⁶² Whereas ^(A)you were as numerous ^(B)as the stars of heaven, you shall be left few in number, because you did not obey the voice of the Lord your God.

²³ You multiplied their children ^(A)as the stars of heaven, and you brought them into the land that you had told their fathers to enter and possess.

²² Your fathers went down to Egypt ^(A)seventy persons, and now the Lord your God has made you ^(B)as numerous as the stars of heaven.

²⁷ And the Lord ^(A)will scatter you among the peoples, ^(B)and you will be left few in number among the nations where the Lord will drive you.

²⁷ And Isaiah cries out concerning Israel: ^(A)“Though the number of the sons of Israel^[a] be as the sand of the sea, ^(B)only a remnant of them will be saved, ²⁸ for the Lord will carry out his sentence upon the earth fully and without delay.” ²⁹ And as Isaiah predicted,

²⁰ And if the Lord had not cut short the days, no human being would be saved. But for ^(A)the sake of the elect, whom ^(B)he chose, he shortened the days.

² and said to Jeremiah the prophet, “Let ^(A)our plea for mercy come before you, and ^(B)pray to the Lord your God for us, for all ^(C)this remnant—^(D)because we are left with but a few, as your eyes see us—

⁴ The city was wide and large, but the people within it were few, and no houses had been rebuilt.
