¹¹ At the end of the forty days and forty nights,^(A) the Lord gave me the two stone tablets,^(B) the tablets of the covenant.

⁹ When I went up on the mountain to receive the tablets of stone, the tablets of the covenant^(A) that the Lord had made with you, I stayed on the mountain forty days^(B) and forty nights; I ate no bread and drank no water.^(C)

⁴ which had the golden altar of incense^(A) and the gold-covered ark of the covenant.^(B) This ark contained the gold jar of manna,^(C) Aaron’s staff that had budded,^(D) and the stone tablets of the covenant.^(E)

⁶ But in fact the ministry Jesus has received is as superior to theirs as the covenant^(A) of which he is mediator^(B) is superior to the old one, since the new covenant is established on better promises.

⁷ For if there had been nothing wrong with that first covenant, no place would have been sought for another.^{(C) 8} But God found fault with the people and said^[a]:

³³ So they set out^(A) from the mountain of the Lord and traveled for three days. The ark of the covenant of the Lord^(B) went before them during those three days to find them a place to rest.^(C)
