17 You must not sacrifice to the Lord your God an ox or a sheep that has a defect, anything seriously wrong; for that is abhorrent to the Lord your God.
2 If there is found among you, in one of your towns that the Lord your God is giving you, a man or woman who does what is evil in the sight of the Lord your God, and transgresses his covenant 3 by going to serve other gods and worshiping them—whether the sun or the moon or any of the host of heaven, which I have forbidden— 4 and if it is reported to you or you hear of it, and you make a thorough inquiry, and the charge is proved true that such an abhorrent thing has occurred in Israel, 5 then you shall bring out to your gates that man or that woman who has committed this crime and you shall stone the man or woman to death. 6 On the evidence of two or three witnesses the death sentence shall be executed; a person must not be put to death on the evidence of only one witness. 7 The hands of the witnesses shall be the first raised against the person to execute the death penalty, and afterward the hands of all the people. So you shall purge the evil from your midst.
Legal Decisions by Priests and Judges
8 If a judicial decision is too difficult for you to make between one kind of bloodshed and another, one kind of legal right and another, or one kind of assault and another—any such matters of dispute in your towns—then you shall immediately go up to the place that the Lord your God will choose, 9 where you shall consult with the levitical priests and the judge who is in office in those days; they shall announce to you the decision in the case. 10 Carry out exactly the decision that they announce to you from the place that the Lord will choose, diligently observing everything they instruct you. 11 You must carry out fully the law that they interpret for you or the ruling that they announce to you; do not turn aside from the decision that they announce to you, either to the right or to the left. 12 As for anyone who presumes to disobey the priest appointed to minister there to the Lord your God, or the judge, that person shall die. So you shall purge the evil from Israel. 13 All the people will hear and be afraid, and will not act presumptuously again.
Limitations of Royal Authority
14 When you have come into the land that the Lord your God is giving you, and have taken possession of it and settled in it, and you say, “I will set a king over me, like all the nations that are around me,” 15 you may indeed set over you a king whom the Lord your God will choose. One of your own community you may set as king over you; you are not permitted to put a foreigner over you, who is not of your own community. 16 Even so, he must not acquire many horses for himself, or return the people to Egypt in order to acquire more horses, since the Lord has said to you, “You must never return that way again.” 17 And he must not acquire many wives for himself, or else his heart will turn away; also silver and gold he must not acquire in great quantity for himself. 18 When he has taken the throne of his kingdom, he shall have a copy of this law written for him in the presence of the levitical priests. 19 It shall remain with him and he shall read in it all the days of his life, so that he may learn to fear the Lord his God, diligently observing all the words of this law and these statutes, 20 neither exalting himself above other members of the community nor turning aside from the commandment, either to the right or to the left, so that he and his descendants may reign long over his kingdom in Israel.

14 (D)«Quando sarai entrato nel paese che il Signore, il tuo Dio, ti dà e ne avrai preso possesso e lo abiterai, forse dirai: “Voglio avere un re come tutte le nazioni che mi circondano”. 15 Allora dovrai mettere su di te come re colui che il Signore, il tuo Dio, avrà scelto. Metterai su di te come re uno del tuo popolo; non metterai come re uno straniero che non sia del tuo popolo. 16 Però non dovrà avere molti cavalli e non dovrà ricondurre il popolo in Egitto per procurarseli, poiché il Signore vi ha detto: “Non rifarete mai più quella via”. 17 Non dovrà neppure avere molte mogli, affinché non perverta il suo cuore; neppure dovrà avere grande quantità d’argento e d’oro. 18 E quando si insedierà sul suo trono reale, scriverà per suo uso, in un libro, una copia di questa legge secondo l’esemplare dei sacerdoti levitici. 19 Terrà il libro presso di sé e lo leggerà tutti i giorni della sua vita, per imparare a temere il Signore, il suo Dio, a mettere diligentemente in pratica tutte le parole di questa legge e tutte queste prescrizioni, 20 affinché il suo cuore non si elevi al di sopra dei suoi fratelli ed egli non devii da questi comandamenti né a destra né a sinistra. Così prolungherà i suoi giorni nel suo regno, egli con i suoi figli, in mezzo a Israele.

