26 Katso, minä asetan tänä päivänä teidän eteenne siunauksen ja kirouksen:
27 siunauksen, jos te tottelette Herran, teidän Jumalanne, käskyjä, jotka minä tänä päivänä teille annan,
28 mutta kirouksen, jos te ette tottele Herran, teidän Jumalanne, käskyjä, vaan poikkeatte siltä tieltä, jota minä tänä päivänä käsken teidän vaeltaa, ja seuraatte muita jumalia, joita te ette tunne.
29 Ja kun Herra, sinun Jumalasi, on vienyt sinut siihen maahan, jota sinä nyt menet omaksesi ottamaan, niin tee Garissimin vuoresta siunauksen paikka ja Eebalin vuoresta kirouksen paikka."
30 Ne ovat toisella puolella Jordanin, länteen päin auringonlaskun tiestä, kanaanilaisten maassa, niiden, jotka asuvat Aromaassa, vastapäätä Gilgalia, Mooren tammiston luona.
31 "Sillä te kuljette Jordanin yli ja menette ottamaan omaksenne sen maan, jonka Herra, teidän Jumalanne, teille antaa. Kun sitten olette ottaneet sen omaksenne ja asettuneet siihen,
32 niin noudattakaa tarkoin kaikkia niitä käskyjä ja oikeuksia, jotka minä tänä päivänä teille annan."
12 "Nämä ovat ne käskyt ja oikeudet, joita teidän on tarkoin noudatettava siinä maassa, jonka Herra, sinun isiesi Jumala, sinulle antaa, että ottaisit sen omaksesi - noudatettava niin kauan kuin elätte maan päällä.
2 Hävittäkää perin pohjin kaikki ne paikat, missä karkoittamanne kansat ovat jumaliansa palvelleet, korkeilla vuorilla, kukkuloilla tai viheriäin puiden alla.
3 Kukistakaa heidän alttarinsa, murskatkaa heidän patsaansa, polttakaa tulessa heidän asera-karsikkonsa ja hakatkaa maahan heidän jumaliensa kuvat, ja hävittäkää heidän nimensä niistä paikoista.
4 Palvellessanne Herraa, teidän Jumalaanne, älkää tehkö niinkuin he,
5 vaan se paikka, jonka Herra, teidän Jumalanne, valitsee teidän sukukuntienne alueelta ja johon hän asettaa nimensä asuaksensa siellä, se etsikää, ja mene sinne.
6 Ja sinne viekää polttouhrinne ja teurasuhrinne, kymmenyksenne, kätenne anti, lupausuhrinne ja vapaaehtoiset uhrinne sekä raavaittenne ja lampaittenne esikoiset.
7 Ja siellä syökää Herran, teidän Jumalanne, edessä, ja iloitkaa perheinenne kaikesta, mitä kätenne on hankkinut, millä Herra, sinun Jumalasi, on sinua siunannut.
8 Älkää tehkö, niinkuin me tässä tänä päivänä teemme, jokainen sitä, mikä hänen omasta mielestään on oikein,
9 sillä te ette vielä ole päässeet lepoon ettekä siihen perintömaahan, jonka Herra, sinun Jumalasi, on sinulle antava.
10 Mutta kun olette menneet Jordanin yli ja asettuneet siihen maahan, jonka Herra, teidän Jumalanne, jakaa teille perinnöksi, ja kun hän on suonut teidän päästä rauhaan kaikista vihollisistanne joka taholta, niin että asutte turvassa,
11 silloin viekää siihen paikkaan, jonka Herra, teidän Jumalanne, valitsee nimensä asuinsijaksi, kaikki, mitä minä käsken teidän viedä: polttouhrinne ja teurasuhrinne, kymmenyksenne, kätenne anti, niin myös kaikki parhaat lupausuhrinne, jotka te lupaatte Herralle.
12 Ja iloitkaa Herran, teidän Jumalanne, edessä, sekä te että teidän poikanne ja tyttärenne, palvelijanne ja palvelijattarenne, ja leeviläiset, jotka asuvat teidän porttienne sisäpuolella, sillä heillä ei ole osuutta eikä perintöosaa teidän rinnallanne.
13 Varo, ettet uhraa polttouhrejasi missä mieleisessäsi paikassa hyvänsä.
14 Vaan siinä paikassa, jonka Herra valitsee jonkun sinun sukukuntasi alueelta, siinä uhraa polttouhrisi ja tee kaikki, mitä minä käsken sinun tehdä.
15 Kuitenkin saat kaikkialla porttiesi sisäpuolella teurastaa mielinmäärin ja syödä lihaa, sen mukaan kuin Herra, sinun Jumalasi, sinulle siunaa. Sekä saastainen että puhdas saakoon syödä sitä, niinkuin syödään gasellia tai peuraa.
16 Vain verta älkää syökö, vuodattakaa se maahan niinkuin vesi.

20 Kun Herra, sinun Jumalasi, on laajentanut sinun alueesi, niinkuin hän on sinulle luvannut, ja sinä ajattelet: 'Minä tahdon syödä lihaa' - koska haluat syödä lihaa - niin syö lihaa mielinmäärin.
21 Jos se paikka, jonka Herra, sinun Jumalasi, valitsee asettaakseen siihen nimensä, on liian kaukana sinusta, niin teurasta, niinkuin minä olen sinua käskenyt, raavaitasi ja lampaitasi, joita Herra on sinulle antanut, ja syö niitä porttiesi sisäpuolella mielinmäärin.
22 Mutta syö niitä, niinkuin syödään gasellia ja peuraa; niinhyvin saastainen kuin puhdas saakoon syödä niitä.
23 Ole vain luja siinä, ettet syö verta; sillä veri on sielu, ja sielua sinun ei pidä syömän lihan kanssa.
24 Älä syö sitä; vuodata se maahan niinkuin vesi.
25 Älä syö sitä, että menestyisit, sinä ja sinun lapsesi sinun jälkeesi, kun teet, mikä oikeata on Herran silmissä.
26 Mutta pyhät lahjasi, jotka sinä tuot, sekä lupausuhrisi, ota ja vie siihen paikkaan, jonka Herra on valinnut.
27 Ja uhraa polttouhrisi, sekä liha että veri, Herran, sinun Jumalasi, alttarilla. Teurasuhreistasi vuodatettakoon veri Herran, sinun Jumalasi, alttarille, mutta lihan sinä saat syödä.
