Offerings for the Tabernacle^(A)

25 The Lord said to Moses, ²“Tell the Israelites to bring me an offering. You are to receive the offering for me from everyone whose heart prompts^(B) them to give. ³These are the offerings you are to receive from them: gold, silver and bronze; ⁴blue, purple and scarlet yarn^(C) and fine linen; goat hair; ⁵ram skins dyed red and another type of durable leather^[a];^(D) acacia wood;^(E) ⁶olive oil^(F) for the light; spices for the anointing oil and for the fragrant incense;^(G) ⁷and onyx stones and other gems to be mounted on the ephod^(H) and breastpiece.^(I)

⁸“Then have them make a sanctuary^(J) for me, and I will dwell^(K) among them. ⁹Make this tabernacle and all its furnishings exactly like the pattern^(L) I will show you.

The Ark^(M)

¹⁰“Have them make an ark^[b]^(N) of acacia wood—two and a half cubits long, a cubit and a half wide, and a cubit and a half high.^[c] ¹¹Overlay^(O) it with pure gold, both inside and out, and make a gold molding around it. ¹²Cast four gold rings for it and fasten them to its four feet, with two rings^(P) on one side and two rings on the other. ¹³Then make poles of acacia wood and overlay them with gold.^(Q) ¹⁴Insert the poles^(R) into the rings on the sides of the ark to carry it. ¹⁵The poles are to remain in the rings of this ark; they are not to be removed.^(S) ¹⁶Then put in the ark the tablets of the covenant law,^(T) which I will give you.

¹⁷“Make an atonement cover^(U) of pure gold—two and a half cubits long and a cubit and a half wide. ¹⁸And make two cherubim^(V) out of hammered gold at the ends of the cover. ¹⁹Make one cherub on one end and the second cherub on the other; make the cherubim of one piece with the cover, at the two ends. ²⁰The cherubim^(W) are to have their wings spread upward, overshadowing^(X) the cover with them. The cherubim are to face each other, looking toward the cover. ²¹Place the cover on top of the ark^(Y) and put in the ark the tablets of the covenant law^(Z) that I will give you. ²²There, above the cover between the two cherubim^(AA) that are over the ark of the covenant law, I will meet^(AB) with you and give you all my commands for the Israelites.^(AC)

The Table^(AD)

²³“Make a table^(AE) of acacia wood—two cubits long, a cubit wide and a cubit and a half high.^[d] ²⁴Overlay it with pure gold and make a gold molding around it. ²⁵Also make around it a rim a handbreadth^[e] wide and put a gold molding on the rim. ²⁶Make four gold rings for the table and fasten them to the four corners, where the four legs are. ²⁷The rings are to be close to the rim to hold the poles used in carrying the table. ²⁸Make the poles of acacia wood, overlay them with gold^(AF) and carry the table with them. ²⁹And make its plates and dishes of pure gold, as well as its pitchers and bowls for the pouring out of offerings.^(AG) ³⁰Put the bread of the Presence^(AH) on this table to be before me at all times.

The Lampstand^(AI)

³¹“Make a lampstand^(AJ) of pure gold. Hammer out its base and shaft, and make its flowerlike cups, buds and blossoms of one piece with them. ³²Six branches are to extend from the sides of the lampstand—three on one side and three on the other. ³³Three cups shaped like almond flowers with buds and blossoms are to be on one branch, three on the next branch, and the same for all six branches extending from the lampstand. ³⁴And on the lampstand there are to be four cups shaped like almond flowers with buds and blossoms. ³⁵One bud shall be under the first pair of branches extending from the lampstand, a second bud under the second pair, and a third bud under the third pair—six branches in all. ³⁶The buds and branches shall all be of one piece with the lampstand, hammered out of pure gold.^(AK)

³⁷“Then make its seven lamps^(AL) and set them up on it so that they light the space in front of it. ³⁸Its wick trimmers and trays^(AM) are to be of pure gold. ³⁹A talent^[f] of pure gold is to be used for the lampstand and all these accessories. ⁴⁰See that you make them according to the pattern^(AN) shown you on the mountain.

The Tabernacle^(AO)

26 “Make the tabernacle^(AP) with ten curtains of finely twisted linen and blue, purple and scarlet yarn, with cherubim^(AQ) woven into them by a skilled worker. ²All the curtains are to be the same size^(AR)—twenty-eight cubits long and four cubits wide.^[g] ³Join five of the curtains together, and do the same with the other five. ⁴Make loops of blue material along the edge of the end curtain in one set, and do the same with the end curtain in the other set. ⁵Make fifty loops on one curtain and fifty loops on the end curtain of the other set, with the loops opposite each other. ⁶Then make fifty gold clasps and use them to fasten the curtains together so that the tabernacle is a unit.^(AS)

⁷“Make curtains of goat hair for the tent over the tabernacle—eleven altogether. ⁸All eleven curtains are to be the same size^(AT)—thirty cubits long and four cubits wide.^[h] ⁹Join five of the curtains together into one set and the other six into another set. Fold the sixth curtain double at the front of the tent. ¹⁰Make fifty loops along the edge of the end curtain in one set and also along the edge of the end curtain in the other set. ¹¹Then make fifty bronze clasps and put them in the loops to fasten the tent together as a unit.^(AU) ¹²As for the additional length of the tent curtains, the half curtain that is left over is to hang down at the rear of the tabernacle. ¹³The tent curtains will be a cubit^[i] longer on both sides; what is left will hang over the sides of the tabernacle so as to cover it. ¹⁴Make for the tent a covering^(AV) of ram skins dyed red, and over that a covering of the other durable leather.^[j]^(AW)

¹⁵“Make upright frames of acacia wood for the tabernacle. ¹⁶Each frame is to be ten cubits long and a cubit and a half wide,^[k] ¹⁷with two projections set parallel to each other. Make all the frames of the tabernacle in this way. ¹⁸Make twenty frames for the south side of the tabernacle ¹⁹and make forty silver bases^(AX) to go under them—two bases for each frame, one under each projection. ²⁰For the other side, the north side of the tabernacle, make twenty frames ²¹and forty silver bases^(AY)—two under each frame. ²²Make six frames for the far end, that is, the west end of the tabernacle, ²³and make two frames for the corners at the far end. ²⁴At these two corners they must be double from the bottom all the way to the top and fitted into a single ring; both shall be like that. ²⁵So there will be eight frames and sixteen silver bases—two under each frame.

²⁶“Also make crossbars of acacia wood: five for the frames on one side of the tabernacle, ²⁷five for those on the other side, and five for the frames on the west, at the far end of the tabernacle. ²⁸The center crossbar is to extend from end to end at the middle of the frames. ²⁹Overlay the frames with gold and make gold rings to hold the crossbars. Also overlay the crossbars with gold.

³⁰“Set up the tabernacle^(AZ) according to the plan^(BA) shown you on the mountain.

³¹“Make a curtain^(BB) of blue, purple and scarlet yarn and finely twisted linen, with cherubim^(BC) woven into it by a skilled worker. ³²Hang it with gold hooks on four posts of acacia wood overlaid with gold and standing on four silver bases.^(BD) ³³Hang the curtain from the clasps and place the ark of the covenant law behind the curtain.^(BE) The curtain will separate the Holy Place from the Most Holy Place.^(BF) ³⁴Put the atonement cover^(BG) on the ark of the covenant law in the Most Holy Place. ³⁵Place the table^(BH) outside the curtain on the north side of the tabernacle and put the lampstand^(BI) opposite it on the south side.

³⁶“For the entrance to the tent make a curtain^(BJ) of blue, purple and scarlet yarn and finely twisted linen—the work of an embroiderer.^(BK) ³⁷Make gold hooks for this curtain and five posts of acacia wood overlaid with gold. And cast five bronze bases for them.

The Altar of Burnt Offering^(BL)

27 “Build an altar^(BM) of acacia wood, three cubits^[l] high; it is to be square, five cubits long and five cubits wide.^[m] ²Make a horn^(BN) at each of the four corners, so that the horns and the altar are of one piece, and overlay the altar with bronze. ³Make all its utensils of bronze—its pots to remove the ashes, and its shovels, sprinkling bowls,^(BO) meat forks and firepans.^(BP) ⁴Make a grating for it, a bronze network, and make a bronze ring at each of the four corners of the network. ⁵Put it under the ledge of the altar so that it is halfway up the altar. ⁶Make poles of acacia wood for the altar and overlay them with bronze.^(BQ) ⁷The poles are to be inserted into the rings so they will be on two sides of the altar when it is carried.^(BR) ⁸Make the altar hollow, out of boards. It is to be made just as you were shown^(BS) on the mountain.

The Courtyard^(BT)

⁹“Make a courtyard^(BU) for the tabernacle. The south side shall be a hundred cubits^[n] long and is to have curtains of finely twisted linen, ¹⁰with twenty posts and twenty bronze bases and with silver hooks and bands on the posts. ¹¹The north side shall also be a hundred cubits long and is to have curtains, with twenty posts and twenty bronze bases and with silver hooks and bands on the posts.

¹²“The west end of the courtyard shall be fifty cubits^[o] wide and have curtains, with ten posts and ten bases. ¹³On the east end, toward the sunrise, the courtyard shall also be fifty cubits wide. ¹⁴Curtains fifteen cubits^[p] long are to be on one side of the entrance, with three posts and three bases, ¹⁵and curtains fifteen cubits long are to be on the other side, with three posts and three bases.

¹⁶“For the entrance to the courtyard, provide a curtain^(BV) twenty cubits^[q] long, of blue, purple and scarlet yarn and finely twisted linen—the work of an embroiderer^(BW)—with four posts and four bases. ¹⁷All the posts around the courtyard are to have silver bands and hooks, and bronze bases. ¹⁸The courtyard shall be a hundred cubits long and fifty cubits wide,^[r] with curtains of finely twisted linen five cubits^[s] high, and with bronze bases. ¹⁹All the other articles used in the service of the tabernacle, whatever their function, including all the tent pegs for it and those for the courtyard, are to be of bronze.

Oil for the Lampstand^(BX)

²⁰“Command the Israelites to bring you clear oil^(BY) of pressed olives for the light so that the lamps may be kept burning. ²¹In the tent of meeting,^(BZ) outside the curtain that shields the ark of the covenant law,^(CA) Aaron and his sons are to keep the lamps^(CB) burning before the Lord from evening till morning. This is to be a lasting ordinance^(CC) among the Israelites for the generations to come.

The Priestly Garments

28 “Have Aaron^(CD) your brother brought to you from among the Israelites, along with his sons Nadab and Abihu,^(CE) Eleazar and Ithamar,^(CF) so they may serve me as priests.^(CG) ²Make sacred garments^(CH) for your brother Aaron to give him dignity and honor.^(CI) ³Tell all the skilled workers^(CJ) to whom I have given wisdom^(CK) in such matters that they are to make garments for Aaron, for his consecration, so he may serve me as priest. ⁴These are the garments they are to make: a breastpiece,^(CL) an ephod,^(CM) a robe,^(CN) a woven tunic,^(CO) a turban^(CP) and a sash. They are to make these sacred garments for your brother Aaron and his sons, so they may serve me as priests. ⁵Have them use gold, and blue, purple and scarlet yarn, and fine linen.^(CQ)

The Ephod^(CR)

⁶“Make the ephod^(CS) of gold, and of blue, purple and scarlet yarn, and of finely twisted linen—the work of skilled hands. ⁷It is to have two shoulder pieces attached to two of its corners, so it can be fastened. ⁸Its skillfully woven waistband^(CT) is to be like it—of one piece with the ephod and made with gold, and with blue, purple and scarlet yarn, and with finely twisted linen.

⁹“Take two onyx stones and engrave^(CU) on them the names of the sons of Israel ¹⁰in the order of their birth—six names on one stone and the remaining six on the other. ¹¹Engrave the names of the sons of Israel on the two stones the way a gem cutter engraves a seal. Then mount the stones in gold filigree settings ¹²and fasten them on the shoulder pieces of the ephod as memorial stones for the sons of Israel. Aaron is to bear the names on his shoulders^(CV) as a memorial^(CW) before the Lord. ¹³Make gold filigree settings ¹⁴and two braided chains of pure gold, like a rope, and attach the chains to the settings.

The Breastpiece^(CX)

¹⁵“Fashion a breastpiece^(CY) for making decisions—the work of skilled hands. Make it like the ephod: of gold, and of blue, purple and scarlet yarn, and of finely twisted linen. ¹⁶It is to be square—a span^[t] long and a span wide—and folded double. ¹⁷Then mount four rows of precious stones^(CZ) on it. The first row shall be carnelian, chrysolite^(DA) and beryl; ¹⁸the second row shall be turquoise, lapis lazuli and emerald; ¹⁹the third row shall be jacinth, agate and amethyst; ²⁰the fourth row shall be topaz, onyx and jasper.^[u] Mount them in gold filigree settings. ²¹There are to be twelve stones, one for each of the names of the sons of Israel,^(DB) each engraved like a seal with the name of one of the twelve tribes.^(DC)

²²“For the breastpiece make braided chains of pure gold, like a rope. ²³Make two gold rings for it and fasten them to two corners of the breastpiece. ²⁴Fasten the two gold chains to the rings at the corners of the breastpiece, ²⁵and the other ends of the chains to the two settings, attaching them to the shoulder pieces of the ephod at the front. ²⁶Make two gold rings and attach them to the other two corners of the breastpiece on the inside edge next to the ephod. ²⁷Make two more gold rings and attach them to the bottom of the shoulder pieces on the front of the ephod, close to the seam just above the waistband of the ephod. ²⁸The rings of the breastpiece are to be tied to the rings of the ephod with blue cord, connecting it to the waistband, so that the breastpiece will not swing out from the ephod.

