12 Acuérdate de tu Creador ahora que eres joven y que aún no han llegado los tiempos difíciles; ya vendrán años en que digas: «No me trae ningún placer vivirlos.» 2 Hazlo ahora, cuando aún no se apaga la luz del sol, de la luna y de las estrellas, y cuando aún hay nubes después de la lluvia. 3 Llegará un día en que tiemblen los guardianes del palacio y se doblen los valientes; quedarán tan pocas molineras, que dejarán de moler; las que miran por las ventanas, comenzarán a perder la vista. 4 Cuando llegue ese día, se cerrarán las puertas que dan a la calle; el ruido del molino se irá apagando; las aves dejarán oír su canto, pero las canciones dejarán de oírse; 5 la altura causará miedo, y en el camino habrá peligros.
El almendro comenzará a florecer,
la langosta resultará una carga
y la alcaparra no servirá para nada.
Pues el hombre va a su hogar eterno,
y en la calle se escucha ya
a los que lloran su muerte.
6 Acuérdate de tu Creador ahora que aún no se ha roto el cordón de plata ni se ha hecho pedazos la olla de oro; ahora que aún no se ha roto el cántaro a la orilla de la fuente ni se ha hecho pedazos la polea del pozo. 7 Después de eso el polvo volverá a la tierra, como antes fue, y el espíritu volverá a Dios, que es quien lo dio.
8 Yo, el Predicador, repito:
¡Vana ilusión, vana ilusión!
¡Todo es vana ilusión!
9 Y mientras más sabio llegó a ser el Predicador, más conocimientos impartió a la gente. También se dio a la tarea de estudiar gran número de proverbios, y de clasificarlos ordenadamente. 10 Hizo todo lo posible por encontrar las palabras más adecuadas, para escribir convenientemente dichos verdaderos.
11 Los dichos de los sabios son como aguijones, y una vez reunidos en colecciones son como estacas bien clavadas, puestas por un solo pastor. 12 Lo que uno saca de ellos son grandes advertencias. El hacer muchos libros no tiene fin, y el mucho estudio cansa.
13 El discurso ha terminado. Ya todo ha sido dicho. Honra a Dios y cumple sus mandamientos, porque eso es el todo del hombre. 14 Dios habrá de pedirnos cuentas de todos nuestros actos, sean buenos o malos, y aunque los hayamos hecho en secreto.

12 Acuérdate de tu Creador
en los días de tu juventud,
antes de que lleguen los días malos
y vengan los años en que digas:
«No encuentro en ellos placer alguno»;
2 antes de que dejen de brillar
el sol y la luz, la luna y las estrellas,
y vuelvan las nubes después de la lluvia.
3 Un día temblarán los guardianes de la casa
y los fuertes caminarán encorvados;
se detendrán las que muelen por ser pocas,
y verán borrosos los que miran por las ventanas.
4 Se irán cerrando las puertas de la calle,
irá disminuyendo el ruido del molino;
las aves elevarán su canto,
pero apagados se oirán sus trinos.
5 Sobrevendrá el temor por las alturas
y por los peligros del camino.
Florecerá el almendro,
la langosta resultará onerosa
y se perderá el deseo,
pues el hombre se encamina al hogar eterno
y rondan ya en la calle los que lloran su muerte.
6 Acuérdate de tu Creador
antes de que se rompa el cordón de plata
y se quiebre la vasija de oro,
y se estrelle el cántaro contra la fuente
y se rompa la polea del pozo.
7 Volverá entonces el polvo a la tierra,
como antes fue
y el espíritu volverá a Dios,
que es quien lo dio.
8 Vanidad de vanidades,
¡todo es vanidad!
—dice el Maestro.
Epílogo
9 Además de ser sabio, el Maestro impartió conocimientos a la gente. Ponderó, investigó y ordenó muchísimos proverbios. 10 Procuró también hallar las palabras más adecuadas y escribirlas con honradez y veracidad.
11 Las palabras de los sabios son como aguijones. Como clavos bien puestos son sus colecciones de dichos, dados por un solo pastor. 12 Además de ellas, hijo mío, ten presente que el hacer muchos libros es algo interminable y que el mucho leer causa fatiga.
13 El fin de este asunto
es que ya se ha escuchado todo.
Teme a Dios y cumple sus mandamientos,
porque esto es todo para el hombre.
14 Pues Dios juzgará toda obra,
buena o mala,
aun la realizada en secreto.