28 Noudata ja tottele kaikkia näitä sanoja, jotka minä sinulle annan, että menestyisit, sinä ja sinun lapsesi sinun jälkeesi, ikuisesti, kun teet sitä, mikä on hyvää ja oikeata Herran, sinun Jumalasi, silmissä.

30 niin varo, sittenkuin he ovat hävitetyt sinun tieltäsi, ettet kietoudu heidän pauloihinsa, heitä seuraamaan, ja ettet etsi heidän jumaliansa ja kysy: 'Miten oli näiden kansojen tapana palvella jumaliansa, että minäkin tekisin niin?'
31 Älä tee niin Herraa, sinun Jumalaasi, kohtaan, sillä kaikkea, mikä on Herralle kauhistus ja mitä hän vihaa, he ovat tehneet palvellessaan jumaliansa: omia poikiansakin ja tyttäriänsä he ovat jumalillensa polttaneet.
32 Kaikkea, mitä minä käsken, noudattakaa tarkoin. Älkää siihen mitään lisätkö älkääkä siitä mitään ottako pois."
13 "Jos teidän keskuuteenne ilmestyy profeetta tai unennäkijä ja lupaa sinulle jonkun tunnusteon tai ihmeen,
2 ja jos sitten todellakin tapahtuu se tunnusteko tai ihme, josta hän puhui sinulle sanoen: 'Lähtekäämme seuraamaan muita jumalia, joita te ette tunne, ja palvelkaamme niitä',
3 niin älä kuuntele sen profeetan puhetta tai sitä unennäkijää, sillä Herra, teidän Jumalanne, ainoastaan koettelee teitä tietääksensä, rakastatteko Herraa, teidän Jumalaanne, kaikesta sydämestänne ja kaikesta sielustanne.
4 Seuratkaa Herraa, teidän Jumalaanne, häntä peljätkää ja pitäkää hänen käskynsä, häntä kuulkaa, häntä palvelkaa ja hänessä kiinni riippukaa.
5 Mutta se profeetta tai unennäkijä surmattakoon, sillä hän on julistanut luopumusta Herrasta, teidän Jumalastanne, joka vei teidät pois Egyptin maasta ja vapahti sinut orjuuden pesästä, ja on tahtonut vietellä sinut siltä tieltä, jota Herra, sinun Jumalasi, käski sinun vaeltaa. Poista paha keskuudestasi.
6 Jos sinun veljesi, sinun äitisi poika, tai sinun poikasi tai tyttäresi tai vaimo, joka on sylissäsi, tai ystäväsi, joka on sinulle kuin oma sielusi, salaa houkuttelisi sinua ja sanoisi: 'Käykäämme palvelemaan muita jumalia', joita et sinä tunne eivätkä sinun isäsi tunteneet -
7 niiden kansojen jumalia, jotka asuvat teidän ympärillänne, lähellä sinua tai kaukana sinusta, maan äärestä toiseen -
8 niin älä noudata hänen mieltään äläkä kuule häntä; älä sääli äläkä armahda häntä äläkä salaa hänen rikostansa,
9 vaan tapa hänet: oma kätesi kohotkoon ensimmäisenä häntä vastaan surmatakseen hänet, ja sitten koko kansan käsi.
10 Kivitä hänet kuoliaaksi, sillä hän koetti saada sinut luopumaan Herrasta, sinun Jumalastasi, joka vei sinut pois Egyptin maasta, orjuuden pesästä.
11 Ja koko Israel kuulkoon sen ja peljätköön, ettei kukaan enää tekisi senkaltaista pahaa sinun keskuudessasi.
12 Jos sinä kuulet sanottavan, että jossakin kaupungeistasi, jotka Herra, sinun Jumalasi, antaa sinun asuttaviksesi,
13 sinun keskuudestasi on lähtenyt kelvottomia miehiä, jotka viettelevät kaupunkinsa asukkaita sanoen: 'Käykäämme palvelemaan muita jumalia', joita te ette tunne,
14 niin tutki, tiedustele ja kysele tarkoin; ja jos on totta ja varmaa, että sellaista kauhistusta on harjoitettu sinun keskuudessasi,
15 niin surmaa sen kaupungin asukkaat miekan terällä ja vihi tuhon omaksi se ja kaikki, mitä siinä on, ja tapa sen karjakin miekan terällä.
16 Ja kokoa kaikki siitä otettu saalis keskelle sen toria ja polta tulella sekä kaupunki että kaikki siitä otettu saalis kokonaisuhrina Herralle, sinun Jumalallesi; ja jääköön se rauniokummuksi iankaikkisesti, älköönkä sitä koskaan enää rakennettako.
17 Älköön siitä tuhon omaksi vihitystä mitään tarttuko sinun käsiisi, että Herra kääntyisi pois vihansa hehkusta, antaisi sinulle armon ja armahtaisi sinua ja sallisi sinun lisääntyä, niinkuin hän on vannonut sinun isillesi,
18 jos sinä vain kuulet Herran, sinun Jumalasi ääntä ja pidät kaikki hänen käskynsä, jotka minä tänä päivänä sinulle annan, ja teet sitä, mikä on oikein Herran, sinun Jumalasi, silmissä."
14 "Te olette Herran, teidän Jumalanne, lapsia. Älkää viileskelkö ihoanne älkääkä ajako paljaaksi päätänne otsapuolelta vainajan tähden,
2 sillä sinä olet Herralle, sinun Jumalallesi, pyhitetty kansa, ja Herra on valinnut sinut omaisuuskansakseen ennen kaikkia muita kansoja, mitä maan päällä on.
3 Älä syö mitään, mikä on kauhistus.
4 Nämä ovat ne nelijalkaiset eläimet, joita saatte syödä: raavas, lammas ja vuohi,
5 peura, gaselli, metsäkauris, vuorikauris, musta antilooppi, keihäsantilooppi ja betsoari-vuohi,
6 kaikki ne nelijalkaiset eläimet, joilla on kokonansa halkinaiset, kaksivarpaiset sorkat ja jotka märehtivät; niitä saatte syödä.