²⁹“Whenever Aaron enters the Holy Place,^(DD) he will bear the names of the sons of Israel over his heart on the breastpiece of decision as a continuing memorial before the Lord. ³⁰Also put the Urim and the Thummim^(DE) in the breastpiece, so they may be over Aaron’s heart whenever he enters the presence of the Lord. Thus Aaron will always bear the means of making decisions for the Israelites over his heart before the Lord.

Other Priestly Garments^(DF)

³¹“Make the robe of the ephod entirely of blue cloth, ³²with an opening for the head in its center. There shall be a woven edge like a collar^[v] around this opening, so that it will not tear. ³³Make pomegranates^(DG) of blue, purple and scarlet yarn around the hem of the robe, with gold bells between them. ³⁴The gold bells and the pomegranates are to alternate around the hem of the robe. ³⁵Aaron must wear it when he ministers. The sound of the bells will be heard when he enters the Holy Place before the Lord and when he comes out, so that he will not die.

³⁶“Make a plate^(DH) of pure gold and engrave on it as on a seal: holy to the Lord.^(DI) ³⁷Fasten a blue cord to it to attach it to the turban; it is to be on the front of the turban. ³⁸It will be on Aaron’s forehead, and he will bear the guilt^(DJ) involved in the sacred gifts the Israelites consecrate, whatever their gifts may be. It will be on Aaron’s forehead continually so that they will be acceptable^(DK) to the Lord.

³⁹“Weave the tunic^(DL) of fine linen and make the turban^(DM) of fine linen. The sash is to be the work of an embroiderer. ⁴⁰Make tunics, sashes and caps for Aaron’s sons^(DN) to give them dignity and honor.^(DO) ⁴¹After you put these clothes^(DP) on your brother Aaron and his sons, anoint^(DQ) and ordain them. Consecrate them so they may serve me as priests.^(DR)

⁴²“Make linen undergarments^(DS) as a covering for the body, reaching from the waist to the thigh. ⁴³Aaron and his sons must wear them whenever they enter the tent of meeting^(DT) or approach the altar to minister in the Holy Place,^(DU) so that they will not incur guilt and die.^(DV)

“This is to be a lasting ordinance^(DW) for Aaron and his descendants.

Consecration of the Priests^(DX)

29 “This is what you are to do to consecrate^(DY) them, so they may serve me as priests: Take a young bull and two rams without defect.^(DZ) ²And from the finest wheat flour make round loaves without yeast, thick loaves without yeast and with olive oil mixed in, and thin loaves without yeast and brushed with olive oil.^(EA) ³Put them in a basket and present them along with the bull and the two rams.^(EB) ⁴Then bring Aaron and his sons to the entrance to the tent of meeting and wash them with water.^(EC) ⁵Take the garments^(ED) and dress Aaron with the tunic, the robe of the ephod, the ephod itself and the breastpiece. Fasten the ephod on him by its skillfully woven waistband.^(EE) ⁶Put the turban^(EF) on his head and attach the sacred emblem^(EG) to the turban. ⁷Take the anointing oil^(EH) and anoint him by pouring it on his head. ⁸Bring his sons and dress them in tunics^(EI) ⁹and fasten caps on them. Then tie sashes on Aaron and his sons.^[w]^(EJ) The priesthood is theirs by a lasting ordinance.^(EK)

“Then you shall ordain Aaron and his sons.

¹⁰“Bring the bull to the front of the tent of meeting, and Aaron and his sons shall lay their hands on its head.^(EL) ¹¹Slaughter it in the Lord’s presence^(EM) at the entrance to the tent of meeting. ¹²Take some of the bull’s blood and put it on the horns^(EN) of the altar with your finger, and pour out the rest of it at the base of the altar.^(EO) ¹³Then take all the fat^(EP) on the internal organs,^(EQ) the long lobe of the liver, and both kidneys with the fat on them, and burn them on the altar. ¹⁴But burn the bull’s flesh and its hide and its intestines^(ER) outside the camp.^(ES) It is a sin offering.^[x]

¹⁵“Take one of the rams,^(ET) and Aaron and his sons shall lay their hands on its head.^(EU) ¹⁶Slaughter it and take the blood and splash it against the sides of the altar. ¹⁷Cut the ram into pieces and wash^(EV) the internal organs and the legs, putting them with the head and the other pieces. ¹⁸Then burn the entire ram on the altar. It is a burnt offering to the Lord, a pleasing aroma,^(EW) a food offering presented to the Lord.

¹⁹“Take the other ram,^(EX) and Aaron and his sons shall lay their hands on its head.^(EY) ²⁰Slaughter it, take some of its blood and put it on the lobes of the right ears of Aaron and his sons, on the thumbs of their right hands, and on the big toes of their right feet.^(EZ) Then splash blood against the sides of the altar.^(FA) ²¹And take some blood^(FB) from the altar and some of the anointing oil^(FC) and sprinkle it on Aaron and his garments and on his sons and their garments. Then he and his sons and their garments will be consecrated.^(FD)

²²“Take from this ram the fat,^(FE) the fat tail, the fat on the internal organs, the long lobe of the liver, both kidneys with the fat on them, and the right thigh. (This is the ram for the ordination.) ²³From the basket of bread made without yeast, which is before the Lord, take one round loaf, one thick loaf with olive oil mixed in, and one thin loaf. ²⁴Put all these in the hands of Aaron and his sons and have them wave them before the Lord as a wave offering.^(FF) ²⁵Then take them from their hands and burn them on the altar along with the burnt offering for a pleasing aroma to the Lord, a food offering presented to the Lord.^(FG) ²⁶After you take the breast of the ram for Aaron’s ordination, wave it before the Lord as a wave offering, and it will be your share.^(FH)

²⁷“Consecrate those parts of the ordination ram that belong to Aaron and his sons:^(FI) the breast that was waved and the thigh that was presented. ²⁸This is always to be the perpetual share from the Israelites for Aaron and his sons. It is the contribution the Israelites are to make to the Lord from their fellowship offerings.^(FJ)

²⁹“Aaron’s sacred garments^(FK) will belong to his descendants so that they can be anointed and ordained in them.^(FL) ³⁰The son^(FM) who succeeds him as priest and comes to the tent of meeting to minister in the Holy Place is to wear them seven days.

³¹“Take the ram^(FN) for the ordination and cook the meat in a sacred place.^(FO) ³²At the entrance to the tent of meeting, Aaron and his sons are to eat the meat of the ram and the bread^(FP) that is in the basket. ³³They are to eat these offerings by which atonement was made for their ordination and consecration. But no one else may eat^(FQ) them, because they are sacred. ³⁴And if any of the meat of the ordination ram or any bread is left over till morning,^(FR) burn it up. It must not be eaten, because it is sacred.

³⁵“Do for Aaron and his sons everything I have commanded you, taking seven days to ordain them. ³⁶Sacrifice a bull each day^(FS) as a sin offering to make atonement^(FT). Purify the altar by making atonement for it, and anoint it to consecrate^(FU) it. ³⁷For seven days make atonement for the altar and consecrate it. Then the altar will be most holy, and whatever touches it will be holy.^(FV)

³⁸“This is what you are to offer on the altar regularly each day:^(FW) two lambs a year old. ³⁹Offer one in the morning and the other at twilight.^(FX) ⁴⁰With the first lamb offer a tenth of an ephah^[y] of the finest flour mixed with a quarter of a hin^[z] of oil^(FY) from pressed olives, and a quarter of a hin of wine as a drink offering.^(FZ) ⁴¹Sacrifice the other lamb at twilight^(GA) with the same grain offering^(GB) and its drink offering as in the morning—a pleasing aroma, a food offering presented to the Lord.

⁴²“For the generations to come^(GC) this burnt offering is to be made regularly^(GD) at the entrance to the tent of meeting,^(GE) before the Lord. There I will meet you and speak to you;^(GF) ⁴³there also I will meet with the Israelites, and the place will be consecrated by my glory.^(GG)

⁴⁴“So I will consecrate the tent of meeting and the altar and will consecrate Aaron and his sons to serve me as priests.^(GH) ⁴⁵Then I will dwell^(GI) among the Israelites and be their God.^(GJ) ⁴⁶They will know that I am the Lord their God, who brought them out of Egypt^(GK) so that I might dwell among them. I am the Lord their God.^(GL)

The Altar of Incense^(GM)

30 “Make an altar^(GN) of acacia wood for burning incense.^(GO) ²It is to be square, a cubit long and a cubit wide, and two cubits high^[aa]—its horns^(GP) of one piece with it. ³Overlay the top and all the sides and the horns with pure gold, and make a gold molding around it.^(GQ) ⁴Make two gold rings^(GR) for the altar below the molding—two on each of the opposite sides—to hold the poles used to carry it. ⁵Make the poles of acacia wood and overlay them with gold.^(GS) ⁶Put the altar in front of the curtain that shields the ark of the covenant law—before the atonement cover^(GT) that is over the tablets of the covenant law—where I will meet with you.

⁷“Aaron must burn fragrant incense^(GU) on the altar every morning when he tends the lamps. ⁸He must burn incense again when he lights the lamps at twilight so incense will burn regularly before the Lord for the generations to come.^(GV) ⁹Do not offer on this altar any other incense^(GW) or any burnt offering or grain offering, and do not pour a drink offering on it. ¹⁰Once a year^(GX) Aaron shall make atonement^(GY) on its horns. This annual atonement must be made with the blood of the atoning sin offering^[ab]^(GZ) for the generations to come.^(HA) It is most holy to the Lord.”

Atonement Money

¹¹Then the Lord said to Moses, ¹²“When you take a census^(HB) of the Israelites to count them, each one must pay the Lord a ransom^(HC) for his life at the time he is counted. Then no plague^(HD) will come on them when you number them. ¹³Each one who crosses over to those already counted is to give a half shekel,^[ac] according to the sanctuary shekel,^(HE) which weighs twenty gerahs. This half shekel is an offering to the Lord. ¹⁴All who cross over, those twenty years old or more,^(HF) are to give an offering to the Lord. ¹⁵The rich are not to give more than a half shekel and the poor are not to give less^(HG) when you make the offering to the Lord to atone for your lives. ¹⁶Receive the atonement^(HH) money from the Israelites and use it for the service of the tent of meeting.^(HI) It will be a memorial^(HJ) for the Israelites before the Lord, making atonement for your lives.”

Basin for Washing

¹⁷Then the Lord said to Moses, ¹⁸“Make a bronze basin,^(HK) with its bronze stand, for washing. Place it between the tent of meeting and the altar, and put water in it. ¹⁹Aaron and his sons are to wash their hands and feet^(HL) with water^(HM) from it. ²⁰Whenever they enter the tent of meeting, they shall wash with water so that they will not die.^(HN) Also, when they approach the altar to minister by presenting a food offering to the Lord, ²¹they shall wash their hands and feet so that they will not die. This is to be a lasting ordinance^(HO) for Aaron and his descendants for the generations to come.”^(HP)

Anointing Oil

31 Then the Lord said to Moses, ²“See, I have chosen Bezalel^(IP) son of Uri, the son of Hur,^(IQ) of the tribe of Judah, ³and I have filled him with the Spirit of God, with wisdom, with understanding, with knowledge^(IR) and with all kinds of skills^(IS)— ⁴to make artistic designs for work in gold, silver and bronze, ⁵to cut and set stones, to work in wood, and to engage in all kinds of crafts. ⁶Moreover, I have appointed Oholiab^(IT) son of Ahisamak, of the tribe of Dan,^(IU) to help him. The Sabbath

¹²Then the Lord said to Moses, ¹³“Say to the Israelites, ‘You must observe my Sabbaths.^(JI) This will be a sign^(JJ) between me and you for the generations to come,^(JK) so you may know that I am the Lord, who makes you holy.^(JL)

¹⁴“‘Observe the Sabbath, because it is holy to you. Anyone who desecrates it is to be put to death;^(JM) those who do any work on that day must be cut off from their people. ¹⁵For six days work^(JN) is to be done, but the seventh day is a day of sabbath rest,^(JO) holy to the Lord. Whoever does any work on the Sabbath day is to be put to death. ¹⁶The Israelites are to observe the Sabbath,^(JP) celebrating it for the generations to come as a lasting covenant. ¹⁷It will be a sign^(JQ) between me and the Israelites forever, for in six days the Lord made the heavens and the earth, and on the seventh day he rested and was refreshed.^(JR)’”^(JS)

⁶And thou shalt put the mitre upon his head, and put the holy crown upon the mitre.

⁷Then shalt thou take the anointing oil, and pour it upon his head, and anoint him.

⁸And thou shalt bring his sons, and put coats upon them.

⁹And thou shalt gird them with girdles, Aaron and his sons, and put the bonnets on them: and the priest's office shall be theirs for a perpetual statute: and thou shalt consecrate Aaron and his sons.

¹⁰And thou shalt cause a bullock to be brought before the tabernacle of the congregation: and Aaron and his sons shall put their hands upon the head of the bullock.

¹¹And thou shalt kill the bullock before the Lord, by the door of the tabernacle of the congregation.

¹²And thou shalt take of the blood of the bullock, and put it upon the horns of the altar with thy finger, and pour all the blood beside the bottom of the altar.

¹³And thou shalt take all the fat that covereth the inwards, and the caul that is above the liver, and the two kidneys, and the fat that is upon them, and burn them upon the altar.

¹⁴But the flesh of the bullock, and his skin, and his dung, shalt thou burn with fire without the camp: it is a sin offering.

¹⁵Thou shalt also take one ram; and Aaron and his sons shall put their hands upon the head of the ram.

¹⁶And thou shalt slay the ram, and thou shalt take his blood, and sprinkle it round about upon the altar.

¹⁷And thou shalt cut the ram in pieces, and wash the inwards of him, and his legs, and put them unto his pieces, and unto his head.

³⁰And that son that is priest in his stead shall put them on seven days, when he cometh into the tabernacle of the congregation to minister in the holy place.

