²¹ And Moses was content to dwell with the man, and he gave Moses his daughter ^(A)Zipporah.

⁵ Keep your life ^(A)free from love of money, and ^(B)be content with what you have, for he has said, ^(C)“I will never leave you nor forsake you.”

³⁸ These twenty years I have been with you. Your ewes and your female goats have not miscarried, and I have not eaten the rams of your flocks. ³⁹ What was torn by wild beasts I did not bring to you. I bore the loss of it myself. ^(A)From my hand you required it, whether stolen by day or stolen by night. ⁴⁰ There I was: by day the heat consumed me, and the cold by night, and my sleep fled from my eyes.

¹⁰ and ^(A)the rich in his humiliation, because ^(B)like a flower of the grass^[a] he will pass away.

^25 (A)choosing rather to be mistreated with the people of God than to enjoy ^(B)the fleeting pleasures of sin.

⁶ But ^(A)godliness ^(B)with contentment is great gain,

¹¹ Not that I am speaking of being in need, for I have learned in whatever situation I am to be ^(A)content. ¹² I know how to be brought low, and I know how to abound. In any and every circumstance, I have learned the secret of facing plenty and ^(B)hunger, abundance and ^(C)need.

² Now Jethro, Moses' father-in-law, had taken Zipporah, Moses' wife, after he had sent her home, ³ along with her ^(A)two sons. The name of the one was Gershom (^(B)for he said, ^(C)“I have been a sojourner^[a] in a foreign land”), ⁴ and the name of the other, Eliezer^[b] (for he said, “The God of my father was my help, and delivered me from the sword of Pharaoh”). ⁵ Jethro, Moses' father-in-law, came with his sons and his wife to Moses in the wilderness where he was encamped at the ^(D)mountain of God. ⁶ And when he sent word to Moses, “I,^[c] your father-in-law Jethro, am coming to you with your wife and her two sons with her,”

²⁰ So Moses took ^(A)his wife and his sons and had them ride on a donkey, and went back to the land of Egypt. And Moses took ^(B)the staff of God in his hand.

²¹ And the Lord said to Moses, “When you go back to Egypt, see that you do before Pharaoh all the ^(C)miracles that I have put in your power. But ^(D)I will harden his heart, so that he will not let the people go. ²² Then you shall say to Pharaoh, ‘Thus says the Lord, ^(E)Israel is my ^(F)firstborn son, ²³ and I say to you, “Let my son go that he may serve me.” If you refuse to let him go, behold, I ^(G)will kill your firstborn son.’”

²⁴ At a lodging place on the way ^(H)the Lord met him and ^(I)sought to put him to death. ²⁵ Then ^(J)Zipporah took a ^(K)flint and cut off her son's foreskin and touched Moses'^[a] feet with it and said, “Surely you are a bridegroom of blood to me!”
