⁵ But thus shall you deal with them: ^(A)you shall break down their altars and dash in pieces their ^(B)pillars and chop down their ^(C)Asherim and ^(D)burn their carved images with fire.

²⁴ you shall ^(A)not bow down to their gods nor serve them, ^(B)nor do as they do, but ^(C)you shall utterly overthrow them and break their ^(D)pillars in pieces.

^2 (A)You shall surely destroy all the places where the nations whom you shall dispossess served their gods, ^(B)on the high mountains and on the hills and under every green tree. ³ You shall tear down their altars and dash in pieces ^(C)their pillars and burn their ^(D)Asherim with fire. You shall chop down the carved images of their gods and ^(E)destroy their name out of that place.

¹³ You shall ^(A)tear down their altars and ^(B)break their pillars and cut down their ^(C)Asherim

²⁵ That night the Lord said to him, “Take your father's bull, and the second bull seven years old, and pull down the altar of Baal that your father has, and cut down ^(A)the Asherah that is beside it ²⁶ and build an altar to the Lord your God on the top of the ^(B)stronghold here, with stones laid in due order. Then take the second bull and offer it as a burnt offering with the wood of the Asherah that you shall cut down.”

²² And you shall not set up a pillar, which the Lord your God hates.

²¹ Then ^(A)I took the sinful thing, the calf that you had made, and burned it with fire and crushed it, grinding it very small, until it was as fine as dust. And I threw the dust of it into the brook that ran down from the mountain.

²⁵ The carved images of their gods ^(A)you shall burn with fire. You ^(B)shall not covet the silver or the gold that is on them or take it for yourselves, lest you be ^(C)ensnared by it, for it is an abomination to the Lord your God.

Blessings for Obedience

26 “You shall not make ^(A)idols for yourselves or erect an ^(B)image or ^(C)pillar, and you shall not set up a ^(D)figured stone in your land to bow down to it, for I am the Lord your God.
