¹⁵ So I took^(A) the leading men of your tribes,^(B) wise and respected men,^(C) and appointed them to have authority over you—as commanders^(D) of thousands, of hundreds, of fifties and of tens and as tribal officials.^(E)

²⁵ He chose capable men from all Israel and made them leaders^(A) of the people, officials over thousands, hundreds, fifties and tens.^{(B) 26} They served as judges^(C) for the people at all times. The difficult cases^(D) they brought to Moses, but the simple ones they decided themselves.^(E)

¹¹ So Christ himself gave^(A) the apostles,^(B) the prophets,^(C) the evangelists,^(D) the pastors and teachers,^(E)

⁷ He said to them, “Listen, men of Benjamin! Will the son of Jesse give all of you fields and vineyards? Will he make all of you commanders^(A) of thousands and commanders of hundreds?

¹⁸ Take along these ten cheeses to the commander of their unit. See how your brothers^(A) are and bring back some assurance^[a] from them.

¹² Some he will assign to be commanders^(A) of thousands and commanders of fifties, and others to plow his ground and reap his harvest, and still others to make weapons of war and equipment for his chariots.

Judges

¹⁸ Appoint judges^(A) and officials for each of your tribes in every town the Lord your God is giving you, and they shall judge the people fairly.^(B)
