Ang mangangaral ay nagsasabing ang lahat ng bagay ay walang kabuluhan.
1 Ang mga salita (A)ng Mangangaral, na anak ni David, (B)hari sa Jerusalem.
2 (C)Walang kabuluhan ng mga walang kabuluhan, sabi ng Mangangaral; walang kabuluhan ng mga walang kabuluhan, (D)lahat ay (E)walang kabuluhan.
3 (F)Anong pakinabang mayroon ang tao sa lahat ng kaniyang gawa, na kaniyang ginagawa sa ilalim ng araw?
4 Isang salin ng lahi ay yumayaon, at ibang salin ng lahi ay dumarating; (G)nguni't ang lupa ay nananatili magpakailan man.
5 (H)Ang araw naman ay sumisikat, at ang araw ay lumulubog, at nagmamadali sa dakong sinisikatan nito.
6 (I)Ang hangin ay yumayaon sa dakong timugan, at pumipihit sa hilagaan: at laging pumipihit na patuloy, at ang hangin ay bumabalik uli ayon sa kaniyang pihit.
7 (J)Lahat ng mga ilog ay humuhugos sa dagat, gayon ma'y hindi napupuno ang dagat; sa dakong hinuhugusan ng mga ilog, doon din nagsisihugos uli ang mga yaon.
8 Lahat ng mga bagay ay puspos ng pagaalapaap; hindi maisasaysay ng tao: (K)ang mata ay hindi nasisiyahan ng pagtingin, ni ang tainga man ay nasisiyahan sa pakikinig.
9 (L)Yaong nangyari ay siyang mangyayari; at yaong nagawa ay siyang magagawa: at walang bagong bagay sa ilalim ng araw.
10 May bagay ba na masasabi ang mga tao, Tingnan mo, ito'y bago? nayari nga sa mga panahon na una sa atin.
11 Walang alaala sa mga dating lahi; ni magkakaroon man ng alaala sa mga huling salin ng lahi na darating, sa mga yaon na darating pagkatapos.
12 (M)Akong Mangangaral ay naging hari sa Israel sa Jerusalem.
13 (N)At inihilig ko ang aking puso na hanapin at siyasatin sa pamamagitan ng karunungan ang lahat na nagawa sa silong ng langit: (O)mahirap na pagdaramdam na ito ang ibinigay ng Dios sa mga anak ng mga tao, upang pagsanayan.
14 Aking nakita ang lahat na gawa, na nagawa sa ilalim ng araw; at, narito, lahat ay (P)walang kabuluhan at nauuwi sa wala.
15 (Q)Ang baluktot ay hindi matutuwid: at ang kulang ay hindi mabibilang.
16 Ako'y sumangguni sa aking sariling puso, na sinasabi ko, Narito, (R)nagtamo ako sa akin ng malaking karunungan ng higit kay sa lahat na nauna sa akin sa Jerusalem: oo, ang puso ko'y nagtaglay ng malaking kabihasnan sa karunungan at kaalaman.
17 (S)At inihilig ko ang aking puso na makaalam ng karunungan, at makaalam ng kaululan at ng kamangmangan: aking nahalata na ito man ay nauuwi sa wala.
18 Sapagka't (T)sa maraming karunungan at maraming kapanglawan: at siyang nananagana sa kaalaman ay nananagana sa kapanglawan.

Everything Is Meaningless
1 The words of the Teacher,[a](A) son of David, king in Jerusalem:(B)
2 “Meaningless! Meaningless!”
says the Teacher.
“Utterly meaningless!
Everything is meaningless.”(C)
3 What do people gain from all their labors
at which they toil under the sun?(D)
4 Generations come and generations go,
but the earth remains forever.(E)
5 The sun rises and the sun sets,
and hurries back to where it rises.(F)
6 The wind blows to the south
and turns to the north;
round and round it goes,
ever returning on its course.
7 All streams flow into the sea,
yet the sea is never full.
To the place the streams come from,
there they return again.(G)
8 All things are wearisome,
more than one can say.
The eye never has enough of seeing,(H)
nor the ear its fill of hearing.
9 What has been will be again,
what has been done will be done again;(I)
there is nothing new under the sun.
10 Is there anything of which one can say,
“Look! This is something new”?
It was here already, long ago;
it was here before our time.
11 No one remembers the former generations,(J)
and even those yet to come
will not be remembered
by those who follow them.(K)
Wisdom Is Meaningless
12 I, the Teacher,(L) was king over Israel in Jerusalem.(M) 13 I applied my mind to study and to explore by wisdom all that is done under the heavens.(N) What a heavy burden God has laid on mankind!(O) 14 I have seen all the things that are done under the sun; all of them are meaningless, a chasing after the wind.(P)
15 What is crooked cannot be straightened;(Q)
what is lacking cannot be counted.
16 I said to myself, “Look, I have increased in wisdom more than anyone who has ruled over Jerusalem before me;(R) I have experienced much of wisdom and knowledge.” 17 Then I applied myself to the understanding of wisdom,(S) and also of madness and folly,(T) but I learned that this, too, is a chasing after the wind.

2 Vanité des vanités, dit l’Ecclésiaste, vanité des vanités, tout est vanité.
3 Quel avantage revient-il à l’homme de toute la peine qu’il se donne sous le soleil? 4 Une génération s’en va, une autre vient, et la terre subsiste toujours. 5 Le soleil se lève, le soleil se couche; il soupire après le lieu d’où il se lève de nouveau. 6 Le vent se dirige vers le midi, tourne vers le nord; puis il tourne encore, et reprend les mêmes circuits. 7 Tous les fleuves vont à la mer, et la mer n’est point remplie; ils continuent à aller vers le lieu où ils se dirigent. 8 Toutes choses sont en travail au-delà de ce qu’on peut dire; l’œil ne se rassasie pas de voir, et l’oreille ne se lasse pas d’entendre. 9 Ce qui a été, c’est ce qui sera, et ce qui s’est fait, c’est ce qui se fera, il n’y a rien de nouveau sous le soleil. 10 S’il est une chose dont on dise: Vois ceci, c’est nouveau! cette chose existait déjà dans les siècles qui nous ont précédés. 11 On ne se souvient pas de ce qui est ancien; et ce qui arrivera dans la suite ne laissera pas de souvenir chez ceux qui vivront plus tard.
Vanité de la sagesse humaine
12 Moi, l’Ecclésiaste, j’ai été roi d’Israël à Jérusalem. 13 J’ai appliqué mon cœur à rechercher et à sonder par la sagesse tout ce qui se fait sous les cieux: c’est là une occupation pénible, à laquelle Dieu soumet les fils de l’homme. 14 J’ai vu tout ce qui se fait sous le soleil; et voici, tout est vanité et poursuite du vent. 15 Ce qui est courbé ne peut se redresser, et ce qui manque ne peut être compté. 16 J’ai dit en mon cœur: Voici, j’ai grandi et surpassé en sagesse tous ceux qui ont dominé avant moi sur Jérusalem, et mon cœur a vu beaucoup de sagesse et de science. 17 J’ai appliqué mon cœur à connaître la sagesse, et à connaître la sottise et la folie; j’ai compris que cela aussi c’est la poursuite du vent. 18 Car avec beaucoup de sagesse on a beaucoup de chagrin, et celui qui augmente sa science augmente sa douleur.
