Oración de Daniel por su pueblo

En el año primero de Darío(A), hijo de Asuero, descendiente[a] de los medos, que fue constituido rey sobre el reino de los caldeos, en el año primero de su reinado, yo, Daniel, pude entender en los libros el número de los años en que, por palabra del Señor que fue revelada al profeta Jeremías, debían cumplirse las desolaciones de Jerusalén: setenta años(B).

Volví[b] mi rostro a Dios el Señor para buscarlo en oración y súplicas, en ayuno, cilicio y ceniza. Oré al Señor mi Dios e hice confesión y dije: «Ay, Señor, el Dios grande y temible, que guarda el pacto y la misericordia(C) para los que lo aman y guardan Sus mandamientos(D), hemos pecado, hemos cometido iniquidad, hemos hecho lo malo(E), nos hemos rebelado(F) y nos hemos apartado de Tus mandamientos(G) y de Tus ordenanzas. No hemos escuchado a Tus siervos los profetas(H) que hablaron en Tu nombre a nuestros reyes, a nuestros príncipes, a nuestros padres y a todo el pueblo de la tierra.

Tuya es la justicia, oh Señor, y nuestra la vergüenza en el rostro, como sucede hoy a los hombres de Judá, a los habitantes de Jerusalén y a todo Israel(I), a los que están cerca y a los que están lejos en todos los países adonde los has echado(J), a causa de las infidelidades que cometieron contra Ti(K).

»Oh Señor, nuestra es la vergüenza del rostro, y de nuestros reyes, de nuestros príncipes y de nuestros padres, porque hemos pecado contra Ti. Al Señor nuestro Dios pertenece la compasión y el perdón(L), porque[c] nos hemos rebelado contra Él(M), 10 y no hemos obedecido la voz del Señor nuestro Dios para andar en Sus enseñanzas[d], que Él puso delante de nosotros por medio[e] de Sus siervos los profetas(N). 11 Ciertamente todo Israel ha transgredido Tu ley y se ha apartado, sin querer obedecer Tu voz(O). Por eso ha sido derramada sobre nosotros la maldición y el juramento que está escrito en la ley(P) de Moisés, siervo de Dios, porque hemos pecado contra Él.

12 »Y Él ha confirmado las palabras que habló contra nosotros y contra nuestros jefes que nos gobernaron[f], trayendo sobre nosotros gran calamidad(Q), pues nunca se ha hecho debajo del[g] cielo nada como lo que se ha hecho contra Jerusalén(R). 13 Como está escrito en la ley de Moisés, toda esta calamidad ha venido sobre nosotros(S), pero no hemos buscado el favor[h] del Señor nuestro Dios, apartándonos de nuestra iniquidad y prestando atención a[i] Tu verdad(T).

14 »Por tanto, el Señor ha estado guardando esta[j] calamidad(U) y la ha traído sobre nosotros. Porque el Señor nuestro Dios es justo en todas las obras que ha hecho, pero nosotros no hemos obedecido Su voz(V). 15 Y ahora, Señor Dios nuestro, que sacaste a Tu pueblo de la tierra de Egipto con mano poderosa(W), y te has hecho un nombre, como hoy se ve(X), hemos pecado, hemos sido malos. 16 Oh Señor, conforme a todos Tus actos de justicia[k], apártese ahora Tu ira y Tu furor de Tu ciudad, Jerusalén(Y), Tu santo monte(Z). Porque a causa de nuestros pecados y de las iniquidades de nuestros padres, Jerusalén y Tu pueblo son el oprobio de todos los que nos rodean(AA).

17 »Y ahora, Dios nuestro, escucha la oración de Tu siervo y sus súplicas, y haz resplandecer Tu rostro(AB) sobre Tu santuario desolado(AC), por amor de Ti mismo, oh Señor[l]. 18 Inclina Tu oído, Dios mío, y escucha. Abre Tus ojos y mira(AD) nuestras desolaciones y la ciudad sobre la cual se invoca Tu nombre(AE). Pues no es por nuestros propios méritos[m] que presentamos[n] nuestras súplicas(AF) delante de Ti, sino por Tu gran compasión. 19 ¡Oh Señor, escucha! ¡Señor, perdona! ¡Señor, atiende y actúa! ¡No tardes, por amor de Ti mismo, Dios mío(AG)! Porque Tu nombre se invoca sobre Tu ciudad y sobre Tu pueblo».

