⁵^(A)Thus you shall know in your heart that Yahweh your God was disciplining you just as a man disciplines his son.

Deuteronomy 8:5

New International Version

⁵Know then in your heart that as a man disciplines his son, so the Lord your God disciplines you.^(A)

²⁴He who ^(A)holds back his ^[a]rod hates his son,
But he who loves him ^[b]^(B)disciplines him diligently.

²⁴Whoever spares the rod^(A) hates their children,
but the one who loves their children is careful to discipline^(B) them.^(C)