7 Näitä älkää kuitenkaan syökö niistä, jotka märehtivät, ja niistä, joilla on kokonansa halkinaiset sorkat: kamelia, jänistä ja tamaania, jotka kyllä märehtivät, mutta joilla ei ole sorkkia: ne olkoot teille saastaiset;
8 sikaa, jolla kyllä on sorkat, mutta joka ei märehdi: se olkoon teille saastainen. Näiden lihaa älkää syökö, ja niiden raatoihin älkää koskeko.
9 Näitä te saatte syödä kaikista vesieläimistä: kaikkia, joilla on evät ja suomukset, te saatte syödä.
10 Mutta kaikista niistä, joilla ei ole eviä eikä suomuksia, älkää syökö mitään: ne olkoot teille saastaiset.
11 Kaikkia puhtaita lintuja te saatte syödä.
12 Mutta nämä ovat linnuista ne, joita älkää syökö: kotka, partakorppikotka, harmaa korppikotka,
13 haarahaukka ja suohaukkalajit,
14 kaikki kaarnelajit,
15 kamelikurki, pääskynen, kalalokki, jalohaukkalajit,
16 huuhkaja, kissapöllö, sarvipöllö,
17 pelikaani, likakorppikotka, kalasääksi,
18 haikara, sirriäislajit, harjalintu ja yölepakko.
19 Myöskin kaikki siivelliset pikkueläimet olkoot teille saastaiset, niitä älköön syötäkö.
20 Kaikkia puhtaita siivellisiä te saatte syödä.
21 Älkää syökö mitään itsestään kuollutta. Muukalaiselle, joka sinun porteissasi on, sinä saat antaa sitä syötäväksi, tahi myy se vieraalle; sillä sinä olet Herralle, sinun Jumalallesi, pyhitetty kansa. Älä keitä vohlaa emänsä maidossa.
22 Kaikesta kylvösi sadosta, joka kasvaa pellollasi, anna joka vuosi kymmenykset,
23 ja syö ne Herran, sinun Jumalasi, edessä, siinä paikassa, jonka hän valitsee nimensä asuinsijaksi: kymmenykset jyvistäsi, viinistäsi ja öljystäsi, niin myös raavaittesi ja lampaittesi esikoiset, että oppisit pelkäämään Herraa, sinun Jumalaasi, kaikkena elinaikanasi.
24 Mutta jos tie on sinulle liian pitkä, niin ettet voi kantaa kannettavaasi, koska se paikka, jonka Herra, sinun Jumalasi, on valinnut asettaakseen siihen nimensä, on sinulle liian kaukana, - sillä Herra, sinun Jumalasi on sinua siunaava -
25 niin muuta se rahaksi, pane raha kääröön, ota käteesi ja mene siihen paikkaan, jonka Herra, sinun Jumalasi, valitsee,
26 ja osta sillä rahalla kaikkea, mitä haluat, joko raavaita tai lampaita, viiniä tai väkijuomaa, kaikkea, mitä mielesi tekee, ja syö siellä Herran, sinun Jumalasi, edessä ja iloitse, sinä ja perheesi.
27 Äläkä jätä osattomaksi leeviläistä, joka asuu sinun porttiesi sisäpuolella, sillä hänellä ei ole osuutta eikä perintöosaa sinun rinnallasi.
28 Joka kolmas vuosi tuo kaikki kymmenykset sinä vuonna saamastasi sadosta ja pane ne talteen porttiesi sisäpuolelle.
29 Ja sitten tulkoon leeviläinen, jolla ei ole osuutta eikä perintöosaa sinun rinnallasi, niin myös muukalainen, orpo ja leski, jotka asuvat sinun porttiesi sisäpuolella, ja he syökööt ja tulkoot ravituiksi, että Herra, sinun Jumalasi, siunaisi sinua kaikissa kättesi töissä, joita teet."
15 "Joka seitsemäs vuosi pane toimeen vapautus.
2 Ja näin on vapautuksesta määrätty: jokainen saamamies luopukoon siitä, minkä hän on lähimmäiselleen lainannut, älköönkä velkoko lähimmäistänsä ja veljeänsä, sillä silloin on Herran kunniaksi vapautus julistettu.
3 Vierasta saat velkoa, mutta luovu siitä, mitä sinulla on saamista veljeltäsi.
4 Tosin ei köyhää sinun keskuudessasi tulisi ollakaan, sillä Herra on runsaasti siunaava sinua siinä maassa, jonka Herra, sinun Jumalasi, antaa sinulle perintöosaksi ja jonka saat ottaa omaksesi,
5 jos vain kuulet Herran, sinun Jumalasi, ääntä ja tarkoin noudatat kaikkia näitä käskyjä, jotka minä tänä päivänä sinulle annan.
6 Sillä Herra, sinun Jumalasi, on siunaava sinua, niinkuin hän on sinulle puhunut; ja sinä lainaat monelle kansalle, mutta sinun ei tarvitse lainaa ottaa, ja sinä vallitset monia kansoja, mutta he eivät vallitse sinua.
7 Jos sinun keskuudessasi on joku köyhä, joku veljesi jossakin porttiesi sisäpuolella siinä maassa, jonka Herra, sinun Jumalasi, sinulle antaa, niin älä kovenna sydäntäsi äläkä sulje kättäsi köyhältä veljeltäsi,

9 Varo, ettei sydämessäsi synny tämä paha ajatus: 'Seitsemäs vuosi, vapautusvuosi, on lähellä', ja ettet sen tähden katso karsaasti köyhää veljeäsi etkä anna hänelle mitään. Jos hän silloin huutaa sinun tähtesi Herran puoleen, niin sinä joudut syyhyn.
10 Anna mielelläsi hänelle, älköönkä sydämesi olko vastahakoinen antaessasi, sillä lahjasi tähden on Herra, sinun Jumalasi, siunaava sinua kaikissa töissäsi, kaikessa, mihin ryhdyt.
11 Koska köyhiä ei koskaan puutu maasta, sentähden käsken minä sinua näin: Avaa auliisti kätesi veljellesi, kurjalle ja köyhälle, joita sinun maassasi on.