La profecía de las setenta semanas

20 Aún estaba yo hablando, orando y confesando mi pecado y el pecado de mi pueblo Israel(AH), y presentando[o] mi súplica delante del Señor(AI) mi Dios por el santo monte de mi Dios, 21 todavía estaba yo hablando en oración, cuando Gabriel, el hombre a quien había visto en la visión(AJ) al principio, se me acercó, estando yo muy cansado[p], como a la hora de la ofrenda de la tarde(AK).

22 Me instruyó y me dijo(AL): «Daniel, he salido ahora para darte sabiduría y entendimiento. 23 Al principio de tus súplicas se dio la orden[q], y he venido para explicártela(AM), porque eres muy estimado[r]. Pon atención a la orden y entiende la visión(AN).

24 Setenta semanas[s] han sido decretadas sobre tu pueblo y sobre tu santa ciudad, para poner fin a[t] la transgresión, para terminar con el pecado[u], para expiar la iniquidad(AO), para traer justicia eterna(AP), para sellar la visión y la profecía[v], y para ungir el lugar santísimo[w].

25 »Has de saber y entender que desde la salida de la orden para restaurar y reconstruir a Jerusalén(AQ) hasta el Mesías(AR) Príncipe[x](AS), habrá siete semanas y sesenta y dos semanas. Volverá a ser edificada, con plaza[y] y foso, pero en tiempos de angustia. 26 Después de las sesenta y dos semanas el Mesías[z] será muerto[aa] y no tendrá nada[ab](AT), y el pueblo del príncipe que ha de venir destruirá la ciudad(AU) y el santuario. Su fin vendrá con inundación(AV). Aun hasta el fin habrá guerra; las desolaciones están determinadas[ac]. 27 Y él hará un pacto firme con muchos por una semana, pero a la mitad de la semana pondrá fin al sacrificio y a la ofrenda de cereal. Daniel’s Prayer

In the first year of Darius(A) son of Xerxes[a](B) (a Mede by descent), who was made ruler over the Babylonian[b] kingdom— in the first year of his reign, I, Daniel, understood from the Scriptures, according to the word of the Lord given to Jeremiah the prophet, that the desolation of Jerusalem would last seventy(C) years. So I turned to the Lord God and pleaded with him in prayer and petition, in fasting,(D) and in sackcloth and ashes.(E)

I prayed to the Lord my God and confessed:(F)

“Lord, the great and awesome God,(G) who keeps his covenant of love(H) with those who love him and keep his commandments, we have sinned(I) and done wrong.(J) We have been wicked and have rebelled; we have turned away(K) from your commands and laws.(L) We have not listened(M) to your servants the prophets,(N) who spoke in your name to our kings, our princes and our ancestors,(O) and to all the people of the land.

“Lord, you are righteous,(P) but this day we are covered with shame(Q)—the people of Judah and the inhabitants of Jerusalem and all Israel, both near and far, in all the countries where you have scattered(R) us because of our unfaithfulness(S) to you.(T) We and our kings, our princes and our ancestors are covered with shame, Lord, because we have sinned against you.(U) The Lord our God is merciful and forgiving,(V) even though we have rebelled against him;(W) 10 we have not obeyed the Lord our God or kept the laws he gave us through his servants the prophets.(X) 11 All Israel has transgressed(Y) your law(Z) and turned away, refusing to obey you.

