The Fifth Plague: Livestock Diseased
9 Then the Lord said to Moses, “Go to Pharaoh, and say to him, ‘Thus says the Lord, the God of the Hebrews: Let my people go, so that they may worship me. 2 For if you refuse to let them go and still hold them, 3 the hand of the Lord will strike with a deadly pestilence your livestock in the field: the horses, the donkeys, the camels, the herds, and the flocks. 4 But the Lord will make a distinction between the livestock of Israel and the livestock of Egypt, so that nothing shall die of all that belongs to the Israelites.’” 5 The Lord set a time, saying, “Tomorrow the Lord will do this thing in the land.” 6 And on the next day the Lord did so; all the livestock of the Egyptians died, but of the livestock of the Israelites not one died. 7 Pharaoh inquired and found that not one of the livestock of the Israelites was dead. But the heart of Pharaoh was hardened, and he would not let the people go.
The Sixth Plague: Boils
8 Then the Lord said to Moses and Aaron, “Take handfuls of soot from the kiln, and let Moses throw it in the air in the sight of Pharaoh. 9 It shall become fine dust all over the land of Egypt, and shall cause festering boils on humans and animals throughout the whole land of Egypt.” 10 So they took soot from the kiln, and stood before Pharaoh, and Moses threw it in the air, and it caused festering boils on humans and animals. 11 The magicians could not stand before Moses because of the boils, for the boils afflicted the magicians as well as all the Egyptians. 12 But the Lord hardened the heart of Pharaoh, and he would not listen to them, just as the Lord had spoken to Moses.
The Seventh Plague: Thunder and Hail
13 Then the Lord said to Moses, “Rise up early in the morning and present yourself before Pharaoh, and say to him, ‘Thus says the Lord, the God of the Hebrews: Let my people go, so that they may worship me. 14 For this time I will send all my plagues upon you yourself, and upon your officials, and upon your people, so that you may know that there is no one like me in all the earth. 15 For by now I could have stretched out my hand and struck you and your people with pestilence, and you would have been cut off from the earth. 16 But this is why I have let you live: to show you my power, and to make my name resound through all the earth. 17 You are still exalting yourself against my people, and will not let them go. 18 Tomorrow at this time I will cause the heaviest hail to fall that has ever fallen in Egypt from the day it was founded until now. 19 Send, therefore, and have your livestock and everything that you have in the open field brought to a secure place; every human or animal that is in the open field and is not brought under shelter will die when the hail comes down upon them.’” 20 Those officials of Pharaoh who feared the word of the Lord hurried their slaves and livestock off to a secure place. 21 Those who did not regard the word of the Lord left their slaves and livestock in the open field.
22 The Lord said to Moses, “Stretch out your hand toward heaven so that hail may fall on the whole land of Egypt, on humans and animals and all the plants of the field in the land of Egypt.” 23 Then Moses stretched out his staff toward heaven, and the Lord sent thunder and hail, and fire came down on the earth. And the Lord rained hail on the land of Egypt; 24 there was hail with fire flashing continually in the midst of it, such heavy hail as had never fallen in all the land of Egypt since it became a nation. 25 The hail struck down everything that was in the open field throughout all the land of Egypt, both human and animal; the hail also struck down all the plants of the field, and shattered every tree in the field. 26 Only in the land of Goshen, where the Israelites were, there was no hail.
27 Then Pharaoh summoned Moses and Aaron, and said to them, “This time I have sinned; the Lord is in the right, and I and my people are in the wrong. 28 Pray to the Lord! Enough of God’s thunder and hail! I will let you go; you need stay no longer.” 29 Moses said to him, “As soon as I have gone out of the city, I will stretch out my hands to the Lord; the thunder will cease, and there will be no more hail, so that you may know that the earth is the Lord’s. 30 But as for you and your officials, I know that you do not yet fear the Lord God.” 31 (Now the flax and the barley were ruined, for the barley was in the ear and the flax was in bud. 32 But the wheat and the spelt were not ruined, for they are late in coming up.) 33 So Moses left Pharaoh, went out of the city, and stretched out his hands to the Lord; then the thunder and the hail ceased, and the rain no longer poured down on the earth. 34 But when Pharaoh saw that the rain and the hail and the thunder had ceased, he sinned once more and hardened his heart, he and his officials. 35 So the heart of Pharaoh was hardened, and he would not let the Israelites go, just as the Lord had spoken through Moses.

