^7 (A)You shall teach them diligently to your children, and shall talk of them when you sit in your house, and when you walk by the way, and when you lie down, and when you rise.

⁴ Fathers, do not provoke your children to anger, ^(A)but bring them up in the discipline and instruction of the Lord.

¹⁵ but ^(A)in your hearts honor Christ the Lord as holy, ^(B)always being prepared to make a defense to anyone who asks you for a reason for the hope that is in you; yet do it with gentleness and ^(C)respect,

² that ^(A)you may fear the Lord your God, you and your son and your son's son, by keeping all his statutes and his commandments, which I command you, all the days of your life, and ^(B)that your days may be long.

^9 (A)“Only take care, and ^(B)keep your soul diligently, lest you forget the things that your eyes have seen, and lest they depart from your heart all the days of your life. ^(C)Make them known to your children and your children's children— ¹⁰ how on ^(D)the day that you stood before the Lord your God at Horeb, the Lord said to me, ^(E)‘Gather the people to me, that I may let them hear my words, ^(F)so that they may learn to fear ^(G)me all the days that they live on the earth, and that they may teach their children so.’

^29 (A)Let no corrupting talk come out of your mouths, but only such as is good for building up, as fits the occasion, that it may give ^(B)grace to those who hear.