“Therefore the curses(AA) and sworn judgments(AB) written in the Law of Moses, the servant of God, have been poured out on us, because we have sinned(AC) against you. 12 You have fulfilled(AD) the words spoken against us and against our rulers by bringing on us great disaster.(AE) Under the whole heaven nothing has ever been done like(AF) what has been done to Jerusalem.(AG) 13 Just as it is written in the Law of Moses, all this disaster has come on us, yet we have not sought the favor of the Lord(AH) our God by turning from our sins and giving attention to your truth.(AI) 14 The Lord did not hesitate to bring the disaster(AJ) on us, for the Lord our God is righteous in everything he does;(AK) yet we have not obeyed him.(AL)

15 “Now, Lord our God, who brought your people out of Egypt with a mighty hand(AM) and who made for yourself a name(AN) that endures to this day, we have sinned, we have done wrong. 16 Lord, in keeping with all your righteous acts,(AO) turn away(AP) your anger and your wrath(AQ) from Jerusalem,(AR) your city, your holy hill.(AS) Our sins and the iniquities of our ancestors have made Jerusalem and your people an object of scorn(AT) to all those around us.

17 “Now, our God, hear the prayers and petitions of your servant. For your sake, Lord, look with favor(AU) on your desolate sanctuary. 18 Give ear,(AV) our God, and hear;(AW) open your eyes and see(AX) the desolation of the city that bears your Name.(AY) We do not make requests of you because we are righteous, but because of your great mercy.(AZ) 19 Lord, listen! Lord, forgive!(BA) Lord, hear and act! For your sake,(BB) my God, do not delay, because your city and your people bear your Name.”

The Seventy “Sevens”

20 While I was speaking and praying, confessing(BC) my sin and the sin of my people Israel and making my request to the Lord my God for his holy hill(BD) 21 while I was still in prayer, Gabriel,(BE) the man I had seen in the earlier vision, came to me in swift flight about the time of the evening sacrifice.(BF) 22 He instructed me and said to me, “Daniel, I have now come to give you insight and understanding.(BG) 23 As soon as you began to pray,(BH) a word went out, which I have come to tell you, for you are highly esteemed.(BI) Therefore, consider the word and understand the vision:(BJ)

24 “Seventy ‘sevens’[c] are decreed for your people and your holy city(BK) to finish[d] transgression, to put an end to sin, to atone(BL) for wickedness, to bring in everlasting righteousness,(BM) to seal up vision and prophecy and to anoint the Most Holy Place.[e]

25 “Know and understand this: From the time the word goes out to restore and rebuild(BN) Jerusalem until the Anointed One,[f](BO) the ruler,(BP) comes, there will be seven ‘sevens,’ and sixty-two ‘sevens.’ It will be rebuilt with streets and a trench, but in times of trouble.(BQ) 26 After the sixty-two ‘sevens,’ the Anointed One will be put to death(BR) and will have nothing.[g] The people of the ruler who will come will destroy the city and the sanctuary. The end will come like a flood:(BS) War will continue until the end, and desolations(BT) have been decreed.(BU) 27 He will confirm a covenant with many for one ‘seven.’[h] In the middle of the ‘seven’[i] he will put an end to sacrifice and offering. And at the temple[j] he will set up an abomination that causes desolation, until the end that is decreed(BV) is poured out on him.[k][l]

God’s Covenant Commitment

1-4 “Darius, son of Ahasuerus, born a Mede, became king over the land of Babylon. In the first year of his reign, I, Daniel, was meditating on the Scriptures that gave, according to the Word of God to the prophet Jeremiah, the number of years that Jerusalem had to lie in ruins, namely, seventy. I turned to the Master God, asking for an answer—praying earnestly, fasting from meals, wearing rough penitential burlap, and kneeling in the ashes. I poured out my heart, baring my soul to God, my God:

4-8 “‘O Master, great and august God. You never waver in your covenant commitment, never give up on those who love you and do what you say. Yet we have sinned in every way imaginable. We’ve done evil things, rebelled, dodged and taken detours around your clearly marked paths. We’ve turned a deaf ear to your servants the prophets, who preached your Word to our kings and leaders, our parents, and all the people in the land. You have done everything right, Master, but all we have to show for our lives is guilt and shame, the whole lot of us—people of Judah, citizens of Jerusalem, Israel at home and Israel in exile in all the places we’ve been banished to because of our betrayal of you. Oh yes, God, we’ve been exposed in our shame, all of us—our kings, leaders, parents—before the whole world. And deservedly so, because of our sin.