9 (A)Allora il Signore disse a Mosè: «Va’ dal faraone e digli: “Così dice il Signore, il Dio degli Ebrei: ‘Lascia andare il mio popolo, perché mi serva. 2 Se tu rifiuti di lasciarlo andare e lo trattieni ancora, 3 la mano del Signore sarà sul tuo bestiame che è nei campi, sui cavalli, sugli asini, sui cammelli, sui buoi e sulle pecore; ci sarà una tremenda mortalità. 4 Però il Signore farà distinzione tra il bestiame d’Israele e il bestiame d’Egitto; nulla morirà di tutto quello che appartiene ai figli d’Israele’”». 5 Il Signore fissò un termine, dicendo: «Domani il Signore farà questo nel paese». 6 L’indomani il Signore lo fece e tutto il bestiame d’Egitto morì; ma del bestiame dei figli d’Israele non morì neppure un capo. 7 Il faraone mandò a vedere, ed ecco che neppure un capo del bestiame degli Israeliti era morto. Ma il cuore del faraone rimase ostinato ed egli non lasciò andare il popolo.
Ulceri sulle persone e sugli animali
8 (B)Il Signore disse a Mosè e ad Aaronne: «Prendete delle manciate di fuliggine di fornace e Mosè la getti verso il cielo, sotto gli occhi del faraone. 9 Essa diventerà una polvere che coprirà tutto il paese d’Egitto e produrrà ulceri che si trasformeranno in pustole sulle persone e sugli animali in tutto il paese d’Egitto». 10 Essi presero dunque della fuliggine di fornace e si presentarono al faraone; Mosè la gettò verso il cielo ed essa produsse ulceri che si trasformarono in pustole sulle persone e sugli animali. 11 I maghi non poterono presentarsi davanti a Mosè, a causa delle ulceri, perché le ulceri erano sui maghi come su tutti gli Egiziani. 12 Ma il Signore indurì il cuore del faraone e questi non diede ascolto a Mosè e ad Aaronne, come il Signore aveva detto a Mosè.
La grandine e il fuoco
13 (C)Poi il Signore disse a Mosè: «Àlzati di buon mattino, presentati al faraone e digli: “Così dice il Signore, il Dio degli Ebrei: ‘Lascia andare il mio popolo, perché mi serva; 14 poiché questa volta manderò tutte le mie piaghe sul tuo cuore, sui tuoi servitori e sul tuo popolo, affinché tu sappia che nessuno è come me su tutta la terra. 15 Perché se io avessi steso la mia mano e avessi percosso di peste te e il tuo popolo, tu saresti stato sterminato dalla terra. 16 Invece io ti ho lasciato vivere per questo: per mostrarti la mia potenza e perché il mio nome sia proclamato su tutta la terra[a]. 17 Ti opponi ancora al mio popolo per non lasciarlo andare? 18 Ecco, domani verso quest’ora, io farò cadere una grandine così forte che non ce ne fu mai di simile in Egitto, dal giorno della sua fondazione, fino ad oggi. 19 Or dunque, fa’ mettere al riparo il tuo bestiame e tutto quello che hai nei campi. La grandine cadrà su tutta la gente, su tutti gli animali che si troveranno nei campi e che non saranno stati raccolti in casa, ed essi moriranno’”». 20 Tra i servitori del faraone, quelli che temettero la parola del Signore fecero rifugiare nelle case i loro servi e il loro bestiame, 21 ma quelli che non tennero conto della parola del Signore lasciarono i loro servi e il loro bestiame nei campi.

Io vi lascerò andare e non sarete più trattenuti». 29 Mosè gli disse: «Quando uscirò dalla città, tenderò le mani verso il Signore; i tuoni cesseranno e non ci sarà più grandine, affinché tu sappia che la terra è del Signore. 30 Ma quanto a te e ai tuoi servitori io so che ancora non temerete Dio il Signore». 31 Ora il lino e l’orzo erano stati colpiti, perché l’orzo era in spiga e il lino in fiore; 32 ma il grano e la spelta non furono colpiti, perché tardivi. 33 Mosè dunque, lasciato il faraone, uscì dalla città, tese le mani verso il Signore e i tuoni e la grandine cessarono e non cadde più pioggia sulla terra. 34 Quando il faraone vide che la pioggia, la grandine e i tuoni erano cessati, continuò a peccare, si ostinò in cuor suo, lui e i suoi servitori. 35 Il cuore del faraone si indurì ed egli non lasciò andare i figli d’Israele, come il Signore aveva detto per bocca di Mosè.

9 Da sprach der Herr zu Mose: Geh hinein zum Pharao und sprich zu ihm: So spricht der Herr, der Gott der Hebräer: »Lass mein Volk ziehen, damit es mir dient!
