“And all the people will answer, ‘Amen!’

^4 (A)For God said, ‘Respect your father and your mother,’ and ‘If you curse your father or your mother, you are to be put to death.’

¹⁹ The sound of the trumpet became louder and louder. Moses spoke, and God answered him with thunder.

^10 (A)For Moses commanded, ‘Respect your father and your mother,’ and, ‘If you curse your father or your mother, you are to be put to death.’

¹⁹ And the Lord changed the east wind into a very strong west wind, which picked up the locusts and blew them into the Gulf of Suez.^[a] Not one locust was left in all of Egypt.

^20 (A)You know the commandments: ‘Do not commit adultery; do not commit murder; do not steal; do not accuse anyone falsely; respect your father and your mother.’”

^2 (A)“Respect your father and mother” is the first commandment that has a promise added:

^12 (A)“Respect your father and your mother, so that you may live a long time in the land that I am giving you.

³ “so that all may go well with you, and you may live a long time in the land.”