12 Por kujto Krijuesin tënd në ditët e rinisë sate, para se të vijnë ditët e këqija dhe të arrijnë vitet për të cilat ke për të thënë: "Nuk gjej asnjë kënaqësi në to,"
2 para se të errësohet dielli, drita, hëna dhe yjet, dhe të kthehen retë pas shiut;
3 në moshën gjatë së cilës rojtarët e shtëpisë dridhen, njerëzit e fortë përkulen, ato që bluajnë nuk punojnë më se kanë mbetur pak, ata që shikojnë nga dritaret errësohen
4 dhe portat mbi rrugë mbyllen; kur pakësohet zhurma e mokrës, dikush çohet me këngën e një zogu, dhe gjithë bijat e këngës dobësohen;
5 kur dikush ka frikë nga lartësitë dhe nga tmerret e rrugës; kur bajamja lulëzon, karkaleci është një peshë, dhe dëshira pakësohet, sepse njeriu shkon në banesën e tij të përjetshme dhe qaramanët enden rrugëve.
6 Kujto Krijuesin tënd përpara se të këputet kordoni prej argjendi, të thyhet vazoja prej ari, të thyhet shtamba te burimi dhe të bëhet copë-copë çikriku në pus,
7 dhe pluhuri t’i kthehet tokës siç ishte më parë dhe fryma t’i kthehet Perëndisë që e ka dhënë.
8 "Kotësi e kotësive," thotë Predikuesi, "gjithçka është kotësi".
9 Predikuesi, përveç se ka qenë një i urtë, i ka mësuar gjithashtu popullit dijen dhe ka peshuar, ka kërkuar dhe ka renditur një numër të madh fjalësh të urta.
10 Predikuesi është përpjekur të gjejë fjalë të këndshme; dhe gjërat e shkruara janë të drejta dhe të vërteta.
11 Fjalët e të urtëve janë si hostenë dhe ato që mbledhin njerëzit e ditur janë si gozhda të ngulura mirë; ato jepen nga një Bari i vetëm.
12 Biri im, ruhu nga çdo gjë që del jashtë kësaj. Shkruhen shumë libra, por nuk mbarohet kurrë kjo punë, dhe studimi i tepërt e lodh trupin.
13 Të dëgjojmë, pra, përfundimin e gjithë ligjëratës: "Ki frikë nga Perëndia dhe respekto urdhërimet e tij, sepse kjo është tërësia e njeriut".

12 Remember(A) your Creator
in the days of your youth,
before the days of trouble(B) come
and the years approach when you will say,
“I find no pleasure in them”—
2 before the sun and the light
and the moon and the stars grow dark,
and the clouds return after the rain;
3 when the keepers of the house tremble,
and the strong men stoop,
when the grinders cease because they are few,
and those looking through the windows grow dim;
4 when the doors to the street are closed
and the sound of grinding fades;
when people rise up at the sound of birds,
but all their songs grow faint;(C)
5 when people are afraid of heights
and of dangers in the streets;
when the almond tree blossoms
and the grasshopper drags itself along
and desire no longer is stirred.
Then people go to their eternal home(D)
and mourners(E) go about the streets.
6 Remember him—before the silver cord is severed,
and the golden bowl is broken;
before the pitcher is shattered at the spring,
and the wheel broken at the well,
7 and the dust returns(F) to the ground it came from,
and the spirit returns to God(G) who gave it.(H)
The Conclusion of the Matter
9 Not only was the Teacher wise, but he also imparted knowledge to the people. He pondered and searched out and set in order many proverbs.(K) 10 The Teacher(L) searched to find just the right words, and what he wrote was upright and true.(M)
11 The words of the wise are like goads, their collected sayings like firmly embedded nails(N)—given by one shepherd.[b] 12 Be warned, my son, of anything in addition to them.
Of making many books there is no end, and much study wearies the body.(O)