2 Denn wenn du dich weigerst, sie ziehen zu lassen, und sie weiter aufhältst,
3 siehe, so wird die Hand des Herrn über dein Vieh auf dem Feld kommen, über Pferde, Esel, Kamele, Rinder und Schafe, mit einer sehr schweren Viehseuche.
4 Und der Herr wird einen Unterschied machen zwischen dem Vieh Israels und dem Vieh der Ägypter, sodass von allem, was den Kindern Israels gehört, kein einziges sterben wird!«
5 Und der Herr bestimmte eine Zeit und sprach: Morgen wird der Herr dies im Land tun!
6 Und der Herr tat dies am Morgen, und alles Vieh der Ägypter starb, aber von dem Vieh der Kinder Israels starb kein einziges.
7 Und der Pharao sandte Boten hin, und siehe, von dem Vieh Israels war nicht eines gestorben. Gleichwohl blieb das Herz des Pharao verhärtet, sodass er das Volk nicht ziehen ließ.
Die sechste Plage: Geschwüre
8 Da sprach der Herr zu Mose und Aaron: Nehmt eure Hände voll Ofenruß, und Mose soll ihn zum Himmel werfen vor dem Pharao!
9 Dann wird er über dem ganzen Land Ägypten zu Staub werden, und er wird zu Geschwüren werden, die als Blattern aufbrechen an Menschen und Vieh im ganzen Land Ägypten.
10 Da nahmen sie Ofenruß und traten vor den Pharao, und Mose warf ihn zum Himmel. Da wurden Geschwüre daraus, die als Blattern aufbrachen an Menschen und Vieh,
11 sodass die Zauberer nicht vor Mose treten konnten wegen der Geschwüre. Denn die Geschwüre waren an den Zauberern ebenso wie an allen anderen Ägyptern.
12 Aber der Herr verstockte das Herz des Pharao, dass er nicht auf sie hörte, so wie der Herr es Mose gesagt hatte.
Die siebte Plage: Hagel
13 Da sprach der Herr zu Mose: Mache dich am Morgen früh auf und tritt vor den Pharao und sprich zu ihm: So spricht der Herr, der Gott der Hebräer: »Lass mein Volk ziehen, damit es mir dient!
14 Sonst will ich diesmal alle meine Plagen gegen dein Herz richten und gegen deine Knechte und gegen dein Volk, damit du erkennst, dass auf der ganzen Erde nicht meinesgleichen ist.
15 Denn ich hätte meine Hand schon ausstrecken und dich und dein Volk mit der Pest schlagen können, dass du von der Erde vertilgt worden wärst;
16 aber ich habe dich eben dazu bestehen lassen, dass ich an dir meine Macht erweise und dass mein Name verkündigt werde auf der ganzen Erde.
17 Wenn du dich aber meinem Volk noch weiter entgegenstellst und es nicht ziehen lassen willst,
18 siehe, so will ich morgen um diese Zeit einen sehr schweren Hagel fallen lassen, wie er in Ägypten bisher nicht gewesen ist seit der Zeit, da es gegründet wurde, bis jetzt.
19 Und nun lass dein Vieh und alles, was du auf dem Feld hast, in Sicherheit bringen; denn auf alle Menschen und alles Vieh, die sich auf dem Feld befinden und nicht in den Häusern versammelt sind, auf die wird der Hagel fallen, und sie werden umkommen!«
20 Wer nun von den Knechten des Pharao das Wort des Herrn fürchtete, der ließ seine Knechte und sein Vieh in die Häuser fliehen;
21 diejenigen aber, die sich das Wort des Herrn nicht zu Herzen nahmen, die ließen ihre Knechte und ihr Vieh auf dem Feld.
22 Da sprach der Herr zu Mose: Strecke deine Hand aus zum Himmel, damit Hagel im ganzen Land Ägypten fällt, über die Menschen und über das Vieh und über alles Gewächs auf dem Feld im Land Ägypten!
23 So streckte Mose seinen Stab zum Himmel. Und der Herr ließ es donnern und hageln, dass das Feuer zur Erde niederfuhr. Und der Herr ließ Hagel regnen auf das Land Ägypten.
24 Es war aber zugleich Hagel und ein unaufhörliches Blitzen mitten in den Hagel hinein, so stark, dass etwas Derartiges im ganzen Land Ägypten niemals vorgekommen war, seitdem es bevölkert ist.
25 Und der Hagel erschlug im ganzen Land Ägypten alles, was auf dem Feld war, vom Menschen bis zum Vieh. Auch zerschlug der Hagel alles Gewächs auf dem Feld und zerbrach alle Bäume auf dem Land.