³²And Aaron and his sons shall eat the flesh of the ram, and the bread that is in the basket by the door of the tabernacle of the congregation.

³³And they shall eat those things wherewith the atonement was made, to consecrate and to sanctify them: but a stranger shall not eat thereof, because they are holy.

³⁴And if ought of the flesh of the consecrations, or of the bread, remain unto the morning, then thou shalt burn the remainder with fire: it shall not be eaten, because it is holy.

³⁵And thus shalt thou do unto Aaron, and to his sons, according to all things which I have commanded thee: seven days shalt thou consecrate them.

³⁶And thou shalt offer every day a bullock for a sin offering for atonement: and thou shalt cleanse the altar, when thou hast made an atonement for it, and thou shalt anoint it, to sanctify it.

³⁷Seven days thou shalt make an atonement for the altar, and sanctify it; and it shall be an altar most holy: whatsoever toucheth the altar shall be holy.

³⁸Now this is that which thou shalt offer upon the altar; two lambs of the first year day by day continually.

³⁹The one lamb thou shalt offer in the morning; and the other lamb thou shalt offer at even:

⁴³And there I will meet with the children of Israel, and the tabernacle shall be sanctified by my glory.

²A cubit shall be the length thereof, and a cubit the breadth thereof; foursquare shall it be: and two cubits shall be the height thereof: the horns thereof shall be of the same.

³And thou shalt overlay it with pure gold, the top thereof, and the sides thereof round about, and the horns thereof; and thou shalt make unto it a crown of gold round about.

⁴And two golden rings shalt thou make to it under the crown of it, by the two corners thereof, upon the two sides of it shalt thou make it; and they shall be for places for the staves to bear it withal.

⁵And thou shalt make the staves of shittim wood, and overlay them with gold.

⁶And thou shalt put it before the vail that is by the ark of the testimony, before the mercy seat that is over the testimony, where I will meet with thee.

⁷And Aaron shall burn thereon sweet incense every morning: when he dresseth the lamps, he shall burn incense upon it.

¹²When thou takest the sum of the children of Israel after their number, then shall they give every man a ransom for his soul unto the Lord, when thou numberest them; that there be no plague among them, when thou numberest them.

¹³This they shall give, every one that passeth among them that are numbered, half a shekel after the shekel of the sanctuary: (a shekel is twenty gerahs:) an half shekel shall be the offering of the Lord.

¹⁴Every one that passeth among them that are numbered, from twenty years old and above, shall give an offering unto the Lord.

¹⁵The rich shall not give more, and the poor shall not give less than half a shekel, when they give an offering unto the Lord, to make an atonement for your souls.

Offerings for the Sanctuary^(A)

25 Then the Lord spoke to Moses, saying: ²“Speak to the children of Israel, that they bring Me an ^[a]offering. ^(B)From everyone who gives it willingly with his heart you shall take My offering. ³And this is the offering which you shall take from them: gold, silver, and bronze; ⁴blue, purple, and scarlet thread, fine linen, and goats’ hair; ⁵ram skins dyed red, ^[b]badger skins, and acacia wood; ⁶^(C)oil for the light, and ^(D)spices for the anointing oil and for the sweet incense; ⁷onyx stones, and stones to be set in the ^(E)ephod and in the breastplate. ⁸And let them make Me a ^(F)sanctuary,^[c] that ^(G)I may dwell among them. ⁹According to all that I show you, that is, the pattern of the tabernacle and the pattern of all its furnishings, just so you shall make it.

The Tabernacle^(AD)

26 “Moreover ^(AE)you shall make the tabernacle with ten curtains of fine woven linen and blue, purple, and scarlet thread; with artistic designs of cherubim you shall weave them. ²The length of each curtain shall be twenty-eight cubits, and the width of each curtain four cubits. And every one of the curtains shall have ^[d]the same measurements. ³Five curtains shall be coupled to one another, and the other five curtains shall be coupled to one another. ⁴And you shall make loops of blue yarn on the edge of the curtain on the selvedge of one set, and likewise you shall do on the outer edge of the other curtain of the second set. ⁵Fifty loops you shall make in the one curtain, and fifty loops you shall make on the edge of the curtain that is on the end of the second set, that the loops may be clasped to one another. ⁶And you shall make fifty clasps of gold, and couple the curtains together with the clasps, so that it may be one tabernacle.

The Court of the Tabernacle^(AV)

⁹^(AW)“You shall also make the court of the tabernacle. For the south side there shall be hangings for the court made of fine woven linen, one hundred cubits long for one side. ¹⁰And its twenty pillars and their twenty sockets shall be bronze. The hooks of the pillars and their bands shall be silver. ¹¹Likewise along the length of the north side there shall be hangings one hundred cubits long, with its twenty pillars and their twenty sockets of bronze, and the hooks of the pillars and their bands of silver.

¹²“And along the width of the court on the west side shall be hangings of fifty cubits, with their ten pillars and their ten sockets. ¹³The width of the court on the east side shall be fifty cubits. ¹⁴The hangings on one side of the gate shall be fifteen cubits, with their three pillars and their three sockets. ¹⁵And on the other side shall be hangings of fifteen cubits, with their three pillars and their three sockets.

¹⁶“For the gate of the court there shall be a screen twenty cubits long, woven of blue, purple, and scarlet thread, and fine woven linen, made by a weaver. The Care of the Lampstand^(AY)

Garments for the Priesthood^(BD)

28 “Now take ^(BE)Aaron your brother, and his sons with him, from among the children of Israel, that he may minister to Me as ^(BF)priest, Aaron and Aaron’s sons: ^(BG)Nadab, Abihu, ^(BH)Eleazar, and Ithamar. ²And ^(BI)you shall make ^[h]holy garments for Aaron your brother, for glory and for beauty. ³So ^(BJ)you shall speak to all who are gifted artisans, ^(BK)whom I have filled with the spirit of wisdom, that they may make Aaron’s garments, to consecrate him, that he may minister to Me as priest. ⁴And these are the garments which they shall make: ^(BL)a breastplate, ^(BM)an ^[i]ephod, ^(BN)a robe, ^(BO)a skillfully woven tunic, a turban, and ^(BP)a sash. ⁵“They shall take the gold, blue, purple, and scarlet thread, and the fine linen, ⁶^(BQ)and they shall make the ephod of gold, blue, purple, and scarlet thread, and fine woven linen, artistically worked. ⁷It shall have two shoulder straps joined at its two edges, and so it shall be joined together. ⁸And the ^[j]intricately woven band of the ephod, which is on it, shall be of the same workmanship, made of gold, blue, purple, and scarlet thread, and fine woven linen.

⁹“Then you shall take two onyx ^(BR)stones and engrave on them the names of the sons of Israel: ¹⁰six of their names on one stone and six names on the other stone, in order of their ^(BS)birth. ¹¹With the work of an ^(BT)engraver in stone, like the engravings of a signet, you shall engrave the two stones with the names of the sons of Israel. You shall set them in settings of gold. ¹²And you shall put the two stones on the shoulders of the ephod as memorial stones for the sons of Israel. So ^(BU)Aaron shall bear their names before the Lord on his two shoulders ^(BV)as a memorial. ¹³You shall also make settings of gold, ¹⁴and you shall make two chains of pure gold like braided cords, and fasten the braided chains to the settings.

The Breastplate^(BW)

¹⁵^(BX)“You shall make the breastplate of judgment. Artistically woven according to the workmanship of the ephod you shall make it: of gold, blue, purple, and scarlet thread, and fine woven linen, you shall make it. ¹⁶It shall be doubled into a square: a span shall be its length, and a span shall be its width. ¹⁷^(BY)And you shall put settings of stones in it, four rows of stones: The first row shall be a ^[k]sardius, a topaz, and an emerald; this shall be the first row; ¹⁸the second row shall be a turquoise, a sapphire, and a diamond; ¹⁹the third row, a ^[l]jacinth, an agate, and an amethyst; ²⁰and the fourth row, a ^[m]beryl, an ^[n]onyx, and a jasper. They shall be set in gold settings. ²¹And the stones shall have the names of the sons of Israel, twelve according to their names, like the engravings of a signet, each one with its own name; they shall be according to the twelve tribes.

²²“You shall make chains for the breastplate at the end, like braided cords of pure gold. ²³And you shall make two rings of gold for the breastplate, and put the two rings on the two ends of the breastplate. ²⁴Then you shall put the two braided chains of gold in the two rings which are on the ends of the breastplate; ²⁵and the other two ends of the two braided chains you shall fasten to the two settings, and put them on the shoulder straps of the ephod in the front.

²⁶“You shall make two rings of gold, and put them on the two ends of the breastplate, on the edge of it, which is on the inner side of the ephod. ²⁷And two other rings of gold you shall make, and put them on the two shoulder straps, underneath the ephod toward its front, right at the seam above the ^[o]intricately woven band of the ephod. ²⁸They shall bind the breastplate by means of its rings to the rings of the ephod, using a blue cord, so that it is above the intricately woven band of the ephod, and so that the breastplate does not come loose from the ephod.

²⁹“So Aaron shall ^(BZ)bear the names of the sons of Israel on the breastplate of judgment over his heart, when he goes into the holy place, as a memorial before the Lord continually. ³⁰And ^(CA)you shall put in the breastplate of judgment the ^[p]Urim and the Thummim, and they shall be over Aaron’s heart when he goes in before the Lord. So Aaron shall bear the judgment of the children of Israel over his heart before the Lord continually.

Other Priestly Garments^(CB)

³¹^(CC)“You shall make the robe of the ephod all of blue. ³²There shall be an opening for his head in the middle of it; it shall have a woven binding all around its opening, like the opening in a coat of mail, so that it does not tear. ³³And upon its hem you shall make pomegranates of blue, purple, and scarlet, all around its hem, and bells of gold between them all around: ³⁴a golden bell and a pomegranate, a golden bell and a pomegranate, upon the hem of the robe all around. ³⁵And it shall be upon Aaron when he ministers, and its sound will be heard when he goes into the holy place before the Lord and when he comes out, that he may not die.

³⁶^(CD)“You shall also make a plate of pure gold and engrave on it, like the engraving of a signet:

HOLINESS TO THE LORD.

³⁷And you shall put it on a blue cord, that it may be on the turban; it shall be on the front of the turban. ³⁸So it shall be on Aaron’s forehead, that Aaron may ^(CE)bear the iniquity of the holy things which the children of Israel hallow in all their ^[q]holy gifts; and it shall always be on his forehead, that they may be ^(CF)accepted before the Lord.

³⁹“You shall ^(CG)skillfully weave the tunic of fine linen thread, you shall make the turban of fine linen, and you shall make the sash of woven work.

⁴⁰^(CH)“For Aaron’s sons you shall make tunics, and you shall make sashes for them. And you shall make ^[r]hats for them, for glory and ^(CI)beauty. ⁴¹So you shall put them on Aaron your brother and on his sons with him. You shall ^(CJ)anoint them, ^(CK)consecrate them, and ^[s]sanctify them, that they may minister to Me as priests. ⁴²And you shall make ^(CL)for them linen trousers to cover their ^[t]nakedness; they shall ^[u]reach from the waist to the thighs. ⁴³They shall be on Aaron and on his sons when they come into the tabernacle of meeting, or when they come near ^(CM)the altar to minister in the holy place, that they ^(CN)do not incur ^[v]iniquity and die. ^(CO)It shall be a statute forever to him and his descendants after him.

Aaron and His Sons Consecrated^(CP)

29 “And this is what you shall do to them to hallow them for ministering to Me as priests: ^(CQ)Take one young bull and two rams without blemish, ²and ^(CR)unleavened bread, unleavened cakes mixed with oil, and unleavened wafers anointed with oil (you shall make them of wheat flour). ³You shall put them in one basket and bring them in the basket, with the bull and the two rams.

⁴“And Aaron and his sons you shall bring to the door of the tabernacle of meeting, ^(CS)and you shall wash them with water. ⁵^(CT)Then you shall take the garments, put the tunic on Aaron, and the robe of the ephod, the ephod, and the breastplate, and gird him with ^(CU)the intricately woven band of the ephod. ⁶^(CV)You shall put the turban on his head, and put the holy crown on the turban. ⁷And you shall take the anointing ^(CW)oil, pour it on his head, and anoint him. ⁸Then ^(CX)you shall bring his sons and put tunics on them. ⁹And you shall gird them with sashes, Aaron and his sons, and put the hats on them. ^(CY)The priesthood shall be theirs for a perpetual statute. ¹⁰“You shall also have the bull brought before the tabernacle of meeting, and ^(DA)Aaron and his sons shall put their hands on the head of the bull. ¹¹Then you shall kill the bull before the Lord, by the door of the tabernacle of meeting. ¹²You shall take some of the blood of the bull and put it on ^(DB)the horns of the altar with your finger, and ^(DC)pour all the blood beside the base of the altar. ¹³And ^(DD)you shall take all the fat that covers the entrails, the fatty lobe attached to the liver, and the two kidneys and the fat that is on them, and burn them on the altar. ¹⁴But ^(DE)the flesh of the bull, with its skin and its offal, you shall burn with fire outside the camp. It is a sin offering.

¹⁵^(DF)“You shall also take one ram, and Aaron and his sons shall ^(DG)put their hands on the head of the ram; ¹⁶and you shall kill the ram, and you shall take its blood and ^(DH)sprinkle it all around on the altar. ¹⁷Then you shall cut the ram in pieces, wash its entrails and its legs, and put them with its pieces and with its head. ¹⁸And you shall burn the whole ram on the altar. It is a ^(DI)burnt offering to the Lord; it is a sweet aroma, an offering made by fire to the Lord.