12 Jos joku veljesi, hebrealainen mies tai nainen, on myynyt itsensä sinulle ja palvellut sinua kuusi vuotta, niin päästä hänet seitsemäntenä vuotena luotasi vapaaksi,
13 ja kun päästät hänet luotasi vapaaksi, niin älä lähetä häntä tyhjin käsin.
14 Vaan sälytä hänen selkäänsä runsaasti lahjoja laumastasi, puimatantereeltasi ja kuurnastasi; anna hänellekin siitä, millä Herra, sinun Jumalasi, on sinua siunannut.
15 Muista, että itse olit orjana Egyptin maassa ja että Herra, sinun Jumalasi, vapahti sinut. Sentähden minä tänä päivänä annan sinulle tämän käskyn.
16 Mutta jos hän sanoo sinulle: 'En tahdo lähteä luotasi', koska hän rakastaa sinua ja sinun perhettäsi ja koska hänen on ollut sinun luonasi hyvä olla,
17 niin ota naskali ja pistä se hänen korvansa läpi oveen; olkoon hän sitten sinun orjasi ainiaan. Samoin tee myös orjattarellesi.
18 Älköön sinusta olko vaikeata päästää häntä luotasi vapaaksi: onhan hänestä kuutena vuotena ollut sinulle kahta vertaa suurempi hyöty kuin palkkalaisesta. Ja Herra, sinun Jumalasi, on siunaava sinua kaikessa, mitä teet.
19 Kaikki urospuoliset esikoiset, jotka syntyvät raavaskarjassasi ja pikkukarjassasi, pyhitä Herralle, Jumalallesi; raavaasi esikoisella älä työtä tee, älä myöskään keritse lampaasi esikoista.
20 Herran, sinun Jumalasi, edessä syö perheinesi se joka vuosi siinä paikassa, jonka Herra valitsee.
21 Jos siinä on joku vamma, jos se ontuu tai on sokea tai jos sillä on joku muu paha vamma, mikä tahansa, niin älä uhraa sitä Herralle, sinun Jumalallesi.
22 Syö se porttiesi sisäpuolella; niin hyvin saastainen kuin puhdas saakoon syödä sitä, niinkuin syödään gasellia tai peuraa.
23 Vain verta älä syö; vuodata se maahan niinkuin vesi."
16 "Ota vaari aabib-kuusta ja vietä pääsiäinen Herran, sinun Jumalasi, kunniaksi, sillä aabib-kuussa Herra, sinun Jumalasi, vei sinut pois Egyptistä, yöllä.
2 Ja teurasta Herralle, sinun Jumalallesi, pääsiäisuhri, lampaita ja raavaita, siinä paikassa, jonka Herra valitsee nimensä asuinsijaksi.
3 Älä syö sen ohella hapanta. Syö seitsemänä päivänä sen ohella happamatonta leipää, kurjuuden leipää - sillä kiiruusti sinä lähdit pois Egyptin maasta - että alati muistaisit sitä päivää, jona lähdit Egyptin maasta.

9 Laske seitsemän viikkoa; siitä alkaen, kun sirppi ensi kerran olkeen pannaan, laske seitsemän viikkoa
10 ja vietä viikkojuhla Herran, sinun Jumalasi, kunniaksi kätesi vapaaehtoisin lahjoin, joita sinä annat sen mukaan, kuin Herra, sinun Jumalasi, on sinulle siunausta antanut.

26 See, I am setting before you today a blessing(A) and a curse(B)— 27 the blessing(C) if you obey the commands of the Lord your God that I am giving you today; 28 the curse if you disobey(D) the commands of the Lord your God and turn from the way that I command you today by following other gods,(E) which you have not known. 29 When the Lord your God has brought you into the land you are entering to possess, you are to proclaim on Mount Gerizim(F) the blessings, and on Mount Ebal(G) the curses.(H) 30 As you know, these mountains are across the Jordan, westward, toward the setting sun, near the great trees of Moreh,(I) in the territory of those Canaanites living in the Arabah in the vicinity of Gilgal.(J) 31 You are about to cross the Jordan to enter and take possession(K) of the land the Lord your God is giving(L) you. When you have taken it over and are living there, 32 be sure that you obey all the decrees and laws I am setting before you today.
The One Place of Worship
12 These are the decrees(M) and laws you must be careful to follow in the land that the Lord, the God of your ancestors, has given you to possess—as long as you live in the land.(N) 2 Destroy completely all the places on the high mountains,(O) on the hills and under every spreading tree,(P) where the nations you are dispossessing worship their gods. 3 Break down their altars, smash(Q) their sacred stones and burn(R) their Asherah(S) poles in the fire; cut down the idols of their gods and wipe out their names(T) from those places.
4 You must not worship the Lord your God in their way.(U) 5 But you are to seek the place the Lord your God will choose from among all your tribes to put his Name(V) there for his dwelling.(W) To that place you must go; 6 there bring your burnt offerings and sacrifices, your tithes(X) and special gifts, what you have vowed(Y) to give and your freewill offerings, and the firstborn of your herds and flocks.(Z) 7 There, in the presence(AA) of the Lord your God, you and your families shall eat and shall rejoice(AB) in everything you have put your hand to, because the Lord your God has blessed you.
8 You are not to do as we do here today, everyone doing as they see fit,(AC) 9 since you have not yet reached the resting place(AD) and the inheritance(AE) the Lord your God is giving you. 10 But you will cross the Jordan and settle in the land the Lord your God is giving(AF) you as an inheritance, and he will give you rest(AG) from all your enemies around you so that you will live in safety. 11 Then to the place the Lord your God will choose as a dwelling for his Name(AH)—there you are to bring everything I command you: your burnt offerings and sacrifices, your tithes and special gifts, and all the choice possessions you have vowed to the Lord.(AI) 12 And there rejoice(AJ) before the Lord your God—you, your sons and daughters, your male and female servants, and the Levites(AK) from your towns who have no allotment or inheritance(AL) of their own. 13 Be careful not to sacrifice your burnt offerings anywhere you please.(AM) 14 Offer them only at the place the Lord will choose(AN) in one of your tribes, and there observe everything I command you.