26 Nur im Land Gosen, wo die Kinder Israels waren, hagelte es nicht.
27 Da sandte der Pharao hin und ließ Mose und Aaron rufen und sprach zu ihnen: Diesmal habe ich mich versündigt! Der Herr ist gerecht; ich aber und mein Volk sind schuldig!
28 Bittet aber den Herrn, dass es nun genug sei mit dem Donner Gottes und dem Hagel; so will ich euch ziehen lassen, und ihr sollt nicht länger hierbleiben!
29 Da sprach Mose zu ihm: Wenn ich zur Stadt hinauskomme, so will ich meine Hände zum Herrn ausstrecken; dann wird der Donner aufhören und kein Hagel mehr sein, damit du erkennst, dass die Erde dem Herrn gehört!
30 Ich weiß aber, dass ihr, du und deine Knechte, euch vor Gott, dem Herrn, noch nicht fürchtet.
31 Es waren aber der Flachs und die Gerste zerschlagen; denn die Gerste hatte Ähren und der Flachs Knospen getrieben.
32 Aber der Weizen und der Spelt[a] waren nicht zerschlagen; denn die wachsen später.
33 Nun ging Mose vom Pharao weg zur Stadt hinaus und streckte seine Hand aus zum Herrn, und der Donner und der Hagel ließen nach, und der Regen fiel nicht mehr auf die Erde.
34 Als aber der Pharao sah, dass der Regen, der Hagel und der Donner nachließen, versündigte er sich weiter und verhärtete sein Herz, er und seine Knechte.
35 So wurde das Herz des Pharao verstockt, dass er die Kinder Israels nicht ziehen ließ, so wie der Herr durch Mose geredet hatte.

9 Azután azt mondta az Úr Mózesnek, hogy menjen be a fáraóhoz, és így beszéljen vele: Így szól az Úr, a héberek Istene: Bocsásd el népemet, hogy szolgáljon nekem!
2 Mert ha nem akarod elbocsátani, és még mindig visszatartod őket,
3 akkor megveri az Úr a mezőn levő jószágodat, a lovakat, szamarakat, tevéket, marhákat és juhokat: igen nagy dögvész lesz.
4 De különbséget tesz az Úr Izráel jószága és az egyiptomiak jószága között, és egy sem pusztul el abból, ami Izráel fiaié.
5 Határidőt is szabott az Úr: Holnap cselekszi meg az Úr mindezt az országban.

10 Vették azért a kemencekormot, odaálltak a fáraó elé, és Mózes az ég felé szórta azt. Ekkor hólyagos fekélyek támadtak az embereken és állatokon.
11 A mágusok már oda sem tudtak állni Mózes elé a fekélyek miatt, mert fekélyek keletkeztek a mágusokon is és minden egyiptomin.
12 De megkeményítette az Úr a fáraó szívét, és nem hallgatott rájuk - ahogyan megmondta az Úr Mózesnek.
A hetedik csapás: A jégeső
13 Ezután azt mondta az Úr Mózesnek, hogy álljon oda korán reggel a fáraó elé, és ezt mondja neki: Így szól az Úr, a héberek Istene: Bocsásd el népemet, hogy szolgálhassanak nekem!
14 Mert ezúttal minden csapásomat rád bocsátom, meg szolgáidra és népedre, hogy megtudd: Nincs hozzám hasonló az egész földön!
15 Mert már kinyújtottam a kezemet, és megvertelek téged és népedet dögvésszel úgy, hogy kipusztulhattál volna a földről.
16 De mégis megtartottalak, hogy megmutassam neked az erőmet, és hirdessék nevemet az egész földön.
17 Ha továbbra is gátolod népemet, és nem bocsátod el,
18 akkor én holnap ilyenkor olyan nagy jégesőt zúdítok le, melyhez hasonló nem volt Egyiptomban alapítása napjától fogva mostanáig.

9 L’Eternel dit à Moïse : Va trouver le pharaon et déclare-lui : « Voici ce qu’ordonne l’Eternel, le Dieu des Hébreux : Laisse aller mon peuple, pour qu’il me rende un culte ! 2 Si tu refuses encore de le laisser partir, si tu persistes à le retenir, 3 l’Eternel interviendra contre ton bétail qui est dans les champs, contre les chevaux, les ânes, les chameaux, le gros et le petit bétail ; il leur enverra une grave épidémie. 4 Mais l’Eternel fera une différence entre le bétail des Israélites et celui des Egyptiens : aucune bête appartenant aux Israélites ne mourra. »