9-12 “‘Compassion is our only hope, the compassion of you, the Master, our God, since in our rebellion we’ve forfeited our rights. We paid no attention to you when you told us how to live, the clear teaching that came through your servants the prophets. All of us in Israel ignored what you said. We defied your instructions and did what we pleased. And now we’re paying for it: The solemn curse written out plainly in the revelation to God’s servant Moses is now doing its work among us, the wages of our sin against you. You did to us and our rulers what you said you would do: You brought this catastrophic disaster on us, the worst disaster on record—and in Jerusalem!

13-14 “‘Just as written in God’s revelation to Moses, the catastrophe was total. Nothing was held back. We kept at our sinning, never giving you a second thought, oblivious to your clear warning, and so you had no choice but to let the disaster loose on us in full force. You, our God, had a perfect right to do this since we persistently and defiantly ignored you.

15-17 “‘Master, you are our God, for you delivered your people from the land of Egypt in a show of power—people are still talking about it! We confess that we have sinned, that we have lived bad lives. Following the lines of what you have always done in setting things right, settingpeople right, please stop being so angry with Jerusalem, your very own city, your holy mountain. We know it’s our fault that this has happened, all because of our sins and our parents’ sins, and now we’re an embarrassment to everyone around us. We’re a blot on the neighborhood. So listen, God, to this determined prayer of your servant. Have mercy on your ruined Sanctuary. Act out of who you are, not out of what we are.

18 “‘Turn your ears our way, God, and listen. Open your eyes and take a long look at our ruined city, this city named after you. We know that we don’t deserve a hearing from you. Our appeal is to your compassion. This prayer is our last and only hope:

19     “‘Master, listen to us!
    Master, forgive us!
    Master, look at us and do something!
    Master, don’t put us off!
    Your city and your people are named after you:
    You have a stake in us!’

Seventy Sevens

20-21 “While I was pouring out my heart, baring my sins and the sins of my people Israel, praying my life out before my God, interceding for the holy mountain of my God—while I was absorbed in this praying, the humanlike Gabriel, the one I had seen in an earlier vision, approached me, flying in like a bird about the time of evening worship.

22-23 “He stood before me and said, ‘Daniel, I have come to make things plain to you. You had no sooner started your prayer when the answer was given. And now I’m here to deliver the answer to you. You are much loved! So listen carefully to the answer, the plain meaning of what is revealed:

24 “‘Seventy sevens are set for your people and for your holy city to throttle rebellion, stop sin, wipe out crime, set things right forever, confirm what the prophet saw, and anoint The Holy of Holies.

25-26 “‘Here is what you must understand: From the time the word goes out to rebuild Jerusalem until the coming of the Anointed Leader, there will be seven sevens. The rebuilding will take sixty-two sevens, including building streets and digging a moat. Those will be rough times. After the sixty-two sevens, the Anointed Leader will be killed—the end of him. The city and Sanctuary will be laid in ruins by the army of the newly arriving leader. The end will come in a rush, like a flood. War will rage right up to the end, desolation the order of the day.

27 “‘Then for one seven, he will forge many and strong alliances, but halfway through the seven he will banish worship and prayers. At the place of worship, a desecrating obscenity will be set up and remain until finally the desecrator himself is decisively destroyed.’”

In the first year of Darius the son of Ahasuerus, of the seed of the Medes, which was made king over the realm of the Chaldeans;

In the first year of his reign I Daniel understood by books the number of the years, whereof the word of the Lord came to Jeremiah the prophet, that he would accomplish seventy years in the desolations of Jerusalem.

