⁸ Moses then took the blood, sprinkled it on the people^(A) and said, “This is the blood of the covenant^(B) that the Lord has made with you in accordance with all these words.”

⁴ It is impossible for the blood of bulls and goats^(A) to take away sins.^(B)

⁵ Therefore, when Christ came into the world,^(C) he said:

⁶ Moses^(A) took half of the blood^(B) and put it in bowls, and the other half he splashed^(C) against the altar.

²⁵ I will sprinkle^(A) clean water on you, and you will be clean; I will cleanse^(B) you from all your impurities^(C) and from all your idols.^(D)

²⁸ This is my blood of the^[a] covenant,^(A) which is poured out for many for the forgiveness of sins.^(B)

Benediction and Final Greetings

²⁰ Now may the God of peace,^(A) who through the blood of the eternal covenant^(B) brought back from the dead^(C) our Lord Jesus, that great Shepherd of the sheep,^(D)

² who have been chosen according to the foreknowledge^(A) of God the Father, through the sanctifying work of the Spirit,^(B) to be obedient^(C) to Jesus Christ and sprinkled with his blood:^(D)

Grace and peace be yours in abundance.^(E)

¹⁸ This is why even the first covenant was not put into effect without blood.^{(A) 19} When Moses had proclaimed^(B) every command of the law to all the people, he took the blood of calves,^(C) together with water, scarlet wool and branches of hyssop, and sprinkled the scroll and all the people.^{(D) 20} He said, “This is the blood of the covenant, which God has commanded you to keep.”^{[a](E) 21} In the same way, he sprinkled with the blood both the tabernacle and everything used in its ceremonies.

²⁵ In the same way, after supper he took the cup, saying, “This cup is the new covenant^(A) in my blood;^(B) do this, whenever you drink it, in remembrance of me.”
