²⁴ And all the nations will say, ‘^(A)Why has Yahweh done thus to this land? Why this great burning anger?’ ²⁵ Then men will say, ‘^(B)Because they forsook the covenant of Yahweh, the God of their fathers, which He cut with them when He brought them out of the land of Egypt. ²⁶ And they went and served other gods and worshiped them, gods whom they have not known and whom He had not apportioned to them.

⁸ And this house will become ^[a](A)a heap of ruins; everyone who passes by will feel desolate and hiss and say, ‘^(B)Why has Yahweh done thus to this land and to this house?’ ⁹ And they will say, ‘^(C)Because they forsook Yahweh their God, who brought their fathers out of the land of Egypt, and took hold of other gods and worshiped them and served them, therefore Yahweh has brought all this calamity on them.’”

¹⁰ “Now when you tell this people all these words, they will say to you, ‘^(A)For what reason has Yahweh declared all this great calamity against us? And what is our iniquity, or what is our sin which we have committed against Yahweh our God?’ ¹¹ Then you are to say to them, ‘It is ^(B)because your fathers have forsaken Me,’ declares Yahweh, ‘and have walked after ^(C)other gods and served them and worshiped them; but Me they have forsaken and have not kept My law. ¹² You too have done evil, even ^(D)more than your fathers; for behold, you are each one walking according to the ^(E)stubbornness of his own ^(F)evil heart, without listening to Me. ¹³ So I will ^(G)hurl you out of this land into the ^(H)land which you have not known, neither you nor your fathers; and there you will ^(I)serve other gods day and night, for I will grant you no favor.’