And I set my face unto the Lord God, to seek by prayer and supplications, with fasting, and sackcloth, and ashes:

And I prayed unto the Lord my God, and made my confession, and said, O Lord, the great and dreadful God, keeping the covenant and mercy to them that love him, and to them that keep his commandments;

We have sinned, and have committed iniquity, and have done wickedly, and have rebelled, even by departing from thy precepts and from thy judgments:

Neither have we hearkened unto thy servants the prophets, which spake in thy name to our kings, our princes, and our fathers, and to all the people of the land.

O Lord, righteousness belongeth unto thee, but unto us confusion of faces, as at this day; to the men of Judah, and to the inhabitants of Jerusalem, and unto all Israel, that are near, and that are far off, through all the countries whither thou hast driven them, because of their trespass that they have trespassed against thee.

O Lord, to us belongeth confusion of face, to our kings, to our princes, and to our fathers, because we have sinned against thee.

To the Lord our God belong mercies and forgivenesses, though we have rebelled against him;

10 Neither have we obeyed the voice of the Lord our God, to walk in his laws, which he set before us by his servants the prophets.

11 Yea, all Israel have transgressed thy law, even by departing, that they might not obey thy voice; therefore the curse is poured upon us, and the oath that is written in the law of Moses the servant of God, because we have sinned against him.

12 And he hath confirmed his words, which he spake against us, and against our judges that judged us, by bringing upon us a great evil: for under the whole heaven hath not been done as hath been done upon Jerusalem.

13 As it is written in the law of Moses, all this evil is come upon us: yet made we not our prayer before the Lord our God, that we might turn from our iniquities, and understand thy truth.

14 Therefore hath the Lord watched upon the evil, and brought it upon us: for the Lord our God is righteous in all his works which he doeth: for we obeyed not his voice.

15 And now, O Lord our God, that hast brought thy people forth out of the land of Egypt with a mighty hand, and hast gotten thee renown, as at this day; we have sinned, we have done wickedly.

16 O Lord, according to all thy righteousness, I beseech thee, let thine anger and thy fury be turned away from thy city Jerusalem, thy holy mountain: because for our sins, and for the iniquities of our fathers, Jerusalem and thy people are become a reproach to all that are about us.

17 Now therefore, O our God, hear the prayer of thy servant, and his supplications, and cause thy face to shine upon thy sanctuary that is desolate, for the Lord's sake.

18 O my God, incline thine ear, and hear; open thine eyes, and behold our desolations, and the city which is called by thy name: for we do not present our supplications before thee for our righteousnesses, but for thy great mercies.

19 O Lord, hear; O Lord, forgive; O Lord, hearken and do; defer not, for thine own sake, O my God: for thy city and thy people are called by thy name.

20 And whiles I was speaking, and praying, and confessing my sin and the sin of my people Israel, and presenting my supplication before the Lord my God for the holy mountain of my God;

21 Yea, whiles I was speaking in prayer, even the man Gabriel, whom I had seen in the vision at the beginning, being caused to fly swiftly, touched me about the time of the evening oblation.

22 And he informed me, and talked with me, and said, O Daniel, I am now come forth to give thee skill and understanding.

23 At the beginning of thy supplications the commandment came forth, and I am come to shew thee; for thou art greatly beloved: therefore understand the matter, and consider the vision.

24 Seventy weeks are determined upon thy people and upon thy holy city, to finish the transgression, and to make an end of sins, and to make reconciliation for iniquity, and to bring in everlasting righteousness, and to seal up the vision and prophecy, and to anoint the most Holy.

25 Know therefore and understand, that from the going forth of the commandment to restore and to build Jerusalem unto the Messiah the Prince shall be seven weeks, and threescore and two weeks: the street shall be built again, and the wall, even in troublous times.

26 And after threescore and two weeks shall Messiah be cut off, but not for himself: and the people of the prince that shall come shall destroy the city and the sanctuary; and the end thereof shall be with a flood, and unto the end of the war desolations are determined.

27 And he shall confirm the covenant with many for one week: and in the midst of the week he shall cause the sacrifice and the oblation to cease, and for the overspreading of abominations he shall make it desolate, even until the consummation, and that determined shall be poured upon the desolate.
