10 In this is love, (A)not that we loved God, but that He loved us and sent His Son (B)to be the propitiation for our sins. 11 Beloved, (C)if God so loved us, we also ought to love one another.

Seeing God Through Love

12 (D)No one has seen God at any time. If we love one another, God abides in us, and His love has been perfected in us. 13 (E)By this we know that we abide in Him, and He in us, because He has given us of His Spirit. 14 And (F)we have seen and testify that (G)the Father has sent the Son as Savior of the world. 15 (H)Whoever confesses that Jesus is the Son of God, God abides in him, and he in God. 16 And we have known and believed the love that God has for us. God is love, and (I)he who abides in love abides in God, and God (J)in him.

The Consummation of Love

17 Love has been perfected among us in this: that (K)we may have boldness in the day of judgment; because as He is, so are we in this world. 18 There is no fear in love; but perfect love casts out fear, because fear involves torment. But he who fears has not been made perfect in love. 19 (L)We love [a]Him because He first loved us.

10 This is love: not that we loved God, but that he loved us(A) and sent his Son as an atoning sacrifice for our sins.(B) 11 Dear friends,(C) since God so loved us,(D) we also ought to love one another.(E) 12 No one has ever seen God;(F) but if we love one another, God lives in us and his love is made complete in us.(G)

13 This is how we know(H) that we live in him and he in us: He has given us of his Spirit.(I) 14 And we have seen and testify(J) that the Father has sent his Son to be the Savior of the world.(K) 15 If anyone acknowledges that Jesus is the Son of God,(L) God lives in them and they in God.(M) 16 And so we know and rely on the love God has for us.

God is love.(N) Whoever lives in love lives in God, and God in them.(O) 17 This is how love is made complete(P) among us so that we will have confidence(Q) on the day of judgment:(R) In this world we are like Jesus. 18 There is no fear in love. But perfect love drives out fear,(S) because fear has to do with punishment. The one who fears is not made perfect in love.

19 We love because he first loved us.(T)
