5 God decided in advance to adopt us into his own family by bringing us to himself through Jesus Christ. This is what he wanted to do, and it gave him great pleasure. 6 So we praise God for the glorious grace he has poured out on us who belong to his dear Son.[a] 7 He is so rich in kindness and grace that he purchased our freedom with the blood of his Son and forgave our sins. 8 He has showered his kindness on us, along with all wisdom and understanding.
9 God has now revealed to us his mysterious will regarding Christ—which is to fulfill his own good plan. 10 And this is the plan: At the right time he will bring everything together under the authority of Christ—everything in heaven and on earth. 11 Furthermore, because we are united with Christ, we have received an inheritance from God,[b] for he chose us in advance, and he makes everything work out according to his plan.

5 he[a] predestined(A) us for adoption to sonship[b](B) through Jesus Christ, in accordance with his pleasure(C) and will— 6 to the praise of his glorious grace,(D) which he has freely given us in the One he loves.(E) 7 In him we have redemption(F) through his blood,(G) the forgiveness of sins, in accordance with the riches(H) of God’s grace 8 that he lavished on us. With all wisdom and understanding, 9 he[c] made known to us the mystery(I) of his will according to his good pleasure, which he purposed(J) in Christ, 10 to be put into effect when the times reach their fulfillment(K)—to bring unity to all things in heaven and on earth under Christ.(L)
11 In him we were also chosen,[d] having been predestined(M) according to the plan of him who works out everything in conformity with the purpose(N) of his will,