17 Du sollst dem Herrn, deinem Gott, kein Rind und kein Schaf opfern, das einen Fehler oder sonst etwas Schlimmes an sich hat; denn das wäre dem Herrn, deinem Gott, ein Gräuel.
2 Wenn in deiner Mitte, in einem deiner Tore, die der Herr, dein Gott, dir gibt, ein Mann oder eine Frau gefunden wird, die tun, was vor den Augen des Herrn böse ist, sodass sie seinen Bund übertreten
3 und hingehen und anderen Göttern dienen und sie anbeten, es sei die Sonne oder den Mond oder das gesamte Heer des Himmels, was ich nicht geboten habe,
4 und es wird dir gesagt und du hörst es, so sollst du gründlich nachforschen. Und siehe, wenn es wahr ist und die Sache feststeht, dass ein solcher Gräuel in Israel begangen wurde,
5 so sollst du jenen Mann oder jene Frau, die diese böse Sache getan haben, zu deinen Toren hinausführen, den Mann oder die Frau, und sollst sie zu Tode steinigen.
6 Wer des Todes schuldig ist, soll auf die Aussage von zwei oder drei Zeugen hin getötet werden. Aber auf die Aussage eines einzigen Zeugen hin soll er nicht getötet werden.
7 Die Hand der Zeugen soll sich als erste gegen ihn erheben, um ihn zu töten, danach die Hand des ganzen Volkes! So sollst du das Böse aus deiner Mitte ausrotten.
Schwierige Rechtsfälle
8 Wenn es dir zu schwer wird, ein Urteil zu fällen in Sachen eines Mordes oder eines Streites oder einer Körperverletzung, bei irgendeiner Streitsache, die innerhalb deiner Tore vorkommt, dann mache dich auf und geh hinauf an den Ort, den der Herr, dein Gott, erwählen wird.
9 Und du sollst zu den Priestern, den Leviten, und zu dem Richter kommen, der zu jener Zeit [im Amt] sein wird, und fragen; sie sollen dir das Urteil sprechen.
10 Und du sollst nach dem Urteilsspruch handeln, den sie dir von jenem Ort aus verkünden, den der Herr erwählen wird, und sollst darauf achten, dass du tust nach allem, was sie dich lehren werden.
11 Nach dem Gesetz, das sie dich lehren, und nach dem Urteil, das sie dir fällen, sollst du handeln; du sollst von dem Urteilsspruch, den sie dir verkünden, weder zur Rechten noch zur Linken abweichen.
12 Der Mann aber, der so vermessen wäre, dass er dem Priester, der dort steht, um dem Herrn, deinem Gott, zu dienen, oder dem Richter nicht gehorcht, jener Mann soll sterben! So sollst du das Böse aus Israel ausrotten.
13 Und das ganze Volk soll es hören und sich fürchten und nicht mehr vermessen sein.
Das Königsgesetz
14 Wenn du in das Land kommst, das der Herr, dein Gott, dir gibt, und es in Besitz nimmst und darin wohnst und dann sagst: »Ich will einen König über mich setzen, wie alle Heidenvölker, die um mich her sind!«,
15 so sollst du nur den zum König über dich setzen, den der Herr, dein Gott, erwählen wird. Aus der Mitte deiner Brüder sollst du einen König über dich setzen; du kannst keinen Fremden über dich setzen, der nicht dein Bruder ist.
16 Nur soll er nicht viele Pferde halten und das Volk nicht wieder nach Ägypten führen, um die Zahl seiner Pferde zu vermehren, da doch der Herr euch gesagt hat: Ihr sollt nie mehr auf diesem Weg zurückkehren!
17 Er soll auch nicht viele Frauen nehmen, damit sein Herz nicht auf Abwege gerät; auch soll er sich nicht zu viel Silber und Gold aufhäufen.
18 Wenn er dann auf seinem königlichen Thron sitzt, so soll er eine Abschrift dieses Gesetzes, das vor den levitischen Priestern liegt, in ein Buch schreiben [lassen].
19 Und dieses soll bei ihm sein, und er soll darin lesen alle Tage seines Lebens, damit er lernt, den Herrn, seinen Gott, zu fürchten, damit er alle Worte dieses Gesetzes und diese Satzungen bewahrt und sie tut;
20 dass sich sein Herz nicht über seine Brüder erhebt und er nicht abweicht von dem Gebot, weder zur Rechten noch zur Linken, damit er die Tage seiner Königsherrschaft verlängere, er und seine Söhne, in der Mitte Israels.