¹⁹^(DJ)“You shall also take the other ram, and Aaron and his sons shall put their hands on the head of the ram. ²⁰Then you shall kill the ram, and take some of its blood and put it on the tip of the right ear of Aaron and on the tip of the right ear of his sons, on the thumb of their right hand and on the big toe of their right foot, and sprinkle the blood all around on the altar. ²¹And you shall take some of the blood that is on the altar, and some of ^(DK)the anointing oil, and sprinkle it on Aaron and on his garments, on his sons and on the garments of his sons with him; and ^(DL)he and his garments shall be hallowed, and his sons and his sons’ garments with him.

²⁶“Then you shall take ^(DP)the breast of the ram of Aaron’s consecration and wave it as a wave offering before the Lord; and it shall be your portion. ²⁷And from the ram of the consecration you shall consecrate ^(DQ)the breast of the wave offering which is waved, and the thigh of the heave offering which is raised, of that which is for Aaron and of that which is for his sons. ²⁸It shall be from the children of Israel for Aaron and his sons ^(DR)by a statute forever. For it is a heave offering; ^(DS)it shall be a heave offering from the children of Israel from the sacrifices of their peace offerings, that is, their heave offering to the Lord.

²⁹“And the ^(DT)holy garments of Aaron ^(DU)shall be his sons’ after him, ^(DV)to be anointed in them and to be consecrated in them. ³⁰^(DW)That son who becomes priest in his place shall put them on for ^(DX)seven days, when he enters the tabernacle of meeting to minister in the ^[w]holy place.

³¹“And you shall take the ram of the consecration and ^(DY)boil its flesh in the holy place. ³²Then Aaron and his sons shall eat the flesh of the ram, and the ^(DZ)bread that is in the basket, by the door of the tabernacle of meeting. ³³^(EA)They shall eat those things with which the atonement was made, to consecrate and to sanctify them; ^(EB)but an outsider shall not eat them, because they are holy. ³⁴And if any of the flesh of the consecration offerings, or of the bread, remains until the morning, then ^(EC)you shall burn the remainder with fire. It shall not be eaten, because it is holy.

³⁵“Thus you shall do to Aaron and his sons, according to all that I have commanded you. ^(ED)Seven days you shall consecrate them. ³⁶And you ^(EE)shall offer a bull every day as a sin offering for atonement. ^(EF)You shall cleanse the altar when you make atonement for it, and you shall anoint it to sanctify it. ³⁷Seven days you shall make atonement for the altar and sanctify it. And the altar shall be most holy. ^(EG)Whatever touches the altar must be holy.

The Daily Offerings^(EH)

³⁸“Now this is what you shall offer on the altar: ^(EI)two lambs of the first year, ^(EJ)day by day continually. ³⁹One lamb you shall offer ^(EK)in the morning, and the other lamb you shall offer ^[x]at twilight. ⁴⁰With the one lamb shall be one-tenth of an ephah of flour mixed with one-fourth of a hin of pressed oil, and one-fourth of a hin of wine as a drink offering. ⁴¹And the other lamb you shall ^(EL)offer ^[y]at twilight; and you shall offer with it the grain offering and the drink offering, as in the morning, for a sweet aroma, an offering made by fire to the Lord. ⁴²This shall be ^(EM)a continual burnt offering throughout your generations at the door of the tabernacle of meeting before the Lord, ^(EN)where I will meet you to speak with you. ⁴³And there I will meet with the children of Israel, and the tabernacle ^(EO)shall be sanctified by My glory. ⁴⁴So I will consecrate the tabernacle of meeting and the altar. I will also ^(EP)consecrate both Aaron and his sons to minister to Me as priests. ⁴⁵^(EQ)I will dwell among the children of Israel and will ^(ER)be their God. ⁴⁶And they shall know that ^(ES)I am the Lord their God, who ^(ET)brought them up out of the land of Egypt, that I may dwell among them. I am the Lord their God.

The Altar of Incense^(EU)

30 “You shall make ^(EV)an altar to burn incense on; you shall make it of acacia wood. ²A cubit shall be its length and a cubit its width—it shall be square—and two cubits shall be its height. Its horns shall be of one piece with it. ³And you shall overlay its top, its sides all around, and its horns with pure gold; and you shall make for it a ^[z]molding of gold all around. ⁴Two gold rings you shall make for it, under the molding on both its sides. You shall place them on its two sides, and they will be holders for the poles with which to bear it. ⁵You shall make the poles of acacia wood, and overlay them with gold. ⁶And you shall put it before the ^(EW)veil that is before the ark of the Testimony, before the ^(EX)mercy seat that is over the Testimony, where I will meet with you.

⁷“Aaron shall burn on it ^(EY)sweet incense every morning; when ^(EZ)he tends the lamps, he shall burn incense on it. ⁸And when Aaron lights the lamps ^[aa]at twilight, he shall burn incense on it, a perpetual incense before the Lord throughout your generations. ⁹You shall not offer ^(FA)strange incense on it, or a burnt offering, or a grain offering; nor shall you pour a drink offering on it. ¹⁰And ^(FB)Aaron shall make atonement upon its horns once a year with the blood of the sin offering of atonement; once a year he shall make atonement upon it throughout your generations. It is most holy to the Lord.”

The Ransom Money

¹¹Then the Lord spoke to Moses, saying: ¹²^(FC)“When you take the census of the children of Israel for their number, then every man shall give ^(FD)a^[ab] ransom for himself to the Lord, when you number them, that there may be no ^(FE)plague among them when you number them. ¹³^(FF)This is what everyone among those who are numbered shall give: half a shekel according to the shekel of the sanctuary ^(FG)(a shekel is twenty gerahs). ^(FH)The half-shekel shall be an offering to the Lord. ¹⁴Everyone included among those who are numbered, from twenty years old and above, shall give an ^[ac]offering to the Lord. ¹⁵The ^(FI)rich shall not give more and the poor shall not give less than half a shekel, when you give an offering to the Lord, to make atonement for yourselves. ¹⁶And you shall take the atonement money of the children of Israel, and ^(FJ)shall ^[ad]appoint it for the service of the tabernacle of meeting, that it may be ^(FK)a memorial for the children of Israel before the Lord, to make atonement for yourselves.”

The Bronze Laver

¹⁷Then the Lord spoke to Moses, saying: ¹⁸^(FL)“You shall also make a ^[ae]laver of bronze, with its base also of bronze, for washing. You shall ^(FM)put it between the tabernacle of meeting and the altar. And you shall put water in it, ¹⁹for Aaron and his sons ^(FN)shall wash their hands and their feet in water from it. ²⁰When they go into the tabernacle of meeting, or when they come near the altar to minister, to burn an offering made by fire to the Lord, they shall wash with water, lest they die. ²¹So they shall wash their hands and their feet, lest they die. And ^(FO)it shall be a ^[af]statute forever to them—to him and his descendants throughout their generations.”

The Holy Anointing Oil^(FP)

²²Moreover the Lord spoke to Moses, saying: ²³“Also take for yourself ^(FQ)quality spices—five hundred shekels of liquid ^(FR)myrrh, half as much sweet-smelling cinnamon (two hundred and fifty shekels), two hundred and fifty shekels of sweet-smelling ^(FS)cane, ²⁴five hundred shekels of ^(FT)cassia, according to the shekel of the sanctuary, and a ^(FU)hin of olive oil. ²⁵And you shall make from these a holy anointing oil, an ointment compounded according to the art of the perfumer. It shall be ^(FV)a holy anointing oil. ²⁶^(FW)With it you shall anoint the tabernacle of meeting and the ark of the Testimony; ²⁷the table and all its utensils, the lampstand and its utensils, and the altar of incense; ²⁸the altar of burnt offering with all its utensils, and the laver and its base. ²⁹You shall consecrate them, that they may be most holy; ^(FX)whatever touches them must be holy. ³⁰^(FY)And you shall anoint Aaron and his sons, and consecrate them, that they may minister to Me as priests.

³¹“And you shall speak to the children of Israel, saying: ‘This shall be a holy anointing oil to Me throughout your generations. ³²It shall not be poured on man’s flesh; nor shall you make any other like it, according to its composition. ^(FZ)It is holy, and it shall be holy to you. ³³^(GA)Whoever ^[ag]compounds any like it, or whoever puts any of it on an outsider, ^(GB)shall be ^[ah]cut off from his people.’ ”

The Incense^(GC)

³⁴And the Lord said to Moses: ^(GD)“Take sweet spices, stacte and onycha and galbanum, and pure frankincense with these sweet spices; there shall be equal amounts of each. ³⁵You shall make of these an incense, a compound ^(GE)according to the art of the perfumer, salted, pure, and holy. ³⁶And you shall beat some of it very fine, and put some of it before the Testimony in the tabernacle of meeting ^(GF)where I will meet with you. ^(GG)It shall be most holy to you. ³⁷But as for the incense which you shall make, ^(GH)you shall not make any for yourselves, according to its ^[ai]composition. Artisans for Building the Tabernacle^(GJ)

31 Then the Lord spoke to Moses, saying: ²^(GK)“See, I have called by name Bezalel the ^(GL)son of Uri, the son of Hur, of the tribe of Judah. ³And I have ^(GM)filled him with the Spirit of God, in wisdom, in understanding, in knowledge, and in all manner of workmanship, ⁴to design artistic works, to work in gold, in silver, in bronze, ⁵in cutting jewels for setting, in carving wood, and to work in all manner of workmanship.

⁶“And I, indeed I, have appointed with him ^(GN)Aholiab the son of Ahisamach, of the tribe of Dan; and I have put wisdom in the hearts of all the ^(GO)gifted artisans, that they may make all that I have commanded you: ⁷^(GP)the tabernacle of meeting, ^(GQ)the ark of the Testimony and ^(GR)the mercy seat that is on it, and all the furniture of the tabernacle— ⁸^(GS)the table and its utensils, ^(GT)the pure gold lampstand with all its utensils, the altar of incense, ⁹^(GU)the altar of burnt offering with all its utensils, and ^(GV)the laver and its base— ¹⁰^(GW)the ^[aj]garments of ministry, the holy garments for Aaron the priest and the garments of his sons, to minister as priests, ¹¹^(GX)and the anointing oil and ^(GY)sweet incense for the holy place. According to all that I have commanded you they shall do.”

The Sabbath Law

¹²And the Lord spoke to Moses, saying, ¹³“Speak also to the children of Israel, saying: ^(GZ)‘Surely My Sabbaths you shall keep, for it is a sign between Me and you throughout your generations, that you may know that I am the Lord who ^(HA)sanctifies^[ak] you. ¹⁴^(HB)You shall keep the Sabbath, therefore, for it is holy to you. Everyone who ^[al]profanes it shall surely be put to death; for ^(HC)whoever does any work on it, that person shall be cut off from among his people. ¹⁵Work shall be done for ^(HD)six days, but the ^(HE)seventh is the Sabbath of rest, holy to the Lord. ¹⁸And when He had made an end of speaking with him on Mount Sinai, He gave Moses ^(HH)two tablets of the Testimony, tablets of stone, written with the finger of God.

25 The Lord said to Moses, ²^(A)“Speak to the people of Israel, that they take for me a contribution. The Ark of the Covenant

The Golden Lampstand

³¹^(AC)“You shall make a lampstand of pure gold. The lampstand shall be made of hammered work: its base, its stem, its cups, its calyxes, and its flowers shall be of one piece with it. ³²And there shall be six branches going out of its sides, three branches of the lampstand out of one side of it and three branches of the lampstand out of the other side of it; ³³three cups made like almond blossoms, each with calyx and flower, on one branch, and three cups made like almond blossoms, each with calyx and flower, on the other branch—so for the six branches going out of the lampstand. ³⁴And on the lampstand itself there shall be four cups made like almond blossoms, with their calyxes and flowers, ³⁵and a calyx of one piece with it under each pair of the six branches going out from the lampstand. ³⁶Their calyxes and their branches shall be of one piece with it, the whole of it a single piece of hammered work of pure gold. ³⁷You shall make seven lamps for it. And the lamps ^(AD)shall be set up so as ^(AE)to give light on the space in front of it. ³⁸Its tongs and their trays shall be of pure gold. ³⁹It shall be made, with all these utensils, out of a talent^[e] of pure gold. ⁴⁰And ^(AF)see that you make them after the pattern for them, which is being shown you on the mountain.

The Tabernacle

26 “Moreover, ^(AG)you shall make the ^(AH)tabernacle with ten curtains of ^(AI)fine twined linen and blue and purple and scarlet yarns; you shall make them with cherubim ^(AJ)skillfully worked into them. ²The length of each curtain shall be twenty-eight cubits,^[f] and the breadth of each curtain four cubits; all the curtains shall be the same size. ³Five curtains shall be coupled to one another, and the other five curtains shall be coupled to one another. ⁴And you shall make loops of blue on the edge of the outermost curtain in the first set. Likewise you shall make loops on the edge of the outermost curtain in the second set. ⁵Fifty loops you shall make on the one curtain, and fifty loops you shall make on the edge of the curtain that is in the second set; the loops shall be opposite one another. ⁶And you shall make fifty clasps of gold, and couple the curtains one to the other with the clasps, so that the tabernacle may be a single whole.

⁷“You shall also make ^(AK)curtains of goats' hair for a tent over the tabernacle; eleven curtains shall you make. ⁸The length of each curtain shall be thirty cubits, and the breadth of each curtain four cubits. The eleven curtains shall be the same size. ⁹You shall couple five curtains by themselves, and six curtains by themselves, and the sixth curtain you shall double over at the front of the tent. ¹⁰You shall make fifty loops on the edge of the curtain that is outermost in one set, and fifty loops on the edge of the curtain that is outermost in the second set.

¹¹“You shall make fifty clasps of bronze, and put the clasps into the loops, and couple the tent together that it may be a single whole. ¹²And the part that remains of the curtains of the tent, the half curtain that remains, shall hang over the back of the tabernacle. ¹³And the extra that remains in the length of the curtains, the cubit on the one side, and the cubit on the other side, shall hang over the sides of the tabernacle, on this side and that side, to cover it. ¹⁴^(AL)And you shall make for the tent a covering of tanned ^(AM)rams' skins^[g] and a covering of goatskins on top.

