¹⁴ And he said to the elders, “Wait here for us until we return to you. And behold, Aaron and ^(A)Hur are with you. Whoever has a dispute, let him go to them.”

¹² But Moses' hands grew weary, so they took a stone and put it under him, and he sat on it, while Aaron and ^(A)Hur held up his hands, one on one side, and the other on the other side. So his hands were steady until the going down of the sun.

¹⁰ So ^(A)Joshua did as Moses told him, and fought with Amalek, while Moses, Aaron, and ^(B)Hur went up to the top of the hill.

⁵ Then Abraham said to his young men, “Stay here with the donkey; I and the boy^[a] will go over there and worship and come again to you.”

Saul's Unlawful Sacrifice

^8 (A)He waited seven days, the time appointed by Samuel. But Samuel did not come to Gilgal, and the people were scattering from him. ⁹ So Saul said, “Bring the burnt offering here to me, and the peace offerings.” And he offered the burnt offering. ¹⁰ As soon as he had finished offering the burnt offering, behold, Samuel came. And Saul went out to meet him and greet him. ¹¹ Samuel said, “What have you done?” And Saul said, “When I saw that the people were scattering from me, and that you did not come within the days appointed, and that the Philistines had mustered at Michmash, ¹² I said, ‘Now the Philistines will come down against me at Gilgal, and I have not sought the favor of the Lord.’ So I forced myself, and offered the burnt offering.” ¹³ And Samuel said to Saul, ^(B)“You have done foolishly. ^(C)You have not kept the command of the Lord your God, with which he commanded you. For then the Lord would have established your kingdom over Israel forever.

⁸ Then go down before me ^(A)to Gilgal. And behold, I am coming down to you to offer burnt offerings and ^(B)to sacrifice peace offerings. ^(C)Seven days you shall wait, until I come to you and show you what you shall do.”

The Golden Calf

32 When the people saw that Moses ^(A)delayed to come down from the mountain, the people gathered themselves together to Aaron and said to him, ^(B)“Up, make us gods who shall ^(C)go before us. As for this Moses, the man who brought us up out of the land of Egypt, we do not know what has become of him.”

^25 (A)Moses chose able men out of all Israel and made them heads over the people, chiefs of thousands, of hundreds, of fifties, and of tens. ²⁶ And ^(B)they judged the people at all times. Any hard case they brought to Moses, but any small matter they decided themselves.
