⁵ Then Moses, the servant of the Lord, died there in the land of Moab, at the Lord’s command.^(A)

⁵⁰ you shall die there on the mountain that you ascend and shall be gathered to your kin, as your brother Aaron died on Mount Hor and was gathered to his kin,

God’s Commission to Joshua

1 After the death of Moses the servant of the Lord, the Lord spoke to Joshua son of Nun, Moses’s assistant, saying, ² “My servant Moses is dead. Now proceed to cross the Jordan, you and all this people, into the land that I am giving to them, to the Israelites.^(A)

³ Yet Jesus^[a] is worthy of more glory than Moses, just as the builder of a house has more honor than the house itself.^{(A) 4} (For every house is built by someone, but the builder of all things is God.)^{(B) 5} Now Moses was faithful in all God’s^[b] house as a servant, to testify to the things that would be spoken later.^{(C) 6} Christ, however, was faithful over God’s^[c] house as a son, and we are his house if we hold firm^[d] the boldness and the pride inspired by hope.^(D)

³ And they sing the song of Moses, the servant of God, and the song of the Lamb:

Salutation

1 Simeon^[a] Peter, a servant and apostle of Jesus Christ,

To those who have received a faith as equally honorable as ours through the righteousness of our God and Savior Jesus Christ:

²⁵ correcting opponents with gentleness. God may perhaps grant that they will repent and come to know the truth^(A)

³⁵ The slave does not have a permanent place in the household; the son has a place there forever.^{(A) 36} So if the Son makes you free, you will be free indeed.

⁴ Remember the teaching of my servant Moses, the statutes and ordinances that I commanded him at Horeb for all Israel.^(A)

Moses and Joshua Receive God’s Charge

¹⁴ The Lord said to Moses, “Your time to die is near; call Joshua and present yourselves in the tent of meeting, so that I may commission him.” So Moses and Joshua went and presented themselves in the tent of meeting,^(A)