¹⁵“You shall make upright frames for the tabernacle of acacia wood. ¹⁶Ten cubits shall be the length of a frame, and a cubit and a half the breadth of each frame. ¹⁷There shall be two tenons in each frame, for fitting together. So shall you do for all the frames of the tabernacle. ¹⁸You shall make the frames for the tabernacle: twenty frames for the south side; ¹⁹and forty bases of silver you shall make under the twenty frames, two bases under one frame for its two tenons, and two bases under the next frame for its two tenons; ²⁰and for the second side of the tabernacle, on the north side twenty frames, ²¹and their forty bases of silver, two bases under one frame, and two bases under the next frame. ²²And for the rear of the tabernacle westward you shall make six frames. ²³And you shall make two frames for corners of the tabernacle in the rear; ²⁴they shall be separate beneath, but joined at the top, at the first ring. Thus shall it be with both of them; they shall form the two corners. ²⁵And there shall be eight frames, with their bases of silver, sixteen bases; two bases under one frame, and two bases under another frame.

²⁶“You shall make bars of acacia wood, five for the frames of the one side of the tabernacle, ²⁷and five bars for the frames of the other side of the tabernacle, and five bars for the frames of the side of the tabernacle at the rear westward. ²⁸The middle bar, halfway up the frames, shall run from end to end. ²⁹You shall overlay the frames with gold and shall make their rings of gold for ^(AN)holders for the bars, and you shall overlay the bars with gold. ³⁰Then you shall erect the tabernacle ^(AO)according to the plan for it that you were shown on the mountain.

³¹^(AP)“And you shall make a veil of blue and purple and scarlet yarns and ^(AQ)fine twined linen. It shall be made with cherubim ^(AR)skillfully worked into it. ³²And you shall hang it on four pillars of acacia overlaid with gold, with hooks of gold, on four bases of silver. ³³And you shall hang ^(AS)the veil from the clasps, and bring ^(AT)the ark of the testimony in there within the veil. And the veil shall separate for you the Holy Place from the Most Holy. ³⁴^(AU)You shall put the mercy seat on the ark of the testimony in the Most Holy Place. ³⁵And ^(AV)you shall set the table outside the veil, and the ^(AW)lampstand on the south side of the tabernacle opposite the table, and you shall put the table on the north side.

³⁶“You shall make a ^(AX)screen for the entrance of the tent, of ^(AY)blue and purple and scarlet yarns and ^(AZ)fine twined linen, embroidered with needlework. ³⁷And you shall make for the screen five pillars of acacia, and overlay them with gold. Their hooks shall be of gold, and you shall cast five bases of bronze for them.

The Bronze Altar

27 “You shall make the ^(BA)altar of acacia wood, five cubits^[h] long and five cubits broad. The altar shall be square, and its height shall be three cubits. ²And you shall make ^(BB)horns for it on its four corners; its horns shall be of one piece with it, and ^(BC)you shall overlay it with bronze. ³You shall make pots for it to receive its ashes, and shovels and basins and ^(BD)forks and fire pans. You shall make all its utensils of bronze. ⁴You shall also make for it a grating, a network of bronze, and on the net you shall make four bronze rings at its four corners. ⁵And you shall set it under the ledge of the altar so that the net extends halfway down the altar. ⁶And you shall make poles for the altar, poles of acacia wood, and overlay them with bronze. ⁷And the poles shall be put through the rings, so that the poles are on the two sides of the altar when it is carried. ⁸You shall make it hollow, with boards. ^(BE)As it has been shown you on the mountain, so shall it be made.

The Court of the Tabernacle

⁹^(BF)“You shall make the court of the tabernacle. On the south side the court shall have hangings of fine twined linen a hundred cubits long for one side. ¹⁰Its twenty pillars and their twenty bases shall be of bronze, but the hooks of the pillars and their fillets shall be of silver. ¹¹And likewise for its length on the north side there shall be hangings a hundred cubits long, its pillars twenty and their bases twenty, of bronze, but the hooks of the pillars and their fillets shall be of silver. ¹²And for the breadth of the court on the west side there shall be hangings for fifty cubits, with ten pillars and ten bases. ¹³The breadth of the court on the front to the east shall be fifty cubits. ¹⁴The hangings for the one side of the gate shall be fifteen cubits, with their three pillars and three bases. ¹⁵On the other side the hangings shall be fifteen cubits, with their three pillars and three bases. ¹⁶For the gate of the court there shall be ^(BG)a screen twenty cubits long, of blue and purple and scarlet yarns and fine twined linen, embroidered with needlework. It shall have four pillars and with them four bases. ¹⁷All the pillars around the court shall be filleted with silver. Their hooks shall be of silver, and their bases of bronze. ¹⁸The length of the court shall be a hundred cubits, the breadth fifty, and the height five cubits, with hangings of fine twined linen and bases of bronze. ¹⁹All the utensils of the tabernacle for every use, and all its pegs and all the pegs of the court, shall be of bronze.

Oil for the Lamp

²⁰^(BH)“You shall command the people of Israel that they bring to you pure beaten olive oil for the light, that a lamp may regularly be set up to burn. ²¹^(BI)In the tent of meeting, ^(BJ)outside the veil that is before the testimony, Aaron and his sons shall tend it from evening to morning before the Lord. It shall be a statute forever to be observed throughout their generations by the people of Israel.

The Priests' Garments

28 “Then bring near to you ^(BK)Aaron your brother, and his sons with him, from among the people of Israel, to serve me as priests—Aaron and Aaron's sons, ^(BL)Nadab and Abihu, Eleazar and Ithamar. ²^(BM)And you shall make holy garments for Aaron your brother, for glory and for beauty. ³You shall speak to all the ^(BN)skillful, whom I have filled with a spirit of skill, that they make Aaron's garments to consecrate him for my priesthood. ⁴These are the garments that they shall make: a ^(BO)breastpiece, an ^(BP)ephod, ^(BQ)a robe, ^(BR)a coat of checker work, ^(BS)a turban, and ^(BT)a sash. They shall make holy garments for Aaron your brother and his sons to serve me as priests. ⁵They shall receive ^(BU)gold, blue and purple and scarlet yarns, and fine twined linen.

⁶^(BV)“And they shall make the ephod of gold, of blue and purple and scarlet yarns, and of fine twined linen, skillfully worked. ⁷It shall have two shoulder pieces attached to its two edges, so that it may be joined together. ⁸And the ^(BW)skillfully woven band on it shall be made like it and be of one piece with it, of gold, blue and purple and scarlet yarns, and fine twined linen. ⁹You shall take two onyx stones, and engrave on them the names of the sons of Israel, ¹⁰six of their names on the one stone, and the names of the remaining six on the other stone, in the order of their birth. ¹¹As a jeweler engraves signets, so shall you engrave the two stones with the names of the sons of Israel. You shall enclose them in settings of gold filigree. ¹²And you shall set the two stones on the shoulder pieces of the ephod, as stones of remembrance for the sons of Israel. And ^(BX)Aaron shall bear their names before the Lord on his two shoulders ^(BY)for remembrance. ¹³You shall make settings of gold filigree, ¹⁴and two chains of pure gold, twisted like cords; and you shall attach the corded chains to the settings.

¹⁵^(BZ)“You shall make a breastpiece of judgment, in skilled work. In the style of the ephod you shall make it—of gold, blue and purple and scarlet yarns, and fine twined linen shall you make it. ¹⁶It shall be square and doubled, a span^[i] its length and a span its breadth. ¹⁷^(CA)You shall set in it four rows of stones. A row of sardius,^[j] topaz, and carbuncle shall be the first row; ¹⁸and the second row an emerald, a sapphire, and a diamond; ¹⁹and the third row a jacinth, an agate, and an amethyst; ²⁰and the fourth row a beryl, an onyx, and a jasper. They shall be set in gold filigree. ²¹There shall be twelve stones with their names according to the names of the sons of Israel. They shall be like signets, each engraved with its name, for the twelve tribes. ²²You shall make for the breastpiece twisted chains like cords, of pure gold. ²³And you shall make for the breastpiece two rings of gold, and put the two rings on the two edges of the breastpiece. ²⁴And you shall put the two cords of gold in the two rings at the edges of the breastpiece. ²⁵The two ends of the two cords you shall attach to the two settings of filigree, and so attach it in front to the shoulder pieces of the ephod. ²⁶You shall make two rings of gold, and put them at the two ends of the breastpiece, on its inside edge next to the ephod. ²⁷And you shall make two rings of gold, and attach them in front to the lower part of the two shoulder pieces of the ephod, at its seam above the ^(CB)skillfully woven band of the ephod. ²⁸And they shall bind the breastpiece by its rings to the rings of the ephod with a lace of blue, so that it may lie on the skillfully woven band of the ephod, so that the breastpiece shall not come loose from the ephod. ²⁹^(CC)So Aaron shall bear the names of the sons of Israel in the breastpiece of judgment on his heart, when he goes into the Holy Place, to bring them to regular ^(CD)remembrance before the Lord. ³⁰And in the breastpiece of judgment ^(CE)you shall put the Urim and the Thummim, and they shall be on Aaron's heart, when he goes in before the Lord. Thus Aaron shall bear the judgment of the people of Israel on his heart before the Lord regularly.

³¹^(CF)“You shall make the robe of the ephod all of blue. ³²It shall have an opening for the head in the middle of it, with a woven binding around the opening, like the opening in a garment,^[k] so that it may not tear. ³³On its hem you shall make pomegranates of blue and purple and scarlet yarns, around its hem, with bells of gold between them, ³⁴a golden bell and a pomegranate, a golden bell and a pomegranate, around the hem of the robe. ³⁵And it shall be on Aaron when he ministers, and its sound shall be heard when he goes into the Holy Place before the Lord, and when he comes out, so that he does not die.

³⁶“You shall make ^(CG)a plate of pure gold and engrave on it, like the engraving of a signet, ^(CH)‘Holy to the Lord.’ ³⁷And you shall fasten it on the turban by a cord of blue. It shall be on the front of the turban. ³⁸It shall be on Aaron's forehead, and Aaron shall ^(CI)bear any guilt from the holy things that the people of Israel consecrate as their holy gifts. It shall regularly be on his forehead, that they may be accepted before the Lord.

³⁹“You shall weave the coat in checker work of fine linen, and you shall make a turban of fine linen, and you shall make a sash embroidered with needlework.

⁴⁰^(CJ)“For Aaron's sons you shall make coats and sashes and caps. You shall make them ^(CK)for glory and beauty. ⁴¹And you shall put them on Aaron your brother, and on his sons with him, and shall ^(CL)anoint them and ordain them and ^(CM)consecrate them, that they may serve me as priests. ⁴²You shall make for them ^(CN)linen undergarments to cover their naked flesh. They shall reach from the hips to the thighs; ⁴³and they shall be on Aaron and on his sons when they go into the tent of meeting or when they come near the altar to minister in the Holy Place, lest they ^(CO)bear guilt and die. ^(CP)This shall be a statute forever for him and for his offspring after him.

Consecration of the Priests

29 “Now this is what you shall do to them to consecrate them, that they may serve me as priests. ^(CQ)Take one bull of the herd and two rams without blemish, ²^(CR)and unleavened bread, unleavened cakes mixed with oil, and unleavened wafers smeared with oil. You shall make them of fine wheat flour. ³You shall put them in one basket and bring them in the basket, and bring the bull and the two rams. ⁴You shall bring Aaron and his sons to the entrance of the tent of meeting and ^(CS)wash them with water. ⁵Then ^(CT)you shall take the garments, and put on Aaron the coat and the robe of the ephod, and the ephod, and the breastpiece, and gird him with the ^(CU)skillfully woven band of the ephod. ⁶^(CV)And you shall set the turban on his head and put the holy crown on the turban. ⁷You shall take ^(CW)the anointing oil and pour it on his head and anoint him. ⁸Then you ^(CX)shall bring his sons and put coats on them, ⁹and you shall gird Aaron and his sons with ^(CY)sashes and bind caps on them. And ^(CZ)the priesthood shall be theirs by a statute forever. Thus you shall ^(DA)ordain Aaron and his sons.

¹⁰“Then you shall bring the bull before the tent of meeting. ^(DB)Aaron and his sons shall lay their hands on the head of the bull. ¹¹Then you shall kill the bull before the Lord at the entrance of the tent of meeting, ¹²and ^(DC)shall take part of the blood of the bull and put it on the ^(DD)horns of the altar with your finger, and the rest of^[l] the blood you shall pour out at the base of the altar. ¹³And you shall take all ^(DE)the fat that covers the entrails, and the long lobe of the liver, and the two kidneys with the fat that is on them, and burn them on the altar. ¹⁴But the flesh of the bull and its skin and its dung you shall burn with fire ^(DF)outside the camp; ^(DG)it is a sin offering.

¹⁵“Then ^(DH)you shall take one of the rams, and ^(DI)Aaron and his sons shall lay their hands on the head of the ram, ¹⁶and you shall kill the ram and shall take its blood and throw it against the sides of the altar. ¹⁷Then you shall ^(DJ)cut the ram into pieces, and wash its entrails and its legs, and put them with its pieces and its head, ¹⁸and burn the whole ram on the altar. It is a burnt offering to the Lord. It is a ^(DK)pleasing aroma, a food offering^[m] to the Lord.

¹⁹^(DL)“You shall take the other ram, ^(DM)and Aaron and his sons shall lay their hands on the head of the ram, ²⁰and you shall kill the ram and take part of its blood and put it on the tip of the right ear of Aaron and on the tips of the right ears of his sons, and on the thumbs of their right hands and on the great toes of their right feet, and throw the rest of the blood against the sides of the altar. ²¹Then you shall take part of the blood that is on the altar, and of the ^(DN)anointing oil, and sprinkle it on Aaron and his garments, and on his sons and his sons' garments with him. He and his garments shall be holy, and his sons and his sons' garments with him.

