²⁸ But ^(A)charge Joshua, and encourage and strengthen him, for he shall go over at the head of this people, and he shall put them in possession of the land that you shall see.’

³ The Lord your God ^(A)himself will go over before you. He will destroy these nations before you, so that you shall dispossess them, and Joshua will go over at your head, ^(B)as the Lord has spoken.

^23 (A)And the Lord^[a] commissioned Joshua the son of Nun and said, ^(B)“Be strong and courageous, for you shall bring the people of Israel into the land that I swore to give them. ^(C)I will be with you.”

⁷ Then ^(A)Moses summoned Joshua and said to him in the sight of all Israel, ^(B)“Be strong and courageous, for you shall go with this people into the land that the Lord has sworn to their fathers to give them, and you shall put them in possession of it.

^38 (A)Joshua the son of Nun, ^(B)who stands before you, he shall enter. ^(C)Encourage him, for he shall cause Israel to inherit it.

¹⁸ So the Lord said to Moses, “Take ^(A)Joshua the son of Nun, a man ^(B)in whom is the Spirit, and ^(C)lay your hand on him. ¹⁹ Make him stand before Eleazar the priest and all the congregation, and you shall ^(D)commission him in their sight. ²⁰ You shall invest him with some of your authority, ^(E)that all the congregation of the people of Israel may obey. ²¹ And he shall stand before Eleazar the priest, who shall inquire for him ^(F)by the judgment of the Urim before the Lord. At his word they shall go out, and at his word they shall come in, both he and all the people of Israel with him, the whole congregation.” ²² And Moses did as the Lord commanded him. He took Joshua and made him stand before Eleazar the priest and the whole congregation, ²³ and he laid his hands on him and ^(G)commissioned him as the Lord directed through Moses.

⁸ For if Joshua had given them rest, God^[a] would not have spoken of another day later on.

Preach the Word

4 ^(A)I charge you in the presence of God and of Christ Jesus, ^(B)who is to judge the living and the dead, and by ^(C)his appearing and his kingdom: ² preach the word; be ready in season and out of season; ^(D)reprove, rebuke, and ^(E)exhort, with complete patience and teaching. ^3 (F)For the time is coming when people will not endure ^(G)sound^[a] teaching, but having itching ears they will accumulate for themselves teachers to suit their own passions, ⁴ and ^(H)will turn away from listening to the truth and ^(I)wander off into myths. ⁵ As for you, ^(J)always be sober-minded, ^(K)endure suffering, do the work of ^(L)an evangelist, ^(M)fulfill your ministry.

⁶ For ^(N)I am already being poured out as a drink offering, and the time of my ^(O)departure has come.

A Good Soldier of Christ Jesus

2 You then, ^(A)my child, ^(B)be strengthened by the grace that is in Christ Jesus, ² and ^(C)what you have heard from me in the presence of many witnesses ^(D)entrust to faithful men,^{[a] (E)}who will be able to teach others also. ^3 (F)Share in suffering as ^(G)a good soldier of Christ Jesus.
