^12 (A)How can I bear by myself the weight and burden of you and your strife?

^5 (A)Not that we are sufficient in ourselves to claim anything as coming from us, but ^(B)our sufficiency is from God,

^16 (A)to one a fragrance from death to death, ^(B)to the other a fragrance from life to life. ^(C)Who is sufficient for these things?

⁷ And now, O Lord my God, ^(A)you have made your servant king in place of David my father, ^(B)although I am but a little child. I do not know ^(C)how to go out or come in. ^8 (D)And your servant is in the midst of your people whom you have chosen, a great people, ^(E)too many to be numbered or counted for multitude. ^9 (F)Give your servant therefore an understanding mind ^(G)to govern your people, that I may ^(H)discern between good and evil, for who is able to govern this your great people?”

Leaders Appointed

⁹ “At that time ^(A)I said to you, ‘I am not able to bear you by myself.

^11 (A)Moses said to the Lord, “Why have you dealt ill with your servant? And why have I not found favor in your sight, that you lay the burden of all this people on me? ¹² Did I conceive all this people? Did I give them birth, that you should say to me, ^(B)‘Carry them in your bosom, as a ^(C)nurse carries a nursing child,’ to the land ^(D)that you swore to give their fathers? ^13 (E)Where am I to get meat to give to all this people? For they weep before me and say, ‘Give us meat, that we may eat.’ ^14 (F)I am not able to carry all this people alone; the burden is too heavy for me. ¹⁵ If you will treat me like this, kill me at once, if I find favor in your sight, that I may not see my wretchedness.”

¹³ The next day Moses sat to judge the people, and the people stood around Moses from morning till evening. ¹⁴ When Moses' father-in-law saw all that he was doing for the people, he said, “What is this that you are doing for the people? Why do you sit alone, and all the people stand around you from morning till evening?” ¹⁵ And Moses said to his father-in-law, “Because ^(A)the people come to me to inquire of God; ^16 (B)when they have a dispute, they come to me and I decide between one person and another, and I ^(C)make them know the statutes of God and his laws.”
