Moses at the Burning Bush
3 Moses was keeping the flock of his father-in-law Jethro, the priest of Midian; he led his flock beyond the wilderness, and came to Horeb, the mountain of God. 2 There the angel of the Lord appeared to him in a flame of fire out of a bush; he looked, and the bush was blazing, yet it was not consumed. 3 Then Moses said, “I must turn aside and look at this great sight, and see why the bush is not burned up.” 4 When the Lord saw that he had turned aside to see, God called to him out of the bush, “Moses, Moses!” And he said, “Here I am.” 5 Then he said, “Come no closer! Remove the sandals from your feet, for the place on which you are standing is holy ground.” 6 He said further, “I am the God of your father, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob.” And Moses hid his face, for he was afraid to look at God.
7 Then the Lord said, “I have observed the misery of my people who are in Egypt; I have heard their cry on account of their taskmasters. Indeed, I know their sufferings, 8 and I have come down to deliver them from the Egyptians, and to bring them up out of that land to a good and broad land, a land flowing with milk and honey, to the country of the Canaanites, the Hittites, the Amorites, the Perizzites, the Hivites, and the Jebusites. 9 The cry of the Israelites has now come to me; I have also seen how the Egyptians oppress them. 10 So come, I will send you to Pharaoh to bring my people, the Israelites, out of Egypt.” 11 But Moses said to God, “Who am I that I should go to Pharaoh, and bring the Israelites out of Egypt?” 12 He said, “I will be with you; and this shall be the sign for you that it is I who sent you: when you have brought the people out of Egypt, you shall worship God on this mountain.”
The Divine Name Revealed
13 But Moses said to God, “If I come to the Israelites and say to them, ‘The God of your ancestors has sent me to you,’ and they ask me, ‘What is his name?’ what shall I say to them?” 14 God said to Moses, “I am who I am.”[a] He said further, “Thus you shall say to the Israelites, ‘I am has sent me to you.’” 15 God also said to Moses, “Thus you shall say to the Israelites, ‘The Lord,[b] the God of your ancestors, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob, has sent me to you’:
This is my name forever,
and this my title for all generations.
16 Go and assemble the elders of Israel, and say to them, ‘The Lord, the God of your ancestors, the God of Abraham, of Isaac, and of Jacob, has appeared to me, saying: I have given heed to you and to what has been done to you in Egypt. 17 I declare that I will bring you up out of the misery of Egypt, to the land of the Canaanites, the Hittites, the Amorites, the Perizzites, the Hivites, and the Jebusites, a land flowing with milk and honey.’ 18 They will listen to your voice; and you and the elders of Israel shall go to the king of Egypt and say to him, ‘The Lord, the God of the Hebrews, has met with us; let us now go a three days’ journey into the wilderness, so that we may sacrifice to the Lord our God.’ 19 I know, however, that the king of Egypt will not let you go unless compelled by a mighty hand.[c] 20 So I will stretch out my hand and strike Egypt with all my wonders that I will perform in it; after that he will let you go. 21 I will bring this people into such favor with the Egyptians that, when you go, you will not go empty-handed; 22 each woman shall ask her neighbor and any woman living in the neighbor’s house for jewelry of silver and of gold, and clothing, and you shall put them on your sons and on your daughters; and so you shall plunder the Egyptians.”

3 (A)Mosè pascolava il gregge di Ietro suo suocero, sacerdote di Madian, e, guidando il gregge oltre il deserto, giunse alla montagna di Dio, a Oreb. 2 L’angelo del Signore gli apparve in una fiamma di fuoco, in mezzo a un pruno. Mosè guardò, ed ecco il pruno era tutto in fiamme, ma non si consumava.
3 Mosè disse: «Ora voglio andare da quella parte a vedere questa grande visione e come mai il pruno non si consuma!» 4 Il Signore vide che egli si era mosso per andare a vedere. Allora Dio lo chiamò di mezzo al pruno e disse: «Mosè! Mosè!» Ed egli rispose: «Eccomi». 5 Dio disse: «Non ti avvicinare qua; togliti i calzari dai piedi, perché il luogo sul quale stai è suolo sacro». 6 Poi aggiunse: «Io sono il Dio di tuo padre, il Dio di Abraamo, il Dio d’Isacco e il Dio di Giacobbe[a]». Mosè allora si nascose la faccia, perché aveva paura di guardare Dio.
