^12 (A)“Honor your father and your mother, ^(B)that your days may be long in the land that the Lord your God is giving you.

³ He answered them, “And why do you break the commandment of God for the sake of your tradition? ⁴ For God commanded, ^(A)‘Honor your father and your mother,’ and, ^(B)‘Whoever reviles father or mother must surely die.’ ⁵ But you say, ‘If anyone tells his father or his mother, “What you would have gained from me is given to God,”^{[a] 6} he need not honor his father.’ So for the sake of your tradition you have ^(C)made void the word^[b] of God.

³³ And he answered them, “Who are my mother and my brothers?” ³⁴ And ^(A)looking about at those who sat around him, he said, “Here are my mother and my brothers! ^35 (B)For whoever ^(C)does the will of God, he is my brother and sister and mother.”

Instructions for the Church

5 ^(A)Do not rebuke an older man but encourage him as you would a father, ^(B)younger men as brothers, ² older women as mothers, younger women as sisters, in all purity.
