33 (A)They shall not live in your land, lest they make you sin against Me; for if you serve their gods, (B)it will surely be a snare to you.”

Indeed, (A)he rebuilt the high places which Hezekiah his father had destroyed; and (B)he erected altars for Baal and made an [a]Asherah, as Ahab king of Israel had done, and (C)worshiped all the host of heaven and served them. (D)And he built altars in the house of Yahweh, of which Yahweh had said, “(E)In Jerusalem I will put My name.” Indeed, he built altars for (F)all the host of heaven in (G)the two courts of the house of Yahweh. (H)He even made his son pass through the fire, (I)practiced soothsaying and interpreted omens, and dealt with mediums and spiritists. He did much that was evil in the sight of Yahweh provoking Him to anger. Then (J)he put the graven image of Asherah, which he had made, in the house of which Yahweh had said to David and to Solomon his son, “(K)In this house and in Jerusalem, which I have chosen from all the tribes of Israel, I will put My name forever. And I (L)will not make the foot of Israel wander anymore from the land which I gave their fathers, if only they will be careful to do according to all that I have commanded them, and according to all the law that My servant Moses commanded them.” But they did not listen, and Manasseh (M)led them astray in order to do more evil than the nations whom Yahweh destroyed before the sons of Israel.

Yahweh Brings Calamity on Israel

10 Then Yahweh spoke by the hand of His slaves the prophets, saying, 11 (N)Because Manasseh king of Judah has done these abominations—(O)he has done evil more than all the Amorites did who were before him—and (P)has also made Judah sin (Q)with his idols, 12 therefore thus says Yahweh, the God of Israel, ‘Behold, I am bringing such calamity on Jerusalem and Judah, that whoever hears of it, (R)both his ears will tingle. 13 (S)And I will stretch over Jerusalem the line of Samaria and the level of the house of Ahab, and I will wipe Jerusalem as one wipes a dish—he wipes it and turns it upside down. 14 And I will abandon the remnant of My inheritance and give them into the hand of their enemies, and they will become as plunder and spoil to all their enemies; 15 because they have done what is evil in My sight, and have been provoking Me to anger since the day their fathers came out of Egypt, even to this day.’”

34 They (A)did not destroy the peoples,
As (B)Yahweh commanded them,
35 But (C)they mingled with the nations
And learned their works,
36 And (D)served their idols,
(E)Which became a snare to them.
37 They (F)sacrificed their sons and their daughters to the (G)demons,
38 And they shed (H)innocent blood,
The blood of their (I)sons and their daughters,
Whom they sacrificed to the idols of Canaan;
And the land was (J)polluted with the blood.
39 Thus they became (K)unclean in their works,
And (L)played the harlot in their actions.

40 So the (M)anger of Yahweh was kindled against His people
And He (N)abhorred His [a](O)inheritance.
41 Then (P)He gave them into the hand of the [b]nations,
And those who hated them ruled over them.