7 Il Signore disse: «Ho visto, ho visto l’afflizione del mio popolo che è in Egitto e ho udito il grido che gli strappano i suoi oppressori; infatti conosco i suoi affanni. 8 Sono sceso per liberarlo dalla mano degli Egiziani e per farlo salire da quel paese in un paese buono e spazioso, in un paese nel quale scorre il latte e il miele, nel luogo dove sono i Cananei, gli Ittiti, gli Amorei, i Ferezei, gli Ivvei e i Gebusei. 9 E ora, ecco, le grida dei figli d’Israele sono giunte a me; e ho anche visto l’oppressione con cui gli Egiziani li fanno soffrire. 10 Or dunque va’; io ti mando dal faraone perché tu faccia uscire dall’Egitto il mio popolo, i figli d’Israele».
11 Mosè disse a Dio: «Chi sono io per andare dal faraone e far uscire dall’Egitto i figli d’Israele?» 12 E Dio disse: «Va’, perché io sarò con te. Questo sarà il segno che sono io che ti ho mandato: quando avrai fatto uscire il popolo dall’Egitto, voi servirete Dio su questo monte».
La missione di Mosè
13 (B)Mosè disse a Dio: «Ecco, quando sarò andato dai figli d’Israele e avrò detto loro: “Il Dio dei vostri padri mi ha mandato da voi”, se essi dicono: “Qual è il suo nome?” che cosa risponderò loro?» 14 Dio disse a Mosè: «Io sono colui che sono». Poi disse: «Dirai così ai figli d’Israele: “L’io sono mi ha mandato da voi”». 15 Dio disse ancora a Mosè: «Dirai così ai figli d’Israele: “Il Signore[b], il Dio dei vostri padri, il Dio di Abraamo, il Dio d’Isacco e il Dio di Giacobbe mi ha mandato da voi”. Tale è il mio nome in eterno; così sarò invocato di generazione in generazione. 16 Va’, raduna gli anziani d’Israele e di’ loro: “Il Signore, il Dio dei vostri padri, il Dio di Abraamo, d’Isacco e di Giacobbe mi è apparso, dicendo: ‘Certo, io vi ho visitati, ho visto quello che vi fanno in Egitto 17 e ho detto: Io vi farò uscire dall’Egitto, dove siete maltrattati, verso il paese dei Cananei, degli Ittiti, degli Amorei, dei Ferezei, degli Ivvei e dei Gebusei, in un paese nel quale scorre il latte e il miele’”. 18 Essi ubbidiranno alla tua voce e tu, con gli anziani d’Israele, andrai dal re d’Egitto e gli direte: “Il Signore, il Dio degli Ebrei, ci è venuto incontro; perciò lasciaci andare per tre giornate di cammino nel deserto, per offrire sacrifici al Signore, nostro Dio”. 19 Io so che il re d’Egitto non vi concederà di andare, se non forzato da una mano potente. 20 Io stenderò la mia mano e colpirò l’Egitto con tutti i miracoli che io farò in mezzo a esso; dopo questo, vi lascerà andare. 21 Farò sì che questo popolo trovi favore presso gli Egiziani e, quando ve ne andrete, non ve ne andrete a mani vuote; 22 ma ogni donna domanderà alla sua vicina e alla sua coinquilina degli oggetti d’argento, degli oggetti d’oro e dei vestiti. 3 Mose aber hütete die Schafe Jethros, seines Schwiegervaters, des Priesters in Midian. Und er trieb die Schafe über die Wüste hinaus und kam an den Berg Gottes, den Horeb.
2 Da erschien ihm der Engel des Herrn in einer Feuerflamme mitten aus dem Dornbusch. Und als er hinsah, siehe, da brannte der Dornbusch im Feuer, und der Dornbusch wurde doch nicht verzehrt.
3 Da sprach Mose: Ich will doch hinzutreten und diese große Erscheinung ansehen, warum der Dornbusch nicht verbrennt!
4 Als aber der Herr sah, dass er hinzutrat, um zu schauen, rief ihm Gott mitten aus dem Dornbusch zu und sprach: Mose, Mose! Er antwortete: Hier bin ich!
5 Da sprach er: Tritt nicht näher heran! Ziehe deine Schuhe aus von deinen Füßen; denn der Ort, wo du stehst, ist heiliges Land!
6 Und er sprach: Ich bin der Gott deines Vaters, der Gott Abrahams, der Gott Isaaks und der Gott Jakobs! Da verbarg Mose sein Angesicht; denn er fürchtete sich, Gott anzuschauen.
7 Und der Herr sprach: Ich habe das Elend meines Volkes in Ägypten sehr wohl gesehen, und ich habe ihr Geschrei gehört über die, welche sie antreiben; ja, ich kenne ihre Schmerzen.
8 Und ich bin herabgekommen, um sie zu erretten aus der Hand der Ägypter und sie aus diesem Land zu führen in ein gutes und weites Land, in ein Land, in dem Milch und Honig fließt, an den Ort der Kanaaniter, Hetiter, Amoriter, Pheresiter, Hewiter und Jebusiter.
