^4 (A)neither filthiness, nor ^(B)foolish talking, nor coarse jesting, ^(C)which are not fitting, but rather ^(D)giving of thanks.

^8 (A)But now you yourselves are to put off all these: anger, wrath, malice, blasphemy, filthy language out of your mouth.

^29 (A)Let no corrupt word proceed out of your mouth, but ^(B)what is good for necessary ^[a]edification, ^(C)that it may impart grace to the hearers.

¹⁸ in everything give thanks; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.

⁴ Look also at ships: although they are so large and are driven by fierce winds, they are turned by a very small rudder wherever the pilot desires. ⁵ Even so ^(A)the tongue is a little member and ^(B)boasts great things.

See how great a forest a little fire kindles! ⁶ And ^(C)the tongue is a fire, a world of ^[a]iniquity. The tongue is so set among our members that it ^(D)defiles the whole body, and sets on fire the course of ^[b]nature; and it is set on fire by ^[c]hell. ⁷ For every kind of beast and bird, of reptile and creature of the sea, is tamed and has been tamed by mankind. ⁸ But no man can tame the tongue. It is an unruly evil, ^(E)full of deadly poison.

^34 (A)Brood^[a] of vipers! How can you, being evil, speak good things? ^(B)For out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks. ³⁵ A good man out of the good treasure ^[b]of his heart brings forth good things, and an evil man out of the evil treasure brings forth evil things. ³⁶ But I say to you that for every idle word men may speak, they will give account of it in the day of judgment. ³⁷ For by your words you will be justified, and by your words you will be condemned.”

^15 (A)Therefore by Him let us continually offer ^(B)the sacrifice of praise to God, that is, ^(C)the fruit of our lips, ^[a]giving thanks to His name.

¹⁵ And let ^(A)the peace of God rule in your hearts, ^(B)to which also you were called ^(C)in one body; and ^(D)be thankful. ¹⁶ Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom, teaching and admonishing one another ^(E)in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord. ¹⁷ And ^(F)whatever you do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through Him.
