⁵ Whoever keeps a command will know no evil thing, and the wise heart will know the proper time and the just way.^[a]

¹⁴ But solid food is for ^(A)the mature, for those who have their powers ^(B)of discernment trained by constant practice to distinguish good from evil.

¹³ Now ^(A)who is there to harm you if you are zealous for what is good? ^14 (B)But even if you should suffer for righteousness' sake, you will be blessed. ^(C)Have no fear of them, ^(D)nor be troubled,

⁹ And it is my prayer that ^(A)your love may abound more and more, ^(B)with knowledge and all discernment, ¹⁰ so that you may approve what is excellent, ^(C)and so be pure and blameless ^(D)for the day of Christ,

¹⁴ The natural person does not accept the things of the Spirit of God, for they are ^(A)folly to him, and ^(B)he is not able to understand them because they are spiritually discerned. ¹⁵ The ^(C)spiritual person judges all things, but is himself to be judged by no one.

⁵ Therefore one must be in subjection, not only to avoid God's wrath but also ^(A)for the sake of conscience. ⁶ For because of this you also pay taxes, for the authorities are ministers of God, attending to this very thing. ^7 (B)Pay to all what is owed to them: taxes to whom taxes are owed, revenue to whom revenue is owed, respect to whom respect is owed, honor to whom honor is owed.

¹⁹ But Peter and John answered them, ^(A)“Whether it is right in the sight of God to listen to you rather than to God, you must judge,

²⁵ He said to them, “Then ^(A)render to Caesar the things that are Caesar's, and to God the things that are God's.”

³² Of Issachar, men who ^(A)had understanding of the times, to know what Israel ought to do, 200 chiefs, and all their kinsmen under their command.

²⁹ But Peter and the apostles answered, ^(A)“We must obey God rather than men.