9 Und nun siehe, das Geschrei der Kinder Israels ist vor mich gekommen, und ich habe auch ihre Bedrängnis gesehen, wie die Ägypter sie bedrücken.
10 So geh nun hin! Denn ich will dich zu dem Pharao senden, damit du mein Volk, die Kinder Israels, aus Ägypten führst!
11 Mose aber sprach zu Gott: Wer bin ich, dass ich zum Pharao gehen und dass ich die Kinder Israels aus Ägypten führen sollte?
12 Da sprach er: Ich will mit dir sein; und dies soll dir das Zeichen sein, dass ich dich gesandt habe: Wenn du das Volk aus Ägypten geführt hast, werdet ihr an diesem Berg Gott dienen!
Gottes Selbstoffenbarung und Auftrag an Mose
13 Und Mose sprach zu Gott: Siehe, wenn ich zu den Kindern Israels komme und zu ihnen sage: Der Gott eurer Väter hat mich zu euch gesandt!, und sie mich fragen werden: Was ist sein Name? — was soll ich ihnen sagen?
14 Gott sprach zu Mose: »Ich bin, der ich bin!«[a] Und er sprach: So sollst du zu den Kindern Israels sagen: »Ich bin«, der hat mich zu euch gesandt.
15 Und weiter sprach Gott zu Mose: So sollst du zu den Kindern Israels sagen: Der Herr, der Gott eurer Väter, der Gott Abrahams, der Gott Isaaks und der Gott Jakobs, hat mich zu euch gesandt; das ist mein Name ewiglich, ja, das ist der Name, mit dem ihr an mich gedenken sollt[b] von Geschlecht zu Geschlecht.
16 Geh hin und versammle die Ältesten von Israel und sprich zu ihnen: Der Herr, der Gott eurer Väter, der Gott Abrahams, Isaaks und Jakobs, ist mir erschienen und hat gesagt: Ich habe genau achtgegeben auf euch und auf das, was euch in Ägypten geschehen ist,
17 und ich habe gesagt: Ich will euch aus dem Elend Ägyptens herausführen in das Land der Kanaaniter, Hetiter, Amoriter, Pheresiter, Hewiter und Jebusiter, in das Land, in dem Milch und Honig fließt.[c]
18 Und wenn sie auf dich hören, so sollst du und die Ältesten von Israel zum König von Ägypten hineingehen und zu ihm sagen: Der Herr, der Gott der Hebräer, ist uns begegnet. So lass uns nun drei Tagereisen weit in die Wüste gehen, damit wir dem Herrn, unserem Gott, Opfer darbringen!
19 Aber ich weiß, dass euch der König von Ägypten nicht ziehen lassen wird, auch nicht durch eine starke Hand.
20 Aber ich werde meine Hand ausstrecken und Ägypten schlagen mit allen meinen Wundertaten, die ich in seiner Mitte tun will; danach wird er euch ziehen lassen.
21 Und ich will diesem Volk Gunst verschaffen bei den Ägyptern, sodass ihr nicht leer ausziehen müsst, wenn ihr auszieht;
22 sondern die Frau eines jeden [von euch] soll von ihrer Nachbarin und Hausgenossin silberne und goldene Geräte und Kleider fordern; die sollt ihr euren Söhnen und Töchtern geben und Ägypten berauben.

Isten megjelenik Mózesnek, és elhívja őt
3 Mózes pedig apósának, Jetrónak, Midján papjának a juhait legeltette. Egyszer a juhokat a pusztán túlra terelte, és eljutott az Isten hegyéhez, a Hórebhez.
2 Ott megjelent neki az Úr angyala tűz lángjában egy csipkebokor közepéből. Látta ugyanis, hogy a csipkebokor tűzben ég, de mégsem ég el a csipkebokor.
3 Akkor ezt mondta Mózes: Odamegyek, és megnézem ezt a nagy csodát: miért nem ég el a csipkebokor?
4 Amikor az Úr látta, hogy odamegy megnézni, kiáltott neki Isten a csipkebokor közepéből, és ezt mondta: Mózes! Mózes! Ő pedig így felelt: Itt vagyok!
5 Isten ekkor azt mondta: Ne jöjj közelebb! Oldd le sarudat a lábadról, mert szent föld az a hely, ahol állasz!
6 Majd ezt mondta: Én vagyok atyádnak Istene, Ábrahám Istene, Izsák Istene és Jákób Istene. Ekkor elrejtette Mózes az arcát, mert félt rátekinteni az Istenre.
7 Az Úr pedig azt mondta: Megláttam népem nyomorúságát Egyiptomban, és meghallottam kiáltozásukat a sanyargatók miatt, mert ismerem fájdalmukat.

