²³ And he said to them, “This is what Yahweh has spoken: ^(A)Tomorrow is a sabbath observance, a holy sabbath to Yahweh. Bake what you will bake and boil what you will boil, and ^(B)all that is in excess ^[a]put aside to be kept until morning.” ²⁴ So they ^[b]put it aside until morning, as Moses had commanded, and ^(C)it did not become foul nor was there any worm in it. ²⁵ And Moses said, “Eat it today, for today is a sabbath to Yahweh; today you will not find it in the field. ^26 (D)Six days you shall gather it, but on the seventh day, the sabbath, there will be ^[c]none.”

²⁷ Now it happened on the seventh day, that some of the people went out to gather, but they found none. ²⁸ Then Yahweh said to Moses, “^(E)How long do you refuse to keep My commandments and My ^[d]laws? ²⁹ See, Yahweh has given you the sabbath; therefore He gives you bread for two days on the sixth day. Remain every man in his place; let no man go out of his place on the seventh day.” ³⁰ So the people rested on the seventh day.

¹³ “But as for you, speak to the sons of Israel, saying, ‘^(A)You shall surely keep My sabbaths; for this is ^(B)a sign between Me and you throughout your generations, that you may know that I am Yahweh who makes you holy. ¹⁴ Therefore you shall keep the sabbath, for it is holy to you. ^(C)Everyone who profanes it shall surely be put to death; for whoever does any work on it, that person shall be cut off from among his people. ^15 (D)Six days work may be done, but on the seventh day there is a ^(E)sabbath of complete rest, holy to Yahweh; ^(F)whoever does any work on the sabbath day shall surely be put to death. ¹⁶ So the sons of Israel shall keep the sabbath, to ^[a]celebrate the sabbath throughout their generations as an everlasting covenant.’ ^17 (G)It is a sign between Me and the sons of Israel forever; ^(H)for in six days Yahweh made heaven and earth, but on the seventh day He rested and was refreshed.”

¹⁸ When He had finished speaking with him upon Mount Sinai, He gave Moses ^(I)the two tablets of the testimony, tablets of stone, ^(J)written by the finger of God.

²⁷ And Jesus was saying to them, “^(A)The Sabbath ^[a]was made ^[b]for man, and ^(B)not man ^[c]for the Sabbath. ²⁸ Consequently the Son of Man is Lord even of the Sabbath.”
