20 So Moses and Aaron did what the Lord commanded. Aaron raised the walking stick and hit the water in the Nile River. He did this in front of Pharaoh and his officials. So all the water in the river changed into blood. 21 The fish in the river died, and the river began to stink. So the Egyptians could not drink water from the river. The blood was everywhere in Egypt.
22 The magicians used their magic to do the same thing. So Pharaoh refused to listen to Moses and Aaron. This happened just as the Lord said.

New International Version
20 Moses and Aaron did just as the Lord had commanded.(A) He raised his staff in the presence of Pharaoh and his officials and struck the water of the Nile,(B) and all the water was changed into blood.(C) 21 The fish in the Nile died, and the river smelled so bad that the Egyptians could not drink its water. Blood was everywhere in Egypt.
22 But the Egyptian magicians(D) did the same things by their secret arts,(E) and Pharaoh’s heart(F) became hard; he would not listen to Moses and Aaron, just as the Lord had said.
