)Suddenly a voice came to him, and said, “What are you doing here, Elijah?”

So I went and hid it by the Euphrates, as the Lord commanded me.