²²“You shall also take the fat from the ram and the fat tail and the ^(DO)fat that covers the entrails, and the long lobe of the liver and the two kidneys with the fat that is on them, and the right thigh (for it is a ram of ^(DP)ordination), ²³and ^(DQ)one loaf of bread and one cake of bread made with oil, and one wafer out of the basket of unleavened bread that is before the Lord. ²⁴You shall put all these on the palms of Aaron and on the palms of his sons, and ^(DR)wave them for a wave offering before the Lord. ²⁵Then ^(DS)you shall take them from their hands and burn them on the altar on top of the burnt offering, as a ^(DT)pleasing aroma before the Lord. It is a food offering to the Lord.

²⁶“You shall take the ^(DU)breast of the ram of Aaron's ^(DV)ordination and ^(DW)wave it for a wave offering before the Lord, and it shall be your portion. ²⁷And you shall consecrate the ^(DX)breast of the wave offering that is waved and the ^(DY)thigh of the priests' portion that is contributed from the ram of ^(DZ)ordination, from what was Aaron's and his sons'. ²⁸It shall be for Aaron and his sons as a ^(EA)perpetual due from the people of Israel, for it is a ^(EB)contribution. It shall be a ^(EC)contribution from the people of Israel from their peace offerings, their contribution to the Lord.

²⁹“The holy garments of Aaron ^(ED)shall be for his sons after him; they shall ^(EE)be anointed in them and ordained in them. ³⁰The son who succeeds him as priest, who comes into the tent of meeting to minister in the Holy Place, shall wear them ^(EF)seven days.

³¹“You shall take the ram of ordination and ^(EG)boil its flesh in a holy place. ³²And Aaron and his sons shall eat the flesh of the ram and the ^(EH)bread that is in the basket in the entrance of the tent of meeting. ³³^(EI)They shall eat those things with which atonement was made at their ordination and consecration, but an ^(EJ)outsider shall not eat of them, because they are holy. ³⁴And if any of the flesh for the ordination or of the bread remain until the morning, then you shall ^(EK)burn the remainder with fire. It shall not be eaten, because it is holy.

³⁵“Thus you shall do to Aaron and to his sons, according to all that I have commanded you. Through ^(EL)seven days shall you ordain them, ³⁶and every day you shall offer a ^(EM)bull as a sin offering for atonement. Also you shall purify the altar, when you make atonement for it, and shall ^(EN)anoint it to consecrate it. ³⁷Seven days you shall make atonement for the altar and consecrate it, and the ^(EO)altar shall be most holy. ^(EP)Whatever touches the altar shall become holy.

³⁸“Now this is what you shall offer on the altar: ^(EQ)two lambs a year old ^(ER)day by day regularly. ³⁹One lamb you shall offer ^(ES)in the morning, and the other lamb you shall offer ^(ET)at twilight. ⁴⁰And with the first lamb a tenth measure^[n] of fine flour mingled with a fourth of a hin^[o] of beaten oil, and a fourth of a hin of wine for a drink offering. ⁴¹The other lamb you shall offer ^(EU)at twilight, and shall offer with it a grain offering and its drink offering, as ^(EV)in the morning, for a ^(EW)pleasing aroma, a food offering to the Lord. ⁴²It shall be a ^(EX)regular burnt offering throughout your generations at the entrance of the tent of meeting before the Lord, ^(EY)where I will meet with you, to speak to you there. ⁴³There I will meet with the people of Israel, and it shall be ^(EZ)sanctified by my glory. ⁴⁴I will consecrate the tent of meeting and the altar. ^(FA)Aaron also and his sons I will consecrate to serve me as priests. ⁴⁵^(FB)I will dwell among the people of Israel and will be their God. ⁴⁶And they shall know that ^(FC)I am the Lord their God, who brought them out of the land of Egypt that I might dwell among them. I am the Lord their God.

The Altar of Incense

30 ^(FD)“You shall make ^(FE)an altar on which to burn incense; you shall make it of acacia wood. ²A cubit^[p] shall be its length, and a cubit its breadth. It shall be square, and two cubits shall be its height. ^(FF)Its horns shall be of one piece with it. ³You shall ^(FG)overlay it with pure gold, its top and around its sides and its horns. And you shall make a molding of gold around it. ⁴And you shall make two golden rings for it. Under its molding on two opposite sides of it you shall make them, and they shall be ^(FH)holders for poles with which to carry it. ⁵You shall make the poles of acacia wood and overlay them with gold. ⁶And you shall put it in front of the veil that is above the ark of the testimony, in front of the ^(FI)mercy seat that is above the testimony, where I will meet with you. ⁷And Aaron shall ^(FJ)burn fragrant incense on it. Every morning when he ^(FK)dresses the lamps he shall burn it, ⁸and when Aaron sets up the lamps at twilight, he shall burn it, a regular incense offering before the Lord throughout your generations. ⁹You shall not offer ^(FL)unauthorized incense on it, or a burnt offering, or a grain offering, and you shall not pour a drink offering on it. ¹⁰^(FM)Aaron shall make atonement on its horns once a year. With the blood of the ^(FN)sin offering of atonement he shall make atonement for it once in the year throughout your generations. It is most holy to the Lord.”

The Census Tax

¹¹The Lord said to Moses, ¹²^(FO)“When you take the census of the people of Israel, then each shall give ^(FP)a ransom for his life to the Lord when you number them, that there be no plague among them when you number them. ¹³Each one who is numbered in the census shall give this: half a shekel^[q] according to the ^(FQ)shekel of the sanctuary (the ^(FR)shekel is twenty gerahs),^[r] ^(FS)half a shekel as an offering to the Lord. ¹⁴Everyone who is numbered in the census, from twenty years old and upward, shall give the Lord's offering. ¹⁵The rich shall not give more, and the poor shall not give less, than ^(FT)the half shekel, when you give the Lord's offering to make atonement for your lives. ¹⁶You shall take the atonement money from the people of Israel and shall ^(FU)give it for the service of the tent of meeting, that it may bring the people of Israel to ^(FV)remembrance before the Lord, so as to make atonement for your lives.”

The Bronze Basin

¹⁷The Lord said to Moses, ¹⁸“You shall also make a ^(FW)basin of bronze, with its stand of bronze, for washing. ^(FX)You shall put it between the tent of meeting and the altar, and you shall put water in it, ¹⁹with which Aaron and his sons ^(FY)shall wash their hands and their feet. ²⁰When they go into the tent of meeting, or when they come near the altar to minister, to burn a food offering^[s] to the Lord, they shall wash with water, so that they may not die. ²¹They shall wash their hands and their feet, so that they may not die. It shall ^(FZ)be a statute forever to them, even to him and to his offspring throughout their generations.”

The Anointing Oil and Incense

²²The Lord said to Moses, ²³“Take the ^(GA)finest spices: of liquid myrrh 500 shekels, and of sweet-smelling cinnamon half as much, that is, 250, and 250 of ^(GB)aromatic cane, ²⁴and 500 of cassia, according to the shekel of the sanctuary, and a ^(GC)hin^[t] of olive oil. ²⁵And you shall make of these a sacred anointing oil blended as by the ^(GD)perfumer; it shall be a ^(GE)holy anointing oil. ²⁶^(GF)With it you shall anoint the tent of meeting and the ark of the testimony, ²⁷and the table and all its utensils, and the lampstand and its utensils, and the altar of incense, ²⁸and the altar of burnt offering with all its utensils and the ^(GG)basin and its stand. ²⁹You shall consecrate them, that they may be most holy. ^(GH)Whatever touches them will become holy. ³⁰^(GI)You shall anoint Aaron and his sons, and consecrate them, that they may serve me as priests. ³¹And you shall say to the people of Israel, ‘This shall be my holy anointing oil throughout your generations. ³²It shall not be poured on the body of an ordinary person, and you shall make no other like it in composition. ^(GJ)It is holy, and it shall be holy to you. ³³^(GK)Whoever compounds any like it or whoever puts any of it on an outsider shall be cut off from his people.’”

³⁴The Lord said to Moses, ^(GL)“Take sweet spices, stacte, and onycha, and galbanum, sweet spices with pure frankincense (of each shall there be an equal part), ³⁵and make an ^(GM)incense blended as by the ^(GN)perfumer, ^(GO)seasoned with salt, pure and holy. ³⁶You shall beat some of it very small, and put part of it before the testimony in the tent of meeting ^(GP)where I shall meet with you. ^(GQ)It shall be most holy for you. ³⁷And the incense that you shall make ^(GR)according to its composition, you shall not make for yourselves. It shall be for you holy to the Lord. ³⁸^(GS)Whoever makes any like it to use as perfume shall be cut off from his people.”

Oholiab and Bezalel

31 The Lord said to Moses, ²“See, I have called by name ^(GT)Bezalel the son of Uri, son of ^(GU)Hur, of the tribe of Judah, ³and I have ^(GV)filled him with the Spirit of God, with ability and intelligence, with knowledge and all craftsmanship, ⁴to devise artistic designs, to work in gold, silver, and bronze, ⁵in cutting stones for setting, and in carving wood, to work in every craft. ⁶And behold, I have appointed with him ^(GW)Oholiab, the son of Ahisamach, of the tribe of Dan. And I have given to all able men ^(GX)ability, that they may make all that I have commanded you: ⁷^(GY)the tent of meeting, and ^(GZ)the ark of the testimony, and ^(HA)the mercy seat that is on it, and all the furnishings of the tent, ⁸^(HB)the table and its utensils, and ^(HC)the pure lampstand with all its utensils, and ^(HD)the altar of incense, ⁹and ^(HE)the altar of burnt offering with all its utensils, and ^(HF)the basin and its stand, ¹⁰and ^(HG)the finely worked garments,^[u] the holy garments for Aaron the priest and the garments of his sons, for their service as priests, ¹¹and ^(HH)the anointing oil and the fragrant ^(HI)incense for the Holy Place. According to all that I have commanded you, they shall do.”

The Sabbath

¹²And the Lord said to Moses, ¹³“You are to speak to the people of Israel and say, ‘Above all you shall keep my Sabbaths, for this is a sign between me and you throughout your generations, that you may know that I, the Lord, sanctify you. ¹⁴You shall keep the Sabbath, because it is holy for you. Everyone who profanes it shall be put to death. ^(HJ)Whoever does any work on it, that soul shall be cut off from among his people. ¹⁵^(HK)Six days shall work be done, but ^(HL)the seventh day is a Sabbath of solemn rest, holy to the Lord. ^(HM)Whoever does any work on the Sabbath day shall be put to death. ¹⁶Therefore the people of Israel shall keep the Sabbath, observing the Sabbath throughout their generations, as a covenant forever. ¹⁷^(HN)It is a sign forever between me and the people of Israel that ^(HO)in six days the Lord made heaven and earth, and ^(HP)on the seventh day he rested and was refreshed.’”

Offerings for the Sanctuary

Ark of the Covenant

¹⁰“Now ^(K)they shall construct an ^[g]ark of acacia wood ^[h]two and a half cubits ^[i]long, one and a half cubits ^[j]wide, and one and a half cubits ^[k]high. ¹¹You shall ^(L)overlay it with pure gold, inside and out you shall overlay it, and you shall make a gold molding ^[l]around it. ¹²You shall also cast four gold rings for it and ^[m]fasten them on its four feet; two rings shall be on one side of it, and two rings on the other side of it. ¹³And you shall make poles of acacia wood and overlay them with gold. ¹⁴You shall put the poles into the rings on the sides of the ark, to carry the ark with them. ¹⁵The ^(M)poles shall ^[n]remain in the rings of the ark; they shall not be removed from it. ¹⁶You shall ^(N)put into the ark the testimony which I shall give you.

Bread of the Presence

The Golden Lampstand

³¹“^(Y)Then you shall make a lampstand of pure gold. Curtains of Linen

26 “^(AH)Moreover, you shall make the tabernacle with ten curtains of fine twisted linen and ^[ar]violet, purple, and scarlet material; you shall make them with cherubim, the work of a skilled embroiderer. ²The length of each curtain shall be ^[as]twenty-eight cubits, and the width of each curtain four cubits; all the curtains shall have ^[at]the same measurements. ³Five curtains shall be ^[au]joined to one another, and the other five curtains shall be ^[av]joined to one another. ⁴You shall make loops of violet on the edge of the ^[aw]outermost curtain in the first set, and likewise you shall make them on the edge of the curtain that is outermost in the second ^[ax]set. ⁵You shall make fifty loops in the one curtain, and you shall make fifty loops on the ^[ay]edge of the curtain that is in the second ^[az]set; the loops shall be opposite each other. ⁶You shall also make fifty clasps of gold, and ^[ba]join the curtains to one another with the clasps so that the ^[bb]tabernacle will be a unit.

Curtains of Goats’ Hair

⁷“Then ^(AI)you shall make curtains of goats’ hair as a tent over the tabernacle; you shall make eleven curtains in all. ⁸The length of each curtain shall be ^[bc]thirty cubits, and the width of each curtain four cubits; the eleven curtains shall have ^[bd]the same measurements. ⁹You shall ^[be]join five curtains by themselves and the other six curtains by themselves, and you shall double over the sixth curtain ^[bf]at the front of the tent. ¹⁰You shall make fifty loops on the edge of the ^[bg]curtain that is outermost in the first ^[bh]set, and fifty loops on the edge of the curtain that is outermost in the second ^[bi]set.