5 L’Eternel fixa une échéance en disant : Demain je mettrai cela à exécution dans le pays.
6 Le lendemain, en effet, l’Eternel fit ce qu’il avait dit : tout le bétail des Egyptiens périt, mais pas une bête des Israélites ne fut atteinte. 7 Le pharaon envoya ses gens s’enquérir de la chose et l’on constata qu’aucune bête des Israélites n’avait péri. 8 L’Eternel dit à Moïse et à Aaron : Prenez à pleines mains de la cendre d’un fourneau, et que Moïse la lance en l’air, sous les yeux du pharaon. 9 Cette cendre se transformera en poussière qui se répandra sur toute l’Egypte. Hommes et bêtes en seront couverts et elle provoquera, dans tout le pays, des éruptions évoluant en ulcères[a] purulents.
10 Les deux hommes prirent de la cendre d’un fourneau et se présentèrent devant le pharaon. 13 L’Eternel ordonna à Moïse : Va de bon matin te présenter devant le pharaon et dis-lui : « Voici ce que t’ordonne l’Eternel, le Dieu des Hébreux : Laisse aller mon peuple pour qu’il me rende un culte. 14 Car cette fois-ci, je vais déchaîner toutes sortes de fléaux contre ta personne, contre tes hauts fonctionnaires et contre tes sujets, afin que tu saches que nul n’est semblable à moi sur toute la terre. 15 J’aurais pu tout de suite te frapper de la peste, ainsi que tes sujets, et tu aurais déjà disparu de la terre ! 16 Mais voici pourquoi je t’ai laissé en vie : c’est pour te faire voir ma puissance et pour que ma renommée se répande par toute la terre[c]. 17 Tu persistes à t’opposer au départ de mon peuple. 18 Soit ! Demain à la même heure, je ferai pleuvoir une grêle si violente qu’il n’y en a jamais eu de semblable dans toute l’histoire de l’Egypte. 19 Maintenant, fais mettre à l’abri ton bétail et tout ce que tu as aux champs. Car tous ceux qui se trouveront en plein champ, qui n’auront pas regagné leur demeure, hommes ou bêtes, périront victimes de la grêle. »
20 Ceux des hauts fonctionnaires du pharaon qui prirent au sérieux la parole de l’Eternel, firent mettre en hâte leurs serviteurs et leur bétail à l’abri dans leurs maisons. 21 Mais ceux qui n’y prêtèrent pas attention laissèrent les leurs dans les champs.
22 L’Eternel dit à Moïse : Etends la main vers le ciel et que la grêle s’abatte sur toute l’Egypte, sur les hommes, les bêtes et toute la végétation dans le pays.
23 Moïse leva son bâton vers le ciel et l’Eternel déchaîna le tonnerre et la grêle, et la foudre s’abattit sur la terre. L’Eternel fit tomber la grêle sur l’Egypte. 24 Des éclairs jaillissaient au milieu de la grêle et la grêle était si violente qu’il n’y en avait jamais eu de semblable dans toute l’Egypte depuis que la nation existe. 25 Dans l’ensemble du pays, la grêle frappa tout ce qui se trouvait aux champs, hommes ou bêtes. Elle hacha toute la végétation et brisa tous les arbres. 26 Seule la région de Goshen où habitaient les Israélites fut épargnée.
27 Alors le pharaon fit convoquer Moïse et Aaron et leur dit : Cette fois-ci, je reconnais que j’ai péché. C’est l’Eternel qui est juste, moi et mon peuple nous sommes coupables ! 28 Priez l’Eternel de faire cesser le tonnerre et la grêle, et je vous laisserai partir, on ne vous retiendra pas davantage.
29 Moïse dit : En quittant la ville, je lèverai les mains vers l’Eternel pour prier. Le tonnerre cessera et la grêle s’arrêtera, afin que tu saches que la terre appartient à l’Eternel. 30 Quant à toi et à tes hauts fonctionnaires, je sais que vous ne craindrez encore pas l’Eternel Dieu.
31 Le lin et l’orge avaient été détruits, car l’orge était en épis et le lin en fleurs[d], 32 mais le blé et l’épeautre qui étaient plus tardifs n’avaient pas souffert.
33 Moïse sortit de chez le pharaon. En quittant la ville, il leva les mains vers l’Eternel pour prier ; le tonnerre et la grêle cessèrent et la pluie arrêta de tomber. 34 Quand le pharaon vit que la pluie, la grêle et le tonnerre avaient cessé, il persista dans son péché et s’entêta. Ses hauts fonctionnaires firent de même. 35 Il s’obstina et ne laissa pas partir les Israélites, comme l’Eternel l’avait annoncé par l’intermédiaire de Moïse.