15 Nevertheless, you may slaughter your animals in any of your towns and eat as much of the meat as you want, as if it were gazelle or deer,(AO) according to the blessing the Lord your God gives you. Both the ceremonially unclean and the clean may eat it. 16 But you must not eat the blood;(AP) pour(AQ) it out on the ground like water.(AR) 17 You must not eat in your own towns the tithe(AS) of your grain and new wine and olive oil,(AT) or the firstborn of your herds and flocks, or whatever you have vowed to give,(AU) or your freewill offerings or special gifts.(AV) 18 Instead, you are to eat(AW) them in the presence of the Lord your God at the place the Lord your God will choose(AX)—you, your sons and daughters, your male and female servants, and the Levites from your towns—and you are to rejoice(AY) before the Lord your God in everything you put your hand to. 19 Be careful not to neglect the Levites(AZ) as long as you live in your land.(BA)
20 When the Lord your God has enlarged your territory(BB) as he promised(BC) you, and you crave meat(BD) and say, “I would like some meat,” then you may eat as much of it as you want. 21 If the place where the Lord your God chooses to put his Name(BE) is too far away from you, you may slaughter animals from the herds and flocks the Lord has given you, as I have commanded you, and in your own towns you may eat as much of them as you want.(BF) 22 Eat them as you would gazelle or deer.(BG) Both the ceremonially unclean and the clean may eat. 23 But be sure you do not eat the blood,(BH) because the blood is the life, and you must not eat the life with the meat.(BI) 24 You must not eat the blood; pour it out on the ground like water.(BJ) 25 Do not eat it, so that it may go well(BK) with you and your children after you, because you will be doing what is right(BL) in the eyes of the Lord.
26 But take your consecrated things and whatever you have vowed to give,(BM) and go to the place the Lord will choose. 27 Present your burnt offerings(BN) on the altar of the Lord your God, both the meat and the blood. The blood of your sacrifices must be poured beside the altar of the Lord your God, but you may eat(BO) the meat. 28 Be careful to obey all these regulations I am giving you, so that it may always go well(BP) with you and your children after you, because you will be doing what is good and right in the eyes of the Lord your God.
29 The Lord your God will cut off(BQ) before you the nations you are about to invade and dispossess. But when you have driven them out and settled in their land,(BR) 30 and after they have been destroyed before you, be careful not to be ensnared(BS) by inquiring about their gods, saying, “How do these nations serve their gods? We will do the same.”(BT) 31 You must not worship the Lord your God in their way, because in worshiping their gods, they do all kinds of detestable things the Lord hates.(BU) They even burn their sons(BV) and daughters in the fire as sacrifices to their gods.(BW)
32 See that you do all I command you; do not add(BX) to it or take away from it.[a]
Worshiping Other Gods
13 [b]If a prophet,(BY) or one who foretells by dreams,(BZ) appears among you and announces to you a sign or wonder, 2 and if the sign(CA) or wonder spoken of takes place, and the prophet says, “Let us follow other gods”(CB) (gods you have not known) “and let us worship them,” 3 you must not listen to the words of that prophet(CC) or dreamer.(CD) The Lord your God is testing(CE) you to find out whether you love(CF) him with all your heart and with all your soul. 4 It is the Lord your God you must follow,(CG) and him you must revere.(CH) Keep his commands and obey him; serve him and hold fast(CI) to him. 5 That prophet or dreamer must be put to death(CJ) for inciting rebellion against the Lord your God, who brought you out of Egypt and redeemed you from the land of slavery. That prophet or dreamer tried to turn(CK) you from the way the Lord your God commanded you to follow. You must purge the evil(CL) from among you.
6 If your very own brother, or your son or daughter, or the wife you love, or your closest friend secretly entices(CM) you, saying, “Let us go and worship other gods”(CN) (gods that neither you nor your ancestors have known, 7 gods of the peoples around you, whether near or far, from one end of the land to the other), 8 do not yield(CO) to them or listen to them. Show them no pity.(CP) Do not spare them or shield them. 9 You must certainly put them to death.(CQ) Your hand(CR) must be the first in putting them to death, and then the hands of all the people. 10 Stone them to death, because they tried to turn you away(CS) from the Lord your God, who brought you out of Egypt, out of the land of slavery. 11 Then all Israel will hear and be afraid,(CT) and no one among you will do such an evil thing again.
12 If you hear it said about one of the towns the Lord your God is giving you to live in 13 that troublemakers(CU) have arisen among you and have led the people of their town astray, saying, “Let us go and worship other gods” (gods you have not known), 14 then you must inquire, probe and investigate it thoroughly.(CV) And if it is true and it has been proved that this detestable thing has been done among you,(CW) 15 you must certainly put to the sword all who live in that town. You must destroy it completely,[c](CX) both its people and its livestock.(CY) 16 You are to gather all the plunder of the town into the middle of the public square and completely burn the town(CZ) and all its plunder as a whole burnt offering to the Lord your God.(DA) That town is to remain a ruin(DB) forever, never to be rebuilt, 17 and none of the condemned things[d] are to be found in your hands. Then the Lord will turn from his fierce anger,(DC) will show you mercy,(DD) and will have compassion(DE) on you. He will increase your numbers,(DF) as he promised(DG) on oath to your ancestors— 18 because you obey the Lord your God by keeping all his commands that I am giving you today and doing what is right(DH) in his eyes.
Clean and Unclean Food(DI)
14 You are the children(DJ) of the Lord your God. Do not cut yourselves or shave the front of your heads for the dead, 2 for you are a people holy(DK) to the Lord your God.(DL) Out of all the peoples on the face of the earth, the Lord has chosen you to be his treasured possession.(DM)
3 Do not eat any detestable thing.(DN) 4 These are the animals you may eat:(DO) the ox, the sheep, the goat,(DP) 5 the deer,(DQ) the gazelle, the roe deer, the wild goat,(DR) the ibex, the antelope and the mountain sheep.[e] 6 You may eat any animal that has a divided hoof and that chews the cud. 7 However, of those that chew the cud or that have a divided hoof you may not eat the camel, the rabbit or the hyrax. Although they chew the cud, they do not have a divided hoof; they are ceremonially unclean for you. 8 The pig is also unclean; although it has a divided hoof, it does not chew the cud. You are not to eat their meat or touch their carcasses.(DS)
9 Of all the creatures living in the water, you may eat any that has fins and scales. 10 But anything that does not have fins and scales you may not eat; for you it is unclean.
