Deberes filiales
6 Hijos, obedeced en el Señor a vuestros padres, porque esto es justo. 2 «Honra a tu padre y a tu madre —que es el primer mandamiento con promesa— 3 para que te vaya bien y disfrutes de una larga vida en la tierra».[a]
4 Y vosotros, padres, no hagáis enojar a vuestros hijos, sino criadlos según la disciplina e instrucción del Señor.
Deberes de los esclavos y de sus amos
5 Esclavos, obedeced a vuestros amos terrenales con respeto y temor, y con integridad de corazón, como a Cristo. 6 No lo hagáis solo cuando os estén mirando, como los que quieren ganarse el favor humano, sino como esclavos de Cristo, haciendo de todo corazón la voluntad de Dios. 7 Servid de buena gana, como quien sirve al Señor y no a los hombres, 8 sabiendo que el Señor recompensará a cada uno por el bien que haya hecho, sea esclavo o sea libre.
9 Y vosotros, amos, corresponded a esta actitud de vuestros esclavos, dejando de amenazarlos. Recordad que tanto ellos como vosotros tenéis un mismo Amo[b] en el cielo, y que él no tienen favoritismos.
La armadura de Dios
10 Por último, fortaleceos con el gran poder del Señor. 11 Poneos toda la armadura de Dios para que podáis hacer frente a las artimañas del diablo. 12 Porque nuestra lucha no es contra seres humanos, sino contra poderes, contra autoridades, contra potestades que dominan este mundo de tinieblas, contra fuerzas espirituales malignas en las regiones celestiales. 13 Por lo tanto, poneos toda la armadura de Dios, para que cuando llegue el día malo podáis resistir hasta el fin con firmeza. 14 Manteneos firmes, ceñidos con el cinturón de la verdad, protegidos por la coraza de justicia, 15 y calzados con la disposición de proclamar el evangelio de la paz. 16 Además de todo esto, tomad el escudo de la fe, con el cual podéis apagar todas las flechas encendidas del maligno. 17 Tomad el casco de la salvación y la espada del Espíritu, que es la palabra de Dios.
18 Orad en el Espíritu en todo momento, con peticiones y ruegos. Manteneos alerta y perseverad en oración por todos los santos.
19 Orad también por mí para que, cuando hable, Dios me dé las palabras para dar a conocer con valor el misterio del evangelio, 20 por el cual soy embajador en cadenas. Orad para que lo proclame valerosamente, como debo hacerlo.

21 Nuestro querido hermano Tíquico, fiel servidor en el Señor, os contará todo, para que también vosotros sepáis cómo me va y qué estoy haciendo. 22 Os lo envío precisamente para que sepáis cómo estamos y para que cobréis ánimo.
23 Que Dios el Padre y el Señor Jesucristo os concedan paz, amor y fe a los hermanos. 24 La gracia sea con todos los que aman a nuestro Señor Jesucristo con amor imperecedero.

Dios Habla Hoy
Hijos y padres
6 Hijos, obedezcan a sus padres como agrada al Señor, porque esto es justo. 2 El primer mandamiento que contiene una promesa es éste: «Honra a tu padre y a tu madre, 3 para que seas feliz y vivas una larga vida en la tierra.»
4 Y ustedes, padres, no hagan enojar a sus hijos, sino más bien edúquenlos con la disciplina y la instrucción que quiere el Señor.
Esclavos y amos
5 Esclavos, obedezcan ustedes a los que aquí en la tierra son sus amos. Háganlo con respeto, temor y sinceridad de corazón, como si estuvieran sirviendo a Cristo. 6 Sírvanles, no solamente cuando ellos los están mirando, para quedar bien con ellos, sino como siervos de Cristo, haciendo sinceramente la voluntad de Dios. 7 Realicen su trabajo de buena gana, como un servicio al Señor y no a los hombres. 8 Pues deben saber que cada uno, sea esclavo o libre, recibirá del Señor según lo que haya hecho de bueno.
9 Y ustedes, amos, pórtense del mismo modo con sus siervos, sin amenazas. Recuerden que tanto ustedes como ellos están sujetos al Señor que está en el cielo, y que él no hace discriminaciones.
El combate espiritual del cristiano
10 Y ahora, hermanos, busquen su fuerza en el Señor, en su poder irresistible. 11 Protéjanse con toda la armadura que Dios les ha dado, para que puedan estar firmes contra los engaños del diablo. 12 Porque no estamos luchando contra poderes humanos, sino contra malignas fuerzas espirituales del cielo, las cuales tienen mando, autoridad y dominio sobre el mundo de tinieblas que nos rodea. 13 Por eso, tomen toda la armadura que Dios les ha dado, para que puedan resistir en el día malo y, después de haberse preparado bien, mantenerse firmes.
14 Así que manténganse firmes, revestidos de la verdad y protegidos por la rectitud. 15 Estén siempre listos para salir a anunciar el mensaje de la paz. 16 Sobre todo, que su fe sea el escudo que los libre de las flechas encendidas del maligno. 17 Que la salvación sea el casco que proteja su cabeza, y que la palabra de Dios sea la espada que les da el Espíritu Santo. 18 No dejen ustedes de orar: rueguen y pidan a Dios siempre, guiados por el Espíritu. Manténganse alerta, sin desanimarse, y oren por todo el pueblo santo. 19 Oren también por mí, para que Dios me dé las palabras que debo decir, y para que pueda hablar con valor y dar así a conocer el designio secreto de Dios, contenido en el evangelio. 20 Dios me ha enviado como embajador de este mensaje, por el cual estoy preso ahora. Oren para que yo hable de él sin temor alguno.
21 Tíquico, nuestro querido hermano y fiel ayudante en la obra del Señor, les llevará todas las noticias acerca de mí y de cómo me encuentro. 22 Por eso se lo envío a ustedes, para que les diga cómo estamos y de esta manera los anime.
23 Que Dios el Padre, y el Señor Jesucristo, les dé a los hermanos paz y amor, con fe; 24 que él dé su gracia a todos los que aman a nuestro Señor Jesucristo con amor inalterable.

