Bitter Water Made Sweet
22 Then Moses ordered Israel to set out from the Red Sea,[a] and they went into the wilderness of Shur. They went three days in the wilderness and found no water. 23 When they came to Marah, they could not drink the water of Marah because it was bitter. That is why it was called Marah.[b] 24 And the people complained against Moses, saying, “What shall we drink?” 25 He cried out to the Lord; and the Lord showed him a piece of wood;[c] he threw it into the water, and the water became sweet.
There the Lord[d] made for them a statute and an ordinance and there he put them to the test. 26 He said, “If you will listen carefully to the voice of the Lord your God, and do what is right in his sight, and give heed to his commandments and keep all his statutes, I will not bring upon you any of the diseases that I brought upon the Egyptians; for I am the Lord who heals you.”
27 Then they came to Elim, where there were twelve springs of water and seventy palm trees; and they camped there by the water.
Bread from Heaven
16 The whole congregation of the Israelites set out from Elim; and Israel came to the wilderness of Sin, which is between Elim and Sinai, on the fifteenth day of the second month after they had departed from the land of Egypt.

Mosè lo gettò nell’acqua, e l’acqua divenne dolce. È lì che il Signore diede al popolo una legge e una prescrizione, e lo mise alla prova, dicendo: 26 «Se tu ascolti attentamente la voce del Signore che è il tuo Dio, e fai ciò che è giusto agli occhi suoi, porgi orecchio ai suoi comandamenti e osservi tutte le sue leggi, io non ti infliggerò nessuna delle infermità che ho inflitte agli Egiziani, perché io sono il Signore, colui che ti guarisce».
27 Poi giunsero a Elim, dov’erano dodici sorgenti d’acqua e settanta palme; e si accamparono lì presso le acque.

16 (C)Tutta la comunità dei figli d’Israele partì da Elim e giunse al deserto di Sin, che è tra Elim e il Sinai, il quindicesimo giorno del secondo mese dopo la loro partenza dal paese d’Egitto.

22 Danach ließ Mose Israel vom Schilfmeer aufbrechen, dass sie zur Wüste Sur zogen; und sie wanderten drei Tage lang in der Wüste und fanden kein Wasser.
23 Da kamen sie nach Mara; aber sie konnten das Wasser von Mara nicht trinken, denn es war sehr bitter. Daher nannte man es Mara[a].
24 Da murrte das Volk gegen Mose und sprach: Was sollen wir trinken?
25 Er aber schrie zum Herrn, und der Herr zeigte ihm ein Holz; das warf er ins Wasser, da wurde das Wasser süß. Dort gab er ihnen Gesetz und Recht, und dort prüfte er sie;
26 und er sprach: Wenn du der Stimme des Herrn, deines Gottes, eifrig gehorchen wirst und tust, was vor ihm recht ist, und seine Gebote zu Ohren fasst und alle seine Satzungen hältst, so will ich keine der Krankheiten auf dich legen, die ich auf Ägypten gelegt habe; denn ich bin der Herr, dein Arzt[b]!
27 Und sie kamen nach Elim; dort waren 12 Wasserquellen und 70 Palmbäume; und sie lagerten sich dort am Wasser.

22 Ezután útnak indította Mózes Izráelt a Vörös-tengertől, és Súr pusztája felé vonultak. Már három napja mentek a pusztában, és nem találtak vizet.
23 Megérkeztek Márába, de nem tudták meginni a vizet Márában, mert keserű volt. Ezért is nevezték el azt a helyet Márának.
24 Ekkor zúgolódni kezdett a nép Mózes ellen, és ezt mondta: Mit igyunk?
25 Ő pedig az Úrhoz kiáltott segítségért, és az Úr mutatott neki egy fát. Azt dobta bele a vízbe, és édessé vált a víz. Ott adott a népnek rendelkezéseket és törvényeket, és ott tette próbára őket.

22 Sur ordre de Moïse, Israël quitta la mer des Roseaux et prit la direction du désert de Shour[a]. Ils marchèrent pendant trois jours dans le désert sans trouver de point d’eau. 23 Ils arrivèrent à Mara[b] où il y avait de l’eau, mais ils ne purent pas en boire parce qu’elle était amère – d’où le nom de Mara (Amertume). 24 Alors le peuple se plaignit de Moïse en disant : Qu’allons-nous boire ?
25 Moïse implora l’Eternel, qui lui indiqua un bois d’une certaine espèce qu’il jeta dans l’eau, et l’eau devint potable.
C’est à cet endroit que l’Eternel donna au peuple des préceptes et un code de droit ; là aussi il le mit à l’épreuve. 26 Il leur dit : Si vous écoutez attentivement l’Eternel votre Dieu, et si vous faites ce qui est droit à ses yeux, si vous êtes attentifs à ses commandements et si vous obéissez à toutes ses lois, je ne vous infligerai aucune des maladies dont j’ai frappé les Egyptiens ; car je suis l’Eternel qui vous apporte la guérison.
27 Ensuite, les Israélites arrivèrent à Elim[c] où il y avait douze sources d’eau et soixante-dix palmiers. Ils campèrent là près de l’eau.
Dans le désert de Sin : les cailles et la manne
16 Toute la communauté des Israélites quitta Elim et, le quinzième jour du second mois qui suivit leur sortie d’Egypte, les Israélites arrivèrent au désert de Sin[d], qui s’étend entre Elim et le Sinaï.