11 You may eat any clean bird. 12 But these you may not eat: the eagle, the vulture, the black vulture, 13 the red kite, the black kite, any kind(DT) of falcon,(DU) 14 any kind of raven,(DV) 15 the horned owl, the screech owl, the gull, any kind of hawk, 16 the little owl, the great owl, the white owl, 17 the desert owl,(DW) the osprey, the cormorant, 18 the stork, any kind of heron, the hoopoe and the bat.
19 All flying insects are unclean to you; do not eat them. 20 But any winged creature that is clean you may eat.(DX)
21 Do not eat anything you find already dead.(DY) You may give it to the foreigner residing in any of your towns, and they may eat it, or you may sell it to any other foreigner. But you are a people holy to the Lord your God.(DZ)
Do not cook a young goat in its mother’s milk.(EA)
Tithes
22 Be sure to set aside a tenth(EB) of all that your fields produce each year. 23 Eat(EC) the tithe of your grain, new wine(ED) and olive oil, and the firstborn of your herds and flocks in the presence of the Lord your God at the place he will choose as a dwelling for his Name,(EE) so that you may learn(EF) to revere(EG) the Lord your God always. 24 But if that place is too distant and you have been blessed by the Lord your God and cannot carry your tithe (because the place where the Lord will choose to put his Name is so far away), 25 then exchange(EH) your tithe for silver, and take the silver with you and go to the place the Lord your God will choose. 26 Use the silver to buy whatever you like: cattle, sheep, wine or other fermented drink,(EI) or anything you wish. Then you and your household shall eat there in the presence of the Lord your God and rejoice.(EJ) 27 And do not neglect the Levites(EK) living in your towns, for they have no allotment or inheritance of their own.(EL)
28 At the end of every three years, bring all the tithes(EM) of that year’s produce and store it in your towns,(EN) 29 so that the Levites (who have no allotment(EO) or inheritance(EP) of their own) and the foreigners,(EQ) the fatherless and the widows who live in your towns may come and eat and be satisfied,(ER) and so that the Lord your God may bless(ES) you in all the work of your hands.
The Year for Canceling Debts(ET)
15 At the end of every seven years you must cancel debts.(EU) 2 This is how it is to be done: Every creditor shall cancel any loan they have made to a fellow Israelite. They shall not require payment from anyone among their own people, because the Lord’s time for canceling debts has been proclaimed. 3 You may require payment from a foreigner,(EV) but you must cancel any debt your fellow Israelite owes you. 4 However, there need be no poor people among you, for in the land the Lord your God is giving you to possess as your inheritance, he will richly bless(EW) you, 5 if only you fully obey the Lord your God and are careful to follow(EX) all these commands I am giving you today. 6 For the Lord your God will bless you as he has promised, and you will lend to many nations but will borrow from none. You will rule over many nations but none will rule over you.(EY)
7 If anyone is poor(EZ) among your fellow Israelites in any of the towns of the land the Lord your God is giving you, do not be hardhearted or tightfisted(FA) toward them. 8 Rather, be openhanded(FB) and freely lend them whatever they need. 9 Be careful not to harbor this wicked thought: “The seventh year, the year for canceling debts,(FC) is near,” so that you do not show ill will(FD) toward the needy among your fellow Israelites and give them nothing. They may then appeal to the Lord against you, and you will be found guilty of sin.(FE) 10 Give generously to them and do so without a grudging heart;(FF) then because of this the Lord your God will bless(FG) you in all your work and in everything you put your hand to. 11 There will always be poor people(FH) in the land. Therefore I command you to be openhanded toward your fellow Israelites who are poor and needy in your land.(FI)
Freeing Servants(FJ)(FK)
12 If any of your people—Hebrew men or women—sell themselves to you and serve you six years, in the seventh year you must let them go free.(FL) 13 And when you release them, do not send them away empty-handed. 14 Supply them liberally from your flock, your threshing floor(FM) and your winepress. Give to them as the Lord your God has blessed you. 15 Remember that you were slaves(FN) in Egypt and the Lord your God redeemed you.(FO) That is why I give you this command today.
16 But if your servant says to you, “I do not want to leave you,” because he loves you and your family and is well off with you, 17 then take an awl and push it through his earlobe into the door, and he will become your servant for life. Do the same for your female servant.
18 Do not consider it a hardship to set your servant free, because their service to you these six years has been worth twice as much as that of a hired hand. And the Lord your God will bless you in everything you do.
The Firstborn Animals
19 Set apart for the Lord(FP) your God every firstborn male(FQ) of your herds and flocks.(FR) Do not put the firstborn of your cows to work, and do not shear the firstborn of your sheep.(FS) 20 Each year you and your family are to eat them in the presence of the Lord your God at the place he will choose.(FT) 21 If an animal has a defect,(FU) is lame or blind, or has any serious flaw, you must not sacrifice it to the Lord your God.(FV) 22 You are to eat it in your own towns. Both the ceremonially unclean and the clean may eat it, as if it were gazelle or deer.(FW) 23 But you must not eat the blood; pour it out on the ground like water.(FX)
The Passover(FY)
16 Observe the month of Aviv(FZ) and celebrate the Passover(GA) of the Lord your God, because in the month of Aviv he brought you out of Egypt by night. 2 Sacrifice as the Passover to the Lord your God an animal from your flock or herd at the place the Lord will choose as a dwelling for his Name.(GB) 3 Do not eat it with bread made with yeast, but for seven days eat unleavened bread, the bread of affliction,(GC) because you left Egypt in haste(GD)—so that all the days of your life you may remember the time of your departure from Egypt.(GE) 4 Let no yeast be found in your possession in all your land for seven days. Do not let any of the meat you sacrifice on the evening(GF) of the first day remain until morning.(GG)
5 You must not sacrifice the Passover in any town the Lord your God gives you 6 except in the place he will choose as a dwelling for his Name. There you must sacrifice the Passover in the evening, when the sun goes down, on the anniversary[f](GH) of your departure from Egypt. 7 Roast(GI) it and eat it at the place the Lord your God will choose. Then in the morning return to your tents. 8 For six days eat unleavened bread and on the seventh day hold an assembly(GJ) to the Lord your God and do no work.(GK)
The Festival of Weeks(GL)
9 Count off seven weeks(GM) from the time you begin to put the sickle to the standing grain.(GN) 10 Then celebrate the Festival of Weeks to the Lord your God by giving a freewill offering in proportion to the blessings the Lord your God has given you. 11 And rejoice(GO) before the Lord your God at the place he will choose as a dwelling for his Name(GP)—you, your sons and daughters, your male and female servants, the Levites(GQ) in your towns, and the foreigners,(GR) the fatherless and the widows living among you.(GS) 12 Remember that you were slaves in Egypt,(GT) and follow carefully these decrees.
