10 Efter Abimelek uppstod till Israels frälsning Tola, son till Pua, son till Dodo, en man från Isaskar; och han bodde i Samir, i Efraims bergsbygd.
2 Han var domare i Israel i tjugutre år; sedan dog han och blev begraven i Samir.
3 Efter honom uppstod gileaditen Jair. Han var domare i Israel i tjugutvå år.
4 Han hade trettio söner, som plägade rida på trettio åsnor; och de hade trettio städer. Dessa kallar man ännu i dag Jairs byar, och de ligga i Gileads land.
5 Och Jair dog och blev begraven i Kamon.
6 Men Israels barn gjorde åter vad ont var i HERRENS ögon och tjänade Baalerna och Astarterna, så ock Arams, Sidons, Moabs, Ammons barns och filistéernas gudar och övergåvo HERREN och tjänade honom icke.
7 Då upptändes HERRENS vrede mot Israel, och han sålde dem i filistéernas och Ammons barns hand.
8 Och dessa plågade Israels barn och förforo våldsamt mot dem det året; i aderton år gjorde de så mot alla de israeliter som bodde på andra sidan Jordan, i amoréernas land, i Gilead.
9 Därtill gingo Ammons barn över Jordan och gåvo sig i strid också med Juda, Benjamin och Efraims hus, så att Israel kom i stor nöd.
10 Då ropade Israels barn till HERREN och sade: »Vi hava syndat mot dig, ty vi hava övergivit vår Gud och tjänat Baalerna.»
11 Men HERREN sade till Israels barn: »Har jag icke frälst eder från egyptierna, amoréerna, Ammons barn och filistéerna?
12 Likaledes bleven I förtryckta av sidonierna, amalekiterna och maoniterna; och när I ropaden till mig, frälste jag eder från deras hand.
13 Men I haven nu övergivit mig och tjänat andra gudar; därför vill jag icke mer frälsa eder.
14 Gån bort och ropen till de gudar som I haven utvalt; må de frälsa eder, om I nu ären i nöd.
15 Då sade Israels barn till HERREN: »Vi hava syndat; gör du med oss alldeles såsom dig täckes. Allenast rädda oss nu denna gång.»
16 Därefter skaffade de bort ifrån sig de främmande gudarna och tjänade HERREN. Då kunde han icke längre lida att se Israels vedermöda.
17 Och Ammons barn blevo uppbådade och lägrade sig i Gilead; men Israels barn församlade sig och lägrade sig i Mispa.
18 Då sade folket, nämligen de överste i Gilead, till varandra: »Vem vill begynna striden mot Ammons barn? Den som det vill skall bliva hövding över alla Gileads inbyggare.»

10 Und nach Abimelech stand Tola[a] auf, ein Sohn Puas, des Sohnes Dodos, ein Mann von Issaschar, um Israel zu retten. Und er wohnte in Schamir auf dem Bergland Ephraim.
2 Und er richtete Israel 23 Jahre lang. Danach starb er und wurde in Schamir begraben.
3 Nach ihm stand Jair[b], ein Gileaditer, auf und richtete Israel 22 Jahre lang.
4 Er hatte 30 Söhne, die auf 30 Eselsfüllen ritten, und sie besaßen 30 Städte, die heißen »Dörfer Jairs« bis zu diesem Tag und liegen im Land Gilead.
5 Und Jair starb und wurde in Kamon begraben.
Israel wird den Philistern und Ammonitern unterworfen
6 Aber die Kinder Israels taten wieder, was in den Augen des Herrn böse war, und dienten den Baalen und Astarten und den Göttern der Aramäer und den Göttern der Zidonier und den Göttern der Moabiter und den Göttern der Ammoniter und den Göttern der Philister; und sie verließen den Herrn und dienten ihm nicht.
7 Da entbrannte der Zorn des Herrn über Israel, und er verkaufte sie unter die Hand der Philister und der Ammoniter.
8 Und diese zerschlugen und unterdrückten die Kinder Israels in jenem Jahr und danach 18 Jahre lang, alle Kinder Israels jenseits des Jordan im Land der Amoriter, in Gilead.
9 Dazu zogen die Ammoniter über den Jordan und kämpften auch gegen Juda und gegen Benjamin und gegen das Haus Ephraim, sodass Israel sehr in Bedrängnis kam.
10 Da schrien die Kinder Israels zum Herrn und sprachen: Wir haben an dir gesündigt, denn wir haben unseren Gott verlassen und den Baalen gedient!
11 Aber der Herr sprach zu den Kindern Israels: Habe ich euch nicht von den Ägyptern, von den Amoritern, von den Ammonitern und von den Philistern errettet?
12 Und als die Zidonier, die Amalekiter und die Maoniter euch unterdrückten, habe ich euch nicht aus ihren Händen errettet, als ihr zu mir geschrien habt?
13 Dennoch habt ihr mich verlassen und anderen Göttern gedient; darum will ich euch nicht mehr retten!
14 Geht hin und schreit zu den Göttern, die ihr erwählt habt; die sollen euch retten zur Zeit eurer Not!
15 Aber die Kinder Israels sprachen zum Herrn: Wir haben gesündigt; mache du mit uns, was dir gefällt; nur errette uns noch dieses Mal[c]!
16 Und sie taten die fremden Götter von sich und dienten dem Herrn. Da wurde er unwillig über das Elend Israels.
17 Und die Ammoniter wurden zusammengerufen und lagerten sich in Gilead. Und die Söhne Israels versammelten sich und lagerten sich in Mizpa.
18 Aber das Volk, die Obersten von Gilead, sprachen zueinander: Wer ist der Mann, der den Kampf gegen die Ammoniter beginnen will? Der soll das Haupt sein über alle Einwohner von Gilead!