6 Children, obey your parents in the Lord: for this is right.
2 Honour thy father and mother; which is the first commandment with promise;
3 That it may be well with thee, and thou mayest live long on the earth.
4 And, ye fathers, provoke not your children to wrath: but bring them up in the nurture and admonition of the Lord.
5 Servants, be obedient to them that are your masters according to the flesh, with fear and trembling, in singleness of your heart, as unto Christ;
6 Not with eyeservice, as menpleasers; but as the servants of Christ, doing the will of God from the heart;
7 With good will doing service, as to the Lord, and not to men:
8 Knowing that whatsoever good thing any man doeth, the same shall he receive of the Lord, whether he be bond or free.
9 And, ye masters, do the same things unto them, forbearing threatening: knowing that your Master also is in heaven; neither is there respect of persons with him.
10 Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord, and in the power of his might.
11 Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil.
12 For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.
13 Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand.
14 Stand therefore, having your loins girt about with truth, and having on the breastplate of righteousness;
15 And your feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace;
16 Above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked.
17 And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God:
18 Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, and watching thereunto with all perseverance and supplication for all saints;
19 And for me, that utterance may be given unto me, that I may open my mouth boldly, to make known the mystery of the gospel,
20 For which I am an ambassador in bonds: that therein I may speak boldly, as I ought to speak.
21 But that ye also may know my affairs, and how I do, Tychicus, a beloved brother and faithful minister in the Lord, shall make known to you all things:
22 Whom I have sent unto you for the same purpose, that ye might know our affairs, and that he might comfort your hearts.
23 Peace be to the brethren, and love with faith, from God the Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.
24 Grace be with all them that love our Lord Jesus Christ in sincerity. Amen.

Children and Parents
6 Children, obey your parents the way the Lord wants, because this is the right thing to do. 2 The command says, “You must respect your father and mother.”[a] This is the first command that has a promise with it. 3 And this is the promise: “Then all will go well with you, and you will have a long life on the earth.”[b]
4 Fathers, don’t make your children angry, but raise them with the kind of teaching and training you learn from the Lord.
Slaves and Masters
5 Slaves, obey your masters here on earth with fear and respect. And do this with a heart that is true, just as you obey Christ. 6 You must do this not just to please your masters while they are watching, but all the time. Since you are really slaves of Christ, you must do with all your heart what God wants. 7 Do your work, and be happy to do it. Work as though it is the Lord you are serving, not just an earthly master. 8 Remember that the Lord will give everyone a reward for doing good. Everyone, slave or free, will get a reward for the good things they do.
9 Masters, in the same way, be good to your slaves. Don’t say things to scare them. You know that the one who is your Master and their Master is in heaven, and he treats everyone the same.
Wear the Full Armor of God
10 To end my letter I tell you, be strong in the Lord and in his great power. 11 Wear the full armor of God. Wear God’s armor so that you can fight against the devil’s clever tricks. 12 Our fight is not against people on earth. We are fighting against the rulers and authorities and the powers of this world’s darkness. We are fighting against the spiritual powers of evil in the heavenly places. 13 That is why you need to get God’s full armor. Then on the day of evil, you will be able to stand strong. And when you have finished the whole fight, you will still be standing.
14 So stand strong with the belt of truth tied around your waist, and on your chest wear the protection of right living. 15 On your feet wear the Good News of peace to help you stand strong. 16 And also use the shield of faith with which you can stop all the burning arrows that come from the Evil One. 17 Accept God’s salvation as your helmet. And take the sword of the Spirit—that sword is the teaching of God. 18 Pray in the Spirit at all times. Pray with all kinds of prayers, and ask for everything you need. To do this you must always be ready. Never give up. Always pray for all of God’s people.
19 Also pray for me—that when I speak, God will give me words so that I can tell the secret truth about the Good News without fear. 20 I have the work of speaking for that Good News, and that is what I am doing now, here in prison. Pray that when I tell people the Good News, I will speak without fear as I should.
Final Greetings
21 I am sending you Tychicus, the brother we love. He is a faithful servant of the Lord’s work. He will tell you everything that is happening with me. Then you will know how I am and what I am doing. 22 That’s why I am sending him—to let you know how we are and to encourage you.
23 I pray that God the Father and the Lord Jesus Christ will give peace and love with faith to all the brothers and sisters there. 24 God’s grace to all of you who love our Lord Jesus Christ with love that never ends.