The Festival of Tabernacles(GU)
13 Celebrate the Festival of Tabernacles for seven days after you have gathered the produce of your threshing floor(GV) and your winepress.(GW) 14 Be joyful(GX) at your festival—you, your sons and daughters, your male and female servants, and the Levites, the foreigners, the fatherless and the widows who live in your towns. 15 For seven days celebrate the festival to the Lord your God at the place the Lord will choose. For the Lord your God will bless you in all your harvest and in all the work of your hands, and your joy(GY) will be complete.
16 Three times a year all your men must appear(GZ) before the Lord your God at the place he will choose: at the Festival of Unleavened Bread,(HA) the Festival of Weeks and the Festival of Tabernacles.(HB) No one should appear before the Lord empty-handed:(HC) 17 Each of you must bring a gift in proportion to the way the Lord your God has blessed you.

10 And thou shalt stone him with stones, that he die; because he hath sought to thrust thee away from the Lord thy God, which brought thee out of the land of Egypt, from the house of bondage.
11 And all Israel shall hear, and fear, and shall do no more any such wickedness as this is among you.
12 If thou shalt hear say in one of thy cities, which the Lord thy God hath given thee to dwell there, saying,
13 Certain men, the children of Belial, are gone out from among you, and have withdrawn the inhabitants of their city, saying, Let us go and serve other gods, which ye have not known;
14 Then shalt thou enquire, and make search, and ask diligently; and, behold, if it be truth, and the thing certain, that such abomination is wrought among you;
15 Thou shalt surely smite the inhabitants of that city with the edge of the sword, destroying it utterly, and all that is therein, and the cattle thereof, with the edge of the sword.
16 And thou shalt gather all the spoil of it into the midst of the street thereof, and shalt burn with fire the city, and all the spoil thereof every whit, for the Lord thy God: and it shall be an heap for ever; it shall not be built again.
17 And there shall cleave nought of the cursed thing to thine hand: that the Lord may turn from the fierceness of his anger, and shew thee mercy, and have compassion upon thee, and multiply thee, as he hath sworn unto thy fathers;
18 When thou shalt hearken to the voice of the Lord thy God, to keep all his commandments which I command thee this day, to do that which is right in the eyes of the Lord thy God.
14 Ye are the children of the Lord your God: ye shall not cut yourselves, nor make any baldness between your eyes for the dead.
2 For thou art an holy people unto the Lord thy God, and the Lord hath chosen thee to be a peculiar people unto himself, above all the nations that are upon the earth.
3 Thou shalt not eat any abominable thing.
4 These are the beasts which ye shall eat: the ox, the sheep, and the goat,
5 The hart, and the roebuck, and the fallow deer, and the wild goat, and the pygarg, and the wild ox, and the chamois.
6 And every beast that parteth the hoof, and cleaveth the cleft into two claws, and cheweth the cud among the beasts, that ye shall eat.
7 Nevertheless these ye shall not eat of them that chew the cud, or of them that divide the cloven hoof; as the camel, and the hare, and the coney: for they chew the cud, but divide not the hoof; therefore they are unclean unto you.
8 And the swine, because it divideth the hoof, yet cheweth not the cud, it is unclean unto you: ye shall not eat of their flesh, nor touch their dead carcase.
9 These ye shall eat of all that are in the waters: all that have fins and scales shall ye eat:
10 And whatsoever hath not fins and scales ye may not eat; it is unclean unto you.
11 Of all clean birds ye shall eat.
12 But these are they of which ye shall not eat: the eagle, and the ossifrage, and the ospray,
13 And the glede, and the kite, and the vulture after his kind,
14 And every raven after his kind,
15 And the owl, and the night hawk, and the cuckow, and the hawk after his kind,
16 The little owl, and the great owl, and the swan,
17 And the pelican, and the gier eagle, and the cormorant,
18 And the stork, and the heron after her kind, and the lapwing, and the bat.
19 And every creeping thing that flieth is unclean unto you: they shall not be eaten.
20 But of all clean fowls ye may eat.
21 Ye shall not eat of anything that dieth of itself: thou shalt give it unto the stranger that is in thy gates, that he may eat it; or thou mayest sell it unto an alien: for thou art an holy people unto the Lord thy God. Thou shalt not seethe a kid in his mother's milk.
22 Thou shalt truly tithe all the increase of thy seed, that the field bringeth forth year by year.
23 And thou shalt eat before the Lord thy God, in the place which he shall choose to place his name there, the tithe of thy corn, of thy wine, and of thine oil, and the firstlings of thy herds and of thy flocks; that thou mayest learn to fear the Lord thy God always.
24 And if the way be too long for thee, so that thou art not able to carry it; or if the place be too far from thee, which the Lord thy God shall choose to set his name there, when the Lord thy God hath blessed thee:
25 Then shalt thou turn it into money, and bind up the money in thine hand, and shalt go unto the place which the Lord thy God shall choose:
26 And thou shalt bestow that money for whatsoever thy soul lusteth after, for oxen, or for sheep, or for wine, or for strong drink, or for whatsoever thy soul desireth: and thou shalt eat there before the Lord thy God, and thou shalt rejoice, thou, and thine household,
27 And the Levite that is within thy gates; thou shalt not forsake him; for he hath no part nor inheritance with thee.
28 At the end of three years thou shalt bring forth all the tithe of thine increase the same year, and shalt lay it up within thy gates:
29 And the Levite, (because he hath no part nor inheritance with thee,) and the stranger, and the fatherless, and the widow, which are within thy gates, shall come, and shall eat and be satisfied; that the Lord thy God may bless thee in all the work of thine hand which thou doest.