¹¹“You shall also make fifty clasps of ^[bj]bronze, and you shall put the clasps into the loops and ^[bk]join the tent together so that it will be ^[bl]a unit. ¹²The ^[bm]overhanging part that is left over in the curtains of the tent, the half curtain that is left over, shall hang over the back of the tabernacle. ¹³The ^[bn]cubit on one side and the cubit on the other, of what is left over in the length of the curtains of the tent, shall hang over the sides of the tabernacle on one side and on the other, to cover it. ¹⁴And ^(AJ)you shall make a covering for the tent of rams’ skins ^[bo]dyed red and a covering of ^[bp]fine leather above.

Boards and Bases

¹⁵“Then you shall make ^(AK)the boards for the tabernacle of acacia wood, standing upright. ¹⁶^[bq]Ten cubits shall be the length of ^[br]each board and one and a half cubits the width of each board. ¹⁷There shall be two tenons for each board, ^[bs]fitted to one another; that is what you shall do for all the boards of the tabernacle. ¹⁸You shall make the boards for the tabernacle: twenty boards ^[bt]for the south side. ¹⁹You shall make forty ^(AL)bases of silver under the twenty boards, two bases under one board for its two tenons and two bases under another board for its two tenons; ²⁰and for the second side of the tabernacle, on the north side, twenty boards, ²¹and their forty bases of silver; two bases under one board and two bases under another board. ²²For the ^[bu]back of the tabernacle, to the west, you shall make six boards. ²³You shall make two boards for the corners of the tabernacle at the ^[bv]back. ²⁴They shall be double beneath, and together they shall be complete ^[bw]to its top ^[bx]to the first ring; this is how it shall be with both of them: they shall form the two corners. ²⁵And there shall be eight boards with their bases of silver, sixteen bases; two bases under one board and two bases under another board.

²⁶“Then you shall make ^(AM)bars of acacia wood, five for the boards of one side of the tabernacle, ²⁷and five bars for the boards of the ^[by]other side of the tabernacle, and five bars for the boards of the side of the tabernacle for the ^[bz]back side to the west. ²⁸The middle bar in the ^[ca]center of the boards shall pass through from end to end. ²⁹And you shall overlay the boards with gold, and make their rings of gold as holders for the bars; and you shall overlay the bars with gold. ³⁰Then you shall erect the tabernacle ^(AN)according to its plan which you have been shown on the mountain.

The Veil and Curtain

³¹“You shall also make ^(AO)a veil of violet, purple, and scarlet material, and fine twisted linen; it shall be made with cherubim, the work of a skilled embroiderer. ³²Then you shall ^[cb]hang it on four pillars of acacia overlaid with gold, their hooks also of gold, on four bases of silver. ³³You shall ^[cc]hang up the veil under the clasps, and bring in ^(AP)the ark of the testimony there within the veil; and the veil shall ^[cd]serve as a partition for you ^(AQ)between the Holy Place and the Most Holy Place. ³⁴^(AR)You shall put the ^[ce]atoning cover on the ark of the testimony in the Most Holy Place. ³⁵And ^(AS)you shall set the table outside the veil, and the ^(AT)lampstand opposite the table on the side of the tabernacle toward the south; and you shall put the table on the north side.

³⁶“^(AU)You shall also make a curtain for the doorway of the tent of violet, purple, and scarlet material and fine twisted linen, the work of a ^[cf]weaver. ³⁷And ^(AV)you shall make five pillars of acacia for the curtain and overlay them with gold, their hooks also of gold; and you shall cast five bases of ^[cg]bronze for them.

The Bronze Altar

27 “Now you shall make ^(AW)the altar of acacia wood, ^[ch]five cubits long and five cubits wide; the altar shall be square, and its height shall be ^[ci]three cubits. ²You shall make ^(AX)its horns on its four corners; its horns shall be of one piece with it, and you shall overlay it with ^[cj]bronze. ³And you shall make its pails for removing its ashes, and its shovels, its basins, its forks, and its firepans; you shall make all its utensils of bronze. ⁴You shall also make for it a grating, a netting of bronze, and on the netting you shall make four bronze rings ^[ck]at its four corners. ⁵And you shall put it under the ledge of the altar, so that the netting will reach halfway up the altar. ⁶You shall also make carrying poles for the altar, poles of acacia wood and overlay them with bronze. ⁷Its poles shall be inserted into the rings, so that the poles will be on the two sides of the altar ^(AY)when it is carried. ⁸You shall make it hollow with planks; ^(AZ)as it was shown to you on the mountain, so they shall make it.

Courtyard of the Tabernacle

⁹“Now you shall make ^(BA)the courtyard of the ^[cl]tabernacle. ^[cm]On the south side there shall be hangings for the courtyard of fine twisted linen, a ^[cn]hundred cubits long for one side; ¹⁰and its pillars shall be twenty, with their twenty bases of bronze; the hooks of the pillars and their ^[co]bands shall be of silver. ¹¹Likewise for the north side in length there shall be hangings a ^[cp]hundred cubits long, and its twenty pillars with their twenty bases of bronze; the hooks of the pillars and their bands shall be of silver. ¹²For the width of the courtyard on the west side shall be hangings of ^[cq]fifty cubits, with their ten pillars and their ten bases. ¹³The width of the courtyard on the ^[cr]east side shall be fifty cubits. ¹⁴The hangings for the one ^[cs]side of the gate shall be ^[ct]fifteen cubits, with their three pillars and their three bases. ¹⁵And for the ^[cu]other ^[cv]side there shall be hangings of fifteen cubits, with their three pillars and their three bases. ¹⁶And for the gate of the courtyard there shall be a curtain of ^[cw]twenty cubits, of ^[cx]violet, purple, and scarlet material and fine twisted linen, the work of a ^[cy]weaver, with their four pillars and their four bases. ¹⁷All the pillars around the courtyard shall be joined together with silver, with their hooks of silver and their bases of bronze. ¹⁸The length of the courtyard shall be a ^[cz]hundred cubits, and the width fifty throughout, and the height five cubits of fine twisted linen, and their bases of bronze. ¹⁹All the utensils of the tabernacle used in all its service, and all its pegs, and all the pegs of the courtyard, shall be of bronze.

²⁰“And you shall command the sons of Israel that they bring you ^(BB)clear oil of beaten olives for the ^[da]light, to make a lamp ^[db]burn continually. ²¹In the ^(BC)tent of meeting, outside ^(BD)the veil which is before the testimony, ^(BE)Aaron and his sons shall keep it in order from evening to morning before the Lord; it shall be a permanent ^(BF)statute throughout their generations ^[dc]for the sons of Israel.

Garments of the Priests

28 “Then ^(BG)bring forward to yourself your brother Aaron, and his sons with him, from among the sons of Israel, to serve as priest to Me—Aaron, ^(BH)Nadab and Abihu, Eleazar and Ithamar, Aaron’s sons. ²And you shall make ^(BI)holy garments for Aaron your brother, for glory and for beauty. ³You shall speak to all the ^[dd]^(BJ)skillful people ^(BK)whom I have endowed with ^[de]the spirit of wisdom, that they make Aaron’s garments to consecrate him, that he may serve as priest to Me. ⁴And these are the garments which they shall make: a ^[df]^(BL)breastpiece, an ephod, a robe, a tunic of checkered work, a turban, and a sash. They shall make holy garments for your brother Aaron and his sons, so that he may serve as priest to Me. ⁵They shall take ^(BM)the gold, the ^[dg]violet, the purple, the scarlet material, and the fine linen.

⁶“They shall also make ^(BN)the ephod of gold, of violet, purple, and scarlet material, and fine twisted linen, the work of the skilled embroiderer. ⁷It shall have two shoulder pieces joined to its two ends, so that it may be joined. ⁸The skillfully woven band of its overlay, which is on it, shall be like its workmanship, ^[dh]of the same material: of gold, of violet and purple and scarlet material and fine twisted linen. ⁹And you shall take two onyx stones and engrave on them the names of the sons of Israel, ¹⁰six of their names on the one stone and the names of the remaining six on the ^[di]other stone, according to their birth. ¹¹^[dj]As a jeweler engraves a signet, you shall engrave the two stones according to the names of the sons of Israel; you shall ^[dk]set them in filigree settings of gold. ¹²And you shall put the two stones on the shoulder pieces of the ephod, as stones of memorial for the sons of Israel, and Aaron shall ^(BO)carry their names before the Lord on his two shoulders ^(BP)as a memorial. ¹³And ^(BQ)you shall make filigree settings of gold, ¹⁴and two chains of pure gold; you shall make them of twisted cord work, and you shall put the corded chains on the filigree settings.

¹⁵“^(BR)You shall make a ^[dl]breastpiece of judgment, the work of a skilled embroiderer; like the work of the ephod you shall make it: of gold, of violet, purple, and scarlet material, and fine twisted linen you shall make it. ¹⁶It shall be square and folded double, a ^[dm]span ^[dn]in length and a ^[do]span ^[dp]in width. ¹⁷And you shall ^[dq]mount on it four rows of stones; the first row shall be a row of ruby, topaz, and emerald; ¹⁸and the second row a turquoise, a sapphire, and a diamond; ¹⁹and the third row a jacinth, an agate, and an amethyst; ²⁰and the fourth row a beryl, and an onyx, and a jasper; they shall be set in gold filigree. ²¹The stones shall be engraved according to the names of the sons of Israel: twelve, according to their names; they shall be like the engravings of a signet, each ^(BS)according to his name for the twelve tribes. ²²You shall also make on the ^[dr]breastpiece twisted chains of cord work in pure gold. ²³And you shall make on the breastpiece two rings of gold, and shall put the two rings on the two ends of the breastpiece. ²⁴And you shall put the two cords of gold on the two rings at the ends of the breastpiece. ²⁵You shall put the other two ends of the two cords on the two filigree settings, and put them on the shoulder pieces of the ephod, at the front of it. ²⁶And you shall make two rings of gold and place them on the two ends of the breastpiece, on the edge of it, which is toward the inner side of the ephod. ²⁷And you shall make two rings of gold and put them on the bottom of the two shoulder pieces of the ephod, on the front of it close to the place where it is joined, above the skillfully woven band of the ephod. ²⁸And they shall bind the breastpiece by its rings to the rings of the ephod with a violet cord, so that it will be on the skillfully woven band of the ephod, and that the breastpiece will not come loose from the ephod. ²⁹So Aaron shall carry the names of the sons of Israel in the breastpiece of judgment over his heart when he enters the Holy Place, as a memorial before the Lord continually. ³⁰And ^(BT)you shall put in the breastpiece of judgment the ^[ds]^(BU)Urim and the Thummim, and they shall be over Aaron’s heart when he goes in before the Lord; and Aaron shall carry the judgment of the sons of Israel over his heart before the Lord continually.

³¹“^(BV)You shall make the robe of the ephod all of violet. ³²There shall be an opening ^[dt]at its top in the middle of it; around its opening there shall be a binding of woven work, like the opening of a coat of mail, so that it will not be torn. ³³You shall make on its hem pomegranates of violet, purple, and scarlet material all around on its hem, and bells of gold between them all around: ³⁴a golden bell and a pomegranate, a golden bell and a pomegranate, all around on the hem of the robe. ³⁵It shall be on Aaron ^[du]when he ministers; and its sound shall be heard when he enters and leaves the Holy Place before the Lord, so that he will not die.

³⁶“You shall also make ^(BW)a plate of pure gold and engrave on it, like the engravings of a signet, ‘^(BX)Holy to the Lord.’ ³⁷You shall ^[dv]fasten it on a violet cord, and it shall be on the turban; it shall be at the front of the turban. ³⁸It shall be on Aaron’s forehead, and Aaron shall ^[dw]^(BY)take away the guilt of the holy things which the sons of Israel consecrate, regarding all their holy gifts; and it shall always be on his forehead, so that ^(BZ)they may be accepted before the Lord.

³⁹“And you shall weave ^(CA)the tunic of checkered work of fine linen, and shall make a turban of fine linen, and you shall make a sash, the work of a ^[dx]weaver.

⁴⁰“For Aaron’s sons you shall also make ^(CB)tunics; you shall also make sashes for them, and you shall make ^[dy]^(CC)caps for them, for glory and for beauty. ⁴¹Then you shall put them on Aaron your brother and on his sons with him; and you shall ^(CD)anoint them and ^[dz]ordain them and consecrate them, so that they may serve Me as priests. ⁴²You shall make for them ^(CE)linen undergarments to cover their bare flesh; they shall ^[ea]reach from the waist even to the thighs. ⁴³And they shall be on Aaron and on his sons when they enter the tent of meeting, or ^(CF)when they approach the altar to minister in the Holy Place, so that they do not incur ^[eb]guilt and die. ^(CG)It shall be a statute forever to him and to his ^[ec]descendants after him.

Consecration of the Priests

29 “^(CH)Now this is ^[ed]what you shall do to them to consecrate them to serve as priests to Me: take one bull and two rams without blemish, ²and ^(CI)unleavened bread and unleavened cakes mixed with oil, and unleavened wafers ^[ee]spread with oil; you shall make them of fine wheat flour. ³And you shall put them in one basket, and present them in the basket along with the bull and the two rams. ⁴Then ^(CJ)you shall bring Aaron and his sons to the doorway of the tent of meeting and wash them with water. ⁵And you shall take the garments, and put on Aaron the ^(CK)tunic and ^(CL)the robe of the ephod, and ^(CM)the ephod and ^(CN)the ^[ef]breastpiece, and wrap his waist with the skillfully ^(CO)woven band of the ephod; ⁶and you shall set the ^(CP)turban on his head and put ^(CQ)the holy crown on the turban. ⁷Then you shall take ^(CR)the anointing oil and pour it on his head, and anoint him. ⁸You shall also bring his sons and put ^(CS)tunics on them. ⁹And you shall wrap their waists with ^(CT)sashes, Aaron and his sons, and fit ^[eg]caps on them, and they shall have ^(CU)the priesthood by a permanent statute. So you shall ^[eh]^(CV)ordain Aaron and his sons.

