“Hear, O Israel: (A)The Lord our God, the Lord is one.[a] You (B)shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your might. And (C)these words that I command you today shall be on your heart. (D)You shall teach them diligently to your children, and shall talk of them when you sit in your house, and when you walk by the way, and when you lie down, and when you rise. (E)You shall bind them as a sign on your hand, and they shall be as frontlets between your eyes. (F)You shall write them on the doorposts of your house and on your gates.

14 Do all things (A)without grumbling or (B)disputing, 15 that you may be blameless and innocent, (C)children of God (D)without blemish (E)in the midst of (F)a crooked and twisted generation, among whom you shine (G)as lights in the world, 16 holding fast to (H)the word of life, so that in (I)the day of Christ (J)I may be proud that (K)I did not run in vain or labor in vain.

Walking in the Light

(A)This is the message we have heard from him and proclaim to you, that (B)God is light, and in him is no darkness at all. (C)If we say we have fellowship with him while we walk in darkness, we lie and (D)do not practice the truth. But (E)if we walk in the light, (F)as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and (G)the blood of Jesus his Son cleanses us from all sin. (H)If we say we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and (I)the truth is not in us. (J)If we confess our sins, he is (K)faithful and just to forgive us our sins and (L)to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. 10 If we say we have not sinned, (M)we make him a liar, and (N)his word is not in us.

Keep in Step with the Spirit

16 But I say, (A)walk by the Spirit, and you will not gratify (B)the desires of the flesh. 17 For (C)the desires of the flesh are against the Spirit, and the desires of the Spirit are against the flesh, for these are opposed to each other, (D)to keep you from doing the things you want to do. 18 But if you are (E)led by the Spirit, (F)you are not under the law. 19 Now (G)the works of the flesh are evident: sexual immorality, impurity, sensuality, 20 idolatry, sorcery, enmity, strife, jealousy, fits of anger, rivalries, dissensions, (H)divisions, 21 envy,[a] drunkenness, orgies, and things like these. I warn you, as I warned you before, that (I)those who do[b] such things will not inherit the kingdom of God. 22 But (J)the fruit of the Spirit is (K)love, joy, peace, patience, (L)kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23 (M)gentleness, (N)self-control; (O)against such things there is no law. 24 And those who belong to Christ Jesus (P)have crucified the flesh with its (Q)passions and desires.

25 If we live by the Spirit, (R)let us also keep in step with the Spirit. 26 (S)Let us not become conceited, provoking one another, envying one another.