15 At the end of every seven years thou shalt make a release.
2 And this is the manner of the release: Every creditor that lendeth ought unto his neighbour shall release it; he shall not exact it of his neighbour, or of his brother; because it is called the Lord's release.
3 Of a foreigner thou mayest exact it again: but that which is thine with thy brother thine hand shall release;
4 Save when there shall be no poor among you; for the Lord shall greatly bless thee in the land which the Lord thy God giveth thee for an inheritance to possess it:
5 Only if thou carefully hearken unto the voice of the Lord thy God, to observe to do all these commandments which I command thee this day.
6 For the Lord thy God blesseth thee, as he promised thee: and thou shalt lend unto many nations, but thou shalt not borrow; and thou shalt reign over many nations, but they shall not reign over thee.
7 If there be among you a poor man of one of thy brethren within any of thy gates in thy land which the Lord thy God giveth thee, thou shalt not harden thine heart, nor shut thine hand from thy poor brother:
8 But thou shalt open thine hand wide unto him, and shalt surely lend him sufficient for his need, in that which he wanteth.
9 Beware that there be not a thought in thy wicked heart, saying, The seventh year, the year of release, is at hand; and thine eye be evil against thy poor brother, and thou givest him nought; and he cry unto the Lord against thee, and it be sin unto thee.
10 Thou shalt surely give him, and thine heart shall not be grieved when thou givest unto him: because that for this thing the Lord thy God shall bless thee in all thy works, and in all that thou puttest thine hand unto.
11 For the poor shall never cease out of the land: therefore I command thee, saying, Thou shalt open thine hand wide unto thy brother, to thy poor, and to thy needy, in thy land.
12 And if thy brother, an Hebrew man, or an Hebrew woman, be sold unto thee, and serve thee six years; then in the seventh year thou shalt let him go free from thee.
13 And when thou sendest him out free from thee, thou shalt not let him go away empty:
14 Thou shalt furnish him liberally out of thy flock, and out of thy floor, and out of thy winepress: of that wherewith the Lord thy God hath blessed thee thou shalt give unto him.
15 And thou shalt remember that thou wast a bondman in the land of Egypt, and the Lord thy God redeemed thee: therefore I command thee this thing to day.
16 And it shall be, if he say unto thee, I will not go away from thee; because he loveth thee and thine house, because he is well with thee;
17 Then thou shalt take an aul, and thrust it through his ear unto the door, and he shall be thy servant for ever. And also unto thy maidservant thou shalt do likewise.
18 It shall not seem hard unto thee, when thou sendest him away free from thee; for he hath been worth a double hired servant to thee, in serving thee six years: and the Lord thy God shall bless thee in all that thou doest.
19 All the firstling males that come of thy herd and of thy flock thou shalt sanctify unto the Lord thy God: thou shalt do no work with the firstling of thy bullock, nor shear the firstling of thy sheep.
20 Thou shalt eat it before the Lord thy God year by year in the place which the Lord shall choose, thou and thy household.
21 And if there be any blemish therein, as if it be lame, or blind, or have any ill blemish, thou shalt not sacrifice it unto the Lord thy God.
22 Thou shalt eat it within thy gates: the unclean and the clean person shall eat it alike, as the roebuck, and as the hart.
23 Only thou shalt not eat the blood thereof; thou shalt pour it upon the ground as water.
16 Observe the month of Abib, and keep the passover unto the Lord thy God: for in the month of Abib the Lord thy God brought thee forth out of Egypt by night.
2 Thou shalt therefore sacrifice the passover unto the Lord thy God, of the flock and the herd, in the place which the Lord shall choose to place his name there.
3 Thou shalt eat no leavened bread with it; seven days shalt thou eat unleavened bread therewith, even the bread of affliction; for thou camest forth out of the land of Egypt in haste: that thou mayest remember the day when thou camest forth out of the land of Egypt all the days of thy life.
4 And there shall be no leavened bread seen with thee in all thy coast seven days; neither shall there any thing of the flesh, which thou sacrificedst the first day at even, remain all night until the morning.
5 Thou mayest not sacrifice the passover within any of thy gates, which the Lord thy God giveth thee:
6 But at the place which the Lord thy God shall choose to place his name in, there thou shalt sacrifice the passover at even, at the going down of the sun, at the season that thou camest forth out of Egypt.
7 And thou shalt roast and eat it in the place which the Lord thy God shall choose: and thou shalt turn in the morning, and go unto thy tents.
8 Six days thou shalt eat unleavened bread: and on the seventh day shall be a solemn assembly to the Lord thy God: thou shalt do no work therein.
9 Seven weeks shalt thou number unto thee: begin to number the seven weeks from such time as thou beginnest to put the sickle to the corn.
10 And thou shalt keep the feast of weeks unto the Lord thy God with a tribute of a freewill offering of thine hand, which thou shalt give unto the Lord thy God, according as the Lord thy God hath blessed thee:
11 And thou shalt rejoice before the Lord thy God, thou, and thy son, and thy daughter, and thy manservant, and thy maidservant, and the Levite that is within thy gates, and the stranger, and the fatherless, and the widow, that are among you, in the place which the Lord thy God hath chosen to place his name there.
12 And thou shalt remember that thou wast a bondman in Egypt: and thou shalt observe and do these statutes.
13 Thou shalt observe the feast of tabernacles seven days, after that thou hast gathered in thy corn and thy wine:
14 And thou shalt rejoice in thy feast, thou, and thy son, and thy daughter, and thy manservant, and thy maidservant, and the Levite, the stranger, and the fatherless, and the widow, that are within thy gates.
15 Seven days shalt thou keep a solemn feast unto the Lord thy God in the place which the Lord shall choose: because the Lord thy God shall bless thee in all thine increase, and in all the works of thine hands, therefore thou shalt surely rejoice.
16 Three times in a year shall all thy males appear before the Lord thy God in the place which he shall choose; in the feast of unleavened bread, and in the feast of weeks, and in the feast of tabernacles: and they shall not appear before the Lord empty:
17 Every man shall give as he is able, according to the blessing of the Lord thy God which he hath given thee.