L’appel et l’envoi de Moïse
3 Moïse faisait paître les brebis de son beau-père Jéthro, prêtre de Madian. Il mena son troupeau au-delà du désert et parvint jusqu’à Horeb, la montagne de Dieu[a]. 2 L’ange de l’Eternel[b] lui apparut dans une flamme au milieu d’un buisson : Moïse aperçut un buisson qui était tout embrasé et qui, pourtant, ne se consumait pas. 3 Il se dit alors : Je vais faire un détour pour aller regarder ce phénomène extraordinaire et voir pourquoi le buisson ne se consume pas.
4 L’Eternel vit que Moïse faisait un détour pour aller voir et il l’appela du milieu du buisson :
Moïse, Moïse !
– Je suis là, répondit Moïse.
5 Dieu lui dit : N’approche pas d’ici, ôte tes sandales, car le lieu où tu te tiens est un lieu saint. 6 Puis il ajouta : Je suis le Dieu de tes ancêtres, le Dieu d’Abraham, le Dieu d’Isaac et le Dieu de Jacob[c].
Alors Moïse se couvrit le visage car il craignait de regarder Dieu.
7 L’Eternel reprit : J’ai vu la détresse de mon peuple en Egypte et j’ai entendu les cris que lui font pousser ses oppresseurs. Oui, je sais ce qu’il souffre. 8 C’est pourquoi je suis descendu pour le délivrer des Egyptiens, pour le faire sortir d’Egypte et le conduire vers un bon et vaste pays, un pays ruisselant de lait et de miel ; celui qu’habitent les Cananéens, les Hittites, les Amoréens, les Phéréziens, les Héviens et les Yebousiens[d]. 9 A présent, les cris des Israélites sont parvenus jusqu’à moi et j’ai vu à quel point les Egyptiens les oppriment. 10 Va donc maintenant : je t’envoie vers le pharaon[e], pour que tu fasses sortir d’Egypte les Israélites, mon peuple.
11 Moïse dit à Dieu :
Qui suis-je, moi, pour aller trouver le pharaon et pour faire sortir les Israélites d’Egypte ?
12 – Sache que je serai avec toi, lui répondit Dieu. Et voici le signe auquel on reconnaîtra que c’est moi qui t’ai envoyé : quand tu auras fait sortir le peuple hors d’Egypte, vous m’adorerez sur cette montagne-ci.
13 Moïse reprit : J’irai donc trouver les Israélites et je leur dirai : « Le Dieu de vos ancêtres m’a envoyé vers vous. » Mais s’ils me demandent : « Quel est son nom ? » que leur répondrai-je ?
14 Alors Dieu dit à Moïse : Je suis celui qui est[f]. Puis il ajouta : Voici ce que tu diras aux Israélites : Je suis m’a envoyé vers vous.
15 Puis tu leur diras : « L’Eternel[g], le Dieu de vos ancêtres, le Dieu d’Abraham, d’Isaac et de Jacob m’a envoyé vers vous. C’est là mon nom pour l’éternité, c’est sous ce nom que l’on se souviendra de moi pour tous les temps[h]. 16 Va donc, réunis les responsables d’Israël et dis-leur : L’Eternel, le Dieu de vos ancêtres, le Dieu d’Abraham, d’Isaac et de Jacob m’est apparu et m’a dit : J’ai résolu d’intervenir en votre faveur au regard du traitement qu’on vous inflige en Egypte. 17 Aussi ai-je décidé de vous faire sortir d’Egypte, où vous êtes en proie à l’oppression, pour vous conduire dans le pays des Cananéens, des Hittites, des Amoréens, des Phéréziens, des Héviens et des Yebousiens, dans un pays ruisselant de lait et de miel. » 18 Les responsables d’Israël t’écouteront et tu iras trouver le pharaon avec eux pour lui dire : « L’Eternel, le Dieu des Hébreux, est venu nous trouver. Maintenant, veuille donc nous accorder la permission de faire trois journées de marche dans le désert pour aller offrir un sacrifice à l’Eternel notre Dieu. » 19 Moi, je sais que le pharaon ne vous permettra pas de partir s’il n’y est pas contraint avec puissance[i]. 20 C’est pourquoi j’interviendrai et je frapperai l’Egypte de toutes sortes de prodiges que j’accomplirai au milieu d’elle. Après cela, il vous renverra. 21 Je ferai gagner à ce peuple la faveur des Egyptiens, de sorte qu’à votre départ, vous ne vous en irez pas les mains vides. 22 Chaque femme demandera à sa voisine et à celle qui habite chez elle des ustensiles d’argent et d’or ainsi que des vêtements. Vous les donnerez à porter à vos fils et vos filles. Ainsi vous dépouillerez les Egyptiens.