A bálványimádó izráeliek büntetése
2 Ha majd azon a földön laktok, amelyet Istenünk, az Örökkévaló ad nektek, megtörténhet, hogy valamelyik városban vagy faluban közületek valaki — akár férfi, akár nő — megtöri az Örökkévalóval kötött szövetséget, 3 és más isteneket vagy a napot, a holdat vagy az ég seregeit imádja, annak ellenére, hogy ezt az Örökkévaló megtiltotta. 4 Ha ilyenről hírt hallotok, vagy a tudomásotokra jut, alaposan ki kell vizsgálnotok, hogy mi történt.

Ítélethozatal nehéz esetekben
8-9 Ha a városotokban olyan üggyel találkoztok, amely túl nehéznek, bonyolultnak tűnik a helyi bíróság számára, akkor menjetek föl arra a helyre, amelyet Istenünk, az Örökkévaló kiválaszt, és forduljatok a lévita papokhoz és ahhoz a bíróhoz, aki abban az időben betölti ezt a tisztséget. Tárd eléjük az ügyet, és majd ők határozatot hoznak. Ilyen ügy lehet például a szándékos vagy véletlen emberölés, különböző jogviták, birtokviták, vagy a testi sértés esete. 10-11 Miután a helyi bíróság tisztségviselői visszatérnek a városukba, mindenben aszerint kell eljárniuk, ahogyan a lévita papok és a bíró értelmezte a törvényt ebben az esetben, és ahogyan ők határoztak. 2 Il se peut que vous trouviez parmi vous, dans l’une des villes que l’Eternel votre Dieu va vous donner, un homme ou une femme qui fasse ce que l’Eternel votre Dieu considère comme mal et qui transgresse son alliance, 3 en allant rendre un culte à d’autres dieux et se prosterner devant eux, devant le soleil, la lune ou toute la multitude des étoiles, contrairement à ce que j’ai ordonné. 4 Dès que le fait vous aura été rapporté et que vous en aurez connaissance, vous ferez une enquête minutieuse. Si la chose est vraie, s’il est établi qu’une telle abomination a été commise en Israël, 5 vous amènerez aux portes de la ville[a] celui ou celle qui s’est rendu coupable de cette mauvaise action, et vous l’exécuterez par lapidation.

Le roi
14 Lorsque vous serez entrés dans le pays que l’Eternel vous donne, que vous en aurez pris possession et que vous y serez installés, il se peut que vous disiez : « Donnons-nous un roi comme tous les peuples qui nous entourent[d]. » 15 Vous établirez alors sur vous le roi que l’Eternel votre Dieu aura choisi[e] ; c’est l’un de vos compatriotes que vous prendrez pour régner sur vous ; vous ne pourrez pas choisir un étranger pour roi. 16 Ce roi ne devra pas avoir une importante cavalerie, et il ne renverra pas le peuple en Egypte pour s’y procurer des chevaux en grand nombre. Car l’Eternel vous a dit : « Vous ne retournerez plus par ce chemin-là. » 17 Qu’il ne prenne pas un grand nombre de femmes, pour qu’il ne se corrompe pas. Qu’il n’amasse pas non plus de grandes quantités d’argent et d’or[f].
18 Quand il accédera au trône, il écrira sur un livre pour son usage personnel, une copie de cette Loi que lui communiqueront les prêtres-lévites. 19 Cette copie ne le quittera pas, il y lira tous les jours de sa vie afin qu’il apprenne à craindre l’Eternel son Dieu, en obéissant à toute cette Loi et en appliquant toutes ces ordonnances. 20 Ainsi, il ne s’enorgueillira pas pour s’élever au-dessus de ses compatriotes et il ne déviera de la Loi ni dans un sens ni dans l’autre. De la sorte, il s’assurera, ainsi qu’à ses descendants, un long règne sur le trône d’Israël.
