Deuteronomy 8:2-5
New International Version
2 Remember how the Lord your God led(A) you all the way in the wilderness these forty years, to humble and test(B) you in order to know what was in your heart, whether or not you would keep his commands. 3 He humbled(C) you, causing you to hunger and then feeding you with manna,(D) which neither you nor your ancestors had known, to teach(E) you that man does not live on bread(F) alone but on every word that comes from the mouth(G) of the Lord.(H) 4 Your clothes did not wear out and your feet did not swell during these forty years.(I) 5 Know then in your heart that as a man disciplines his son, so the Lord your God disciplines you.(J)
Deuteronomy 8:2-5
King James Version
2 And thou shalt remember all the way which the Lord thy God led thee these forty years in the wilderness, to humble thee, and to prove thee, to know what was in thine heart, whether thou wouldest keep his commandments, or no.
3 And he humbled thee, and suffered thee to hunger, and fed thee with manna, which thou knewest not, neither did thy fathers know; that he might make thee know that man doth not live by bread only, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of the Lord doth man live.
4 Thy raiment waxed not old upon thee, neither did thy foot swell, these forty years.
5 Thou shalt also consider in thine heart, that, as a man chasteneth his son, so the Lord thy God chasteneth thee.

2 And thou shalt remember all the way which the Lord thy God led thee this forty years in the wilderness, for to humble thee, and to [a]prove thee, to know what was in thine heart, whether thou wouldest keep his commandments or no.
3 Therefore he humbled thee, and made thee hungry, and fed thee with Manna, which thou knewest not, neither did thy fathers know it, that he might teach thee that man lived not by [b]bread only, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of the Lord, doth a man live.
4 Thy raiment waxed not old upon thee, neither did thy foot [c]swell those forty years.
5 Know therefore in thine heart, that as a man nurtureth his son, so the Lord thy God [d]nurtureth thee.