The Sacrifices

¹⁰“Then you shall bring the bull in front of the tent of meeting, and Aaron and his sons shall ^(CW)lay their hands on the head of the bull. ¹¹And you shall slaughter the bull before the Lord at the doorway of the tent of meeting. ¹²Then you shall ^(CX)take some of the blood of the bull and put it on ^(CY)the horns of the altar with your finger; and you shall pour out all the rest of the blood at the base of the altar. ¹³And you shall ^(CZ)take all the fat that covers the entrails, and the ^[ei]lobe of the liver, and the two kidneys and the fat that is on them, and offer them up in smoke on the altar. ¹⁴But ^(DA)the flesh of the bull and its hide and its refuse, you shall burn with fire outside the camp; it is a sin offering.

¹⁵“^(DB)You shall also take the one ram, and Aaron and his sons shall lay their hands on the head of the ram; ¹⁶and you shall slaughter the ram and take its blood and sprinkle it around on the altar. ¹⁷Then you shall cut the ram into its pieces, and wash its entrails and its legs, and put them ^[ej]with its pieces and ^[ek]its head. ¹⁸And you shall offer up in smoke the whole ram on the altar; it is a burnt offering to the Lord: ^(DC)it is a soothing aroma, an offering by fire to the Lord.

¹⁹“Then ^(DD)you shall take the ^[el]other ram, and Aaron and his sons shall lay their hands on the head of the ram. ²⁰And you shall slaughter the ram, and take some of its blood and put it on the lobe of Aaron’s right ear and on the lobes of his sons’ right ears, and on the thumbs of their right hands, and on the big toes of their right feet, and sprinkle the rest of the blood around on the altar. ²¹Then you shall take some of the blood that is on the altar and some of the ^(DE)anointing oil, and sprinkle it on Aaron and on his garments, and on his sons and on his sons’ garments with him; so he and his garments shall be consecrated, as well as his sons and his sons’ garments with him.

²²“You shall also take the fat from the ram and the fat tail, and the fat that covers the entrails and the ^[em]lobe of the liver, and the two kidneys and the fat that is on them, and the right thigh (for it is a ram of ^[en]ordination), ²³and one loaf of bread, and ^(DF)one cake of bread mixed with oil, and one wafer from the basket of unleavened bread which is set before the Lord; ²⁴and you shall put ^[eo]all these ^[ep]in the ^[eq]hands of Aaron and ^[er]in the ^[es]hands of his sons, and shall wave them as a wave offering before the Lord. ²⁵Then ^(DG)you shall take them from their hands, and offer them up in smoke on the altar on the burnt offering for a soothing aroma before the Lord; it is an offering by fire to the Lord.

²⁶“Then you shall take ^(DH)the breast of Aaron’s ram of ^[et]ordination, and wave it as a wave offering before the Lord; and it shall be your portion. ²⁷You shall consecrate the breast of the wave offering and the thigh of the ^[eu]contribution which was waved and which was ^[ev]offered from the ram of ^[ew]ordination, from the one which was for Aaron and from the one which was for his sons. ²⁸It shall be for Aaron and his sons as their portion forever from the sons of Israel, for it is ^[ex]a contribution; and it shall be ^[ey]a contribution from the sons of Israel from the sacrifices of their peace offerings, their ^[ez]contribution to the Lord.

²⁹“^(DI)The holy garments of Aaron shall be for his sons after him, ^[fa]so that they may be anointed and ordained in them. ³⁰For seven days the one of his sons who is priest in his place shall put them on when he enters the tent of meeting to minister in the Holy Place.

Food of the Priests

³¹“Now you shall take the ram of ^[fb]ordination and ^(DJ)boil its flesh in a holy place. ³²Then Aaron and his sons shall eat the flesh of the ram and the bread that is in the basket, at the doorway of the tent of meeting. ³³So ^(DK)they shall eat ^[fc]those things by which atonement was made ^[fd]at their ordination and consecration; but a ^[fe]^(DL)layman shall not eat them, because they are holy. ³⁴And ^(DM)if any of the flesh of ^[ff]ordination or any of the bread remains until morning, then you shall burn the remainder with fire; it shall not be eaten, because it is holy.

³⁵“So you shall do for Aaron and for his sons, according to all that I have commanded you; you shall ^[fg]ordain them for ^(DN)seven days. ³⁶^(DO)Each day you shall offer a bull as a sin offering for atonement, and you shall ^[fh]purify the altar when you make atonement ^[fi]for it, and ^(DP)you shall anoint it to consecrate it. ³⁷For seven days you shall make atonement ^[fj]for the altar and consecrate it; then ^(DQ)the altar shall be most holy, and whatever touches the altar shall be holy.

³⁸“Now ^(DR)this is what you shall offer on the altar: two one-year-old lambs each day, continuously. ³⁹The ^(DS)one lamb you shall offer in the morning, and the ^[fk]other lamb you shall offer at ^[fl]twilight; ⁴⁰and there shall be a ^[fm]tenth of an ephah of fine flour mixed with a ^[fn]fourth of a hin of beaten oil, and a fourth of a hin of wine for a drink offering with one lamb. ⁴¹The ^[fo]other lamb you shall offer at ^[fp]twilight, and shall offer with it ^[fq]the same grain offering and ^[fr]the same drink offering as in the morning, for a soothing aroma, an offering by fire to the Lord. ⁴²It shall be a continual burnt offering throughout your generations at the doorway of the tent of meeting before the Lord, ^(DT)where I will meet with you, to speak to you there. ⁴³I will meet there with the sons of Israel, and it shall be consecrated by My glory. ⁴⁴I will consecrate the tent of meeting and the altar; I will also consecrate Aaron and his sons to serve as priests to Me. ⁴⁵And ^(DU)I will dwell among the sons of Israel and will be their God. ⁴⁶And they shall know that ^(DV)I am the Lord their God who brought them out of the land of Egypt, so that I might dwell among them; I am the Lord their God.

The Altar of Incense

30 “Now you shall make ^(DW)an altar as a place for burning incense; you shall make it of acacia wood. ²Its length shall be ^[fs]a cubit, and its width a cubit; it shall be square, and its height shall be two cubits; its horns shall be ^[ft]of one piece with it. ³You shall overlay it with pure gold, its top and its ^[fu]sides all around, and its horns; and you shall make a gold molding all around for it. ⁴You shall also make two gold rings for it under its molding; you shall make them on its two sides—on ^[fv]opposite sides—and ^[fw]they shall be holders for poles with which to carry it. ⁵And you shall make the poles of acacia wood and overlay them with gold. ⁶You shall put ^[fx]this altar in front of the veil that is ^[fy]near the ark of the testimony, in front of the ^[fz]^(DX)atoning cover that is over the ark of the testimony, where I will meet with you. ⁷Aaron shall burn fragrant incense on it; he shall burn it every morning when he trims the lamps. ⁸And when Aaron sets up the lamps at ^[ga]twilight, he shall burn incense. There shall be perpetual incense before the Lord throughout your generations. ⁹You shall not offer any ^[gb]strange incense on ^[gc]this altar, or burnt offering, or meal offering; and you shall not pour out a drink offering on it. ¹⁰However, Aaron shall ^(DY)make atonement on its horns once a year; he shall make atonement on it with the blood of the sin offering of atonement once a year throughout your generations. It is most holy to the Lord.”

¹¹The Lord also spoke to Moses, saying, ¹²“When you take ^(DZ)a ^[gd]census of the sons of Israel ^[ge]to count them, then each one of them shall give ^(EA)a ransom for ^[gf]himself to the Lord, when you ^[gg]count them, so that there will be no plague among them when you ^[gh]count them. ¹³This is what everyone who ^[gi]is counted shall give: half a ^[gj]shekel according to the shekel of the sanctuary (^(EB)the shekel is twenty gerahs), half a shekel as a ^[gk]contribution to the Lord. ¹⁴Everyone who ^[gl]is counted, from twenty years old and over, shall give the ^[gm]contribution to the Lord. ¹⁵The rich shall not pay more, and the poor shall not pay less, than the half shekel, when you give the ^[gn]contribution to the Lord to make atonement for ^[go]yourselves. ¹⁶And you shall take the atonement money from the sons of Israel and give it for the service of the tent of meeting, so that it may be a memorial for the sons of Israel before the Lord, to make atonement for ^[gp]yourselves.”

¹⁷Then the Lord spoke to Moses, saying, ¹⁸“You shall also make ^(EC)a basin of ^[gq]bronze, with its base of bronze, for washing; and you shall ^(ED)put it between the tent of meeting and the altar, and you shall put water in it. ¹⁹Aaron and his sons shall ^(EE)wash their hands and their feet from it; ²⁰when they enter the tent of meeting, they shall wash with water, so that they do not die; or when they approach the altar to minister, by offering up in smoke a fire sacrifice to the Lord. ²¹So they shall wash their hands and their feet, so that they do not die; and ^(EF)it shall be a permanent statute for them, for ^[gr]Aaron and his ^[gs]descendants throughout their generations.”

The Anointing Oil

²²Moreover, the Lord spoke to Moses, saying, ²³“Take also for yourself the finest of spices: of liquid myrrh ^[gt]five hundred shekels, and of fragrant cinnamon half as much, 250, and of fragrant cane 250, ²⁴and of cassia 500, according to the shekel of the sanctuary, and of olive oil a ^[gu]hin. ²⁵You shall make ^[gv]from these a holy anointing oil, a fragrant mixture of ointments, the work of a perfumer; it shall be ^(EG)a holy anointing oil. ²⁶And ^(EH)you shall anoint the tent of meeting with it, and the ark of the testimony, ²⁷and the table and all its utensils, and the lampstand and its utensils, and the altar of incense, ²⁸and the altar of burnt offering and all its utensils, and the basin and its stand. ²⁹You shall also consecrate them, so that they may be most holy; whatever touches them shall be holy. ³⁰And ^(EI)you shall anoint Aaron and his sons, and consecrate them, so that they may serve as priests to Me. ³¹Furthermore, you shall speak to the sons of Israel, saying, ‘This shall be a holy anointing oil to Me throughout your generations. ³²It shall not be poured on ^[gw]anyone’s body, nor shall you make any like it in ^[gx]the same proportions; ^(EJ)it is holy, and it shall be holy to you. ³³^(EK)Whoever mixes any like it or whoever puts any of it on a ^[gy]layman ^[gz]^(EL)shall be cut off from his people.’”

The Incense

³⁴Then the Lord said to Moses, “Take for yourself spices—stacte, onycha, and galbanum, spices and pure frankincense; there shall be an equal part of each. ³⁵You shall make incense from it all, a skillful mixture, the work of a perfumer, salted, pure, and holy. ³⁶And you shall crush some of it very fine, and put part of it in front of the testimony in the tent of meeting ^(EM)where I will meet with you; it shall be most holy to you. ³⁷And the incense which you shall make, ^(EN)you shall not make in ^[ha]the same proportions for yourselves; it shall be holy to you for the Lord. ³⁸^(EO)Whoever makes any like it, to ^[hb]use as perfume, ^[hc]shall be cut off from his people.”

The Skilled Craftsmen

31 ^(EP)Now the Lord spoke to Moses, saying, ²“See, I have called by name Bezalel, the ^(EQ)son of Uri, the son of Hur, of the tribe of Judah. ³And I have ^(ER)filled him with the Spirit of God in wisdom, in understanding, in knowledge, and in all kinds of ^[hd]craftsmanship, ⁴to create ^[he]artistic designs for work in gold, in silver, and in ^[hf]bronze, ⁵and in the cutting of stones ^[hg]for settings, and in the carving of wood, so that he may work in all kinds of ^[hh]craftsmanship. ⁶And behold, I Myself have ^[hi]appointed with him ^(ES)Oholiab, the son of Ahisamach, of the tribe of Dan; and in the hearts of all who are ^[hj]skillful I have put ^[hk]skill, so that they may make everything that I have commanded you: ⁷^(ET)the tent of meeting, ^(EU)the ark of testimony, ^(EV)the ^[hl]atoning cover that is on it, and all the furniture of the tent, ⁸^(EW)the table and its ^[hm]utensils, the ^(EX)pure gold lampstand with all its ^[hn]utensils, and ^(EY)the altar of incense, ⁹^(EZ)the altar of burnt offering with all its ^[ho]utensils, and ^(FA)the basin and its stand, ¹⁰the ^[hp]^(FB)woven garments as well: the holy garments for Aaron the priest and the garments of his sons, with which to ^[hq]carry out their priesthood; ¹¹^(FC)the anointing oil also, and the ^(FD)fragrant incense for the Holy Place, they are to make them according to everything that I have commanded you.”

The Sign of the Sabbath

¹²Now the Lord spoke to Moses, saying, ¹³“Now as for you, speak to the sons of Israel, saying, ‘^(FE)You must keep My Sabbaths; for this is ^(FF)a sign between Me and you throughout your generations, so that you may know that I am the Lord who sanctifies you. ¹⁴Therefore you are to keep the Sabbath, for it is holy to you. ^(FG)Everyone who profanes it must be put to death; for whoever does any work on it, that person shall be cut off from among his people. ¹⁵^(FH)For six days work may be done, but on the seventh day there is a ^(FI)Sabbath of complete rest, holy to the Lord; ^(FJ)whoever does any work on the Sabbath day must be put to death. ¹⁶So the sons of Israel shall keep the Sabbath, to ^[hr]celebrate the Sabbath throughout their generations as a permanent covenant.’ ¹⁷^(FK)It is a sign between Me and the sons of Israel forever; ^(FL)for in six days the Lord made heaven and earth, but on the seventh day He ceased from labor, and was refreshed.”

¹⁸When He had finished speaking with him on Mount Sinai, He gave Moses ^(FM)the two tablets of the testimony, tablets of stone, ^(FN)written by the finger of God.
