3 Derfor bøier jeg mine knær, jeg, Paulus, Kristi Jesu fange for eders skyld, I hedninger -

²om I ellers har hørt om husholdningen med den Guds nåde som er mig gitt for eder,

³at han ved åpenbaring har kunngjort mig hemmeligheten, således som jeg ovenfor har skrevet med få ord,

⁴hvorav I, når I leser det, kan kjenne min innsikt i Kristi hemmelighet,

⁵som i de forrige tidsaldre ikke er blitt kunngjort for menneskenes barn således som den nu er åpenbaret for hans hellige apostler og profeter i Ånden:

⁶at hedningene er medarvinger og hører med til legemet og har del med i løftet i Kristus Jesus ved evangeliet,

⁷hvis tjener jeg er blitt efter den Guds nådes gave som er mig gitt ved virksomheten av hans makt.

⁸Mig, den aller ringeste av alle hellige, blev denne nåde gitt å forkynne hedningene evangeliet om Kristi uransakelige rikdom,

⁹og å oplyse alle om hvorledes husholdningen er med den hemmelighet som har vært skjult fra evige tider i Gud, som har skapt alt,

¹⁰forat Guds mangfoldige visdom nu ved menigheten skulde bli kunngjort for maktene og myndighetene i himmelen

¹¹efter det forsett fra evige tider som han fullførte i Kristus Jesus, vår Herre,

¹²i hvem vi har vår frimodighet og adgang med tillit ved troen på ham.

¹³Derfor beder jeg at I ikke må tape motet over mine trengsler for eder, som er eders ære. -

¹⁴Derfor altså bøier jeg mine knær for Faderen,

¹⁵som er den rette far for alt som kalles barn i himmelen og på jorden,

¹⁶at han efter sin herlighets rikdom må gi eder å styrkes med kraft ved hans Ånd i eders innvortes menneske,

¹⁷at Kristus må bo ved troen i eders hjerter,

¹⁸så I, rotfestet og grunnfestet i kjærlighet, må være i stand til å fatte med alle de hellige hvad bredde og lengde og dybde og høide der er,

¹⁹og kjenne Kristi kjærlighet, som overgår all kunnskap, forat I kan fylles til all Guds fylde.

²⁰Men ham som kan gjøre mere enn alt, langt ut over det som vi beder eller forstår, efter den kraft som ter sig virksom i oss,

²¹ham være æren i menigheten og i Kristus Jesus, gjennem alle slekter i alle evigheter! Amen.

God’s Marvelous Plan for the Gentiles

3 For this reason I, Paul, the prisoner^(A) of Christ Jesus for the sake of you Gentiles—

²Surely you have heard about the administration of God’s grace that was given to me^(B) for you, ³that is, the mystery^(C) made known to me by revelation,^(D) as I have already written briefly. ⁴In reading this, then, you will be able to understand my insight^(E) into the mystery of Christ, ⁵which was not made known to people in other generations as it has now been revealed by the Spirit to God’s holy apostles and prophets.^(F) ⁶This mystery is that through the gospel the Gentiles are heirs^(G) together with Israel, members together of one body,^(H) and sharers together in the promise in Christ Jesus.^(I)

⁷I became a servant of this gospel^(J) by the gift of God’s grace given me^(K) through the working of his power.^(L) ⁸Although I am less than the least of all the Lord’s people,^(M) this grace was given me: to preach to the Gentiles^(N) the boundless riches of Christ,^(O) ⁹and to make plain to everyone the administration of this mystery,^(P) which for ages past was kept hidden in God, who created all things. ¹⁰His intent was that now, through the church, the manifold wisdom of God^(Q) should be made known^(R) to the rulers and authorities^(S) in the heavenly realms,^(T) ¹¹according to his eternal purpose^(U) that he accomplished in Christ Jesus our Lord. ¹²In him and through faith in him we may approach God^(V) with freedom and confidence.^(W) ¹³I ask you, therefore, not to be discouraged because of my sufferings for you, which are your glory.

A Prayer for the Ephesians

¹⁴For this reason I kneel^(X) before the Father, ¹⁵from whom every family^[a] in heaven and on earth derives its name. ¹⁶I pray that out of his glorious riches^(Y) he may strengthen you with power^(Z) through his Spirit in your inner being,^(AA) ¹⁷so that Christ may dwell in your hearts^(AB) through faith. And I pray that you, being rooted^(AC) and established in love, ¹⁸may have power, together with all the Lord’s holy people,^(AD) to grasp how wide and long and high and deep^(AE) is the love of Christ, ¹⁹and to know this love that surpasses knowledge^(AF)—that you may be filled^(AG) to the measure of all the fullness of God.^(AH)

²⁰Now to him who is able^(AI) to do immeasurably more than all we ask^(AJ) or imagine, according to his power^(AK) that is at work within us, ²¹to him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, for ever and ever! Amen.^(AL)

3 For this cause I Paul, the prisoner of Jesus Christ for you Gentiles,

²If ye have heard of the dispensation of the grace of God which is given me to you-ward:

³How that by revelation he made known unto me the mystery; (as I wrote afore in few words,

⁴Whereby, when ye read, ye may understand my knowledge in the mystery of Christ)

⁵Which in other ages was not made known unto the sons of men, as it is now revealed unto his holy apostles and prophets by the Spirit;

⁶That the Gentiles should be fellowheirs, and of the same body, and partakers of his promise in Christ by the gospel:

⁷Whereof I was made a minister, according to the gift of the grace of God given unto me by the effectual working of his power.

⁸Unto me, who am less than the least of all saints, is this grace given, that I should preach among the Gentiles the unsearchable riches of Christ;

⁹And to make all men see what is the fellowship of the mystery, which from the beginning of the world hath been hid in God, who created all things by Jesus Christ:

¹⁰To the intent that now unto the principalities and powers in heavenly places might be known by the church the manifold wisdom of God,

¹⁶That he would grant you, according to the riches of his glory, to be strengthened with might by his Spirit in the inner man;

¹⁸May be able to comprehend with all saints what is the breadth, and length, and depth, and height;

¹⁹And to know the love of Christ, which passeth knowledge, that ye might be filled with all the fulness of God.
