In those days Israel had no king;(A) everyone did as they saw fit.(B)

A young Levite(C) from Bethlehem in Judah,(D) who had been living within the clan of Judah, left that town in search of some other place to stay. On his way[a] he came to Micah’s house in the hill country of Ephraim.

Now there was a young man from (C)Bethlehem in Judah, of the family of Judah; he was a Levite, and (D)was staying there. The man departed from the city of Bethlehem in Judah to stay wherever he could find a place. Then he came to the mountains of Ephraim, to the house of Micah, as he journeyed.