10 After the time of Abimelek,(A) a man of Issachar(B) named Tola son of Puah,(C) the son of Dodo, rose to save(D) Israel. He lived in Shamir,(E) in the hill country of Ephraim. 2 He led[a] Israel twenty-three years; then he died, and was buried in Shamir.
Jair
3 He was followed by Jair(F) of Gilead, who led Israel twenty-two years. 4 He had thirty sons, who rode thirty donkeys.(G) They controlled thirty towns in Gilead, which to this day are called Havvoth Jair.[b](H) 5 When Jair(I) died, he was buried in Kamon.
Jephthah
6 Again the Israelites did evil in the eyes of the Lord.(J) They served the Baals and the Ashtoreths,(K) and the gods of Aram,(L) the gods of Sidon,(M) the gods of Moab, the gods of the Ammonites(N) and the gods of the Philistines.(O) And because the Israelites forsook the Lord(P) and no longer served him, 7 he became angry(Q) with them. He sold them(R) into the hands of the Philistines and the Ammonites, 8 who that year shattered and crushed them. For eighteen years they oppressed all the Israelites on the east side of the Jordan in Gilead,(S) the land of the Amorites. 9 The Ammonites also crossed the Jordan to fight against Judah,(T) Benjamin and Ephraim;(U) Israel was in great distress. 10 Then the Israelites cried(V) out to the Lord, “We have sinned(W) against you, forsaking our God and serving the Baals.”(X)
11 The Lord replied, “When the Egyptians,(Y) the Amorites,(Z) the Ammonites,(AA) the Philistines,(AB) 12 the Sidonians, the Amalekites(AC) and the Maonites[c](AD) oppressed you(AE) and you cried to me for help, did I not save you from their hands? 13 But you have forsaken(AF) me and served other gods,(AG) so I will no longer save you. 14 Go and cry out to the gods you have chosen. Let them save(AH) you when you are in trouble!(AI)”
15 But the Israelites said to the Lord, “We have sinned. Do with us whatever you think best,(AJ) but please rescue us now.” 16 Then they got rid of the foreign gods among them and served the Lord.(AK) And he could bear Israel’s misery(AL) no longer.(AM)
17 When the Ammonites were called to arms and camped in Gilead, the Israelites assembled and camped at Mizpah.(AN) 18 The leaders of the people of Gilead said to each other, “Whoever will take the lead in attacking the Ammonites will be head(AO) over all who live in Gilead.”

2 And he judged Israel twenty and three years, and died, and was buried in Shamir.
3 And after him arose Jair, a Gileadite, and judged Israel twenty and two years.
4 And he had thirty sons that rode on thirty ass colts, and they had thirty cities, which are called Havothjair unto this day, which are in the land of Gilead.
5 And Jair died, and was buried in Camon.
6 And the children of Israel did evil again in the sight of the Lord, and served Baalim, and Ashtaroth, and the gods of Syria, and the gods of Zidon, and the gods of Moab, and the gods of the children of Ammon, and the gods of the Philistines, and forsook the Lord, and served not him.
7 And the anger of the Lord was hot against Israel, and he sold them into the hands of the Philistines, and into the hands of the children of Ammon.
8 And that year they vexed and oppressed the children of Israel: eighteen years, all the children of Israel that were on the other side Jordan in the land of the Amorites, which is in Gilead.
9 Moreover the children of Ammon passed over Jordan to fight also against Judah, and against Benjamin, and against the house of Ephraim; so that Israel was sore distressed.
10 And the children of Israel cried unto the Lord, saying, We have sinned against thee, both because we have forsaken our God, and also served Baalim.
11 And the Lord said unto the children of Israel, Did not I deliver you from the Egyptians, and from the Amorites, from the children of Ammon, and from the Philistines?
12 The Zidonians also, and the Amalekites, and the Maonites, did oppress you; and ye cried to me, and I delivered you out of their hand.
13 Yet ye have forsaken me, and served other gods: wherefore I will deliver you no more.
14 Go and cry unto the gods which ye have chosen; let them deliver you in the time of your tribulation.
15 And the children of Israel said unto the Lord, We have sinned: do thou unto us whatsoever seemeth good unto thee; deliver us only, we pray thee, this day.
16 And they put away the strange gods from among them, and served the Lord: and his soul was grieved for the misery of Israel.
17 Then the children of Ammon were gathered together, and encamped in Gilead. And the children of Israel assembled themselves together, and encamped in Mizpeh.
18 And the people and princes of Gilead said one to another, What man is he that will begin to fight against the children of Ammon? he shall be head over all the inhabitants of Gilead.
