10 En el año tercero de Ciro rey de Persia fue revelada palabra a Daniel, llamado Beltsasar; y la palabra era verdadera, y el conflicto grande; pero él comprendió la palabra, y tuvo inteligencia en la visión.
2 En aquellos días yo Daniel estuve afligido por espacio de tres semanas. 3 No comí manjar delicado, ni entró en mi boca carne ni vino, ni me ungí con ungüento, hasta que se cumplieron las tres semanas. 4 Y el día veinticuatro del mes primero estaba yo a la orilla del gran río Hidekel. 5 Y alcé mis ojos y miré, y he aquí un varón vestido de lino,(A) y ceñidos sus lomos de oro de Ufaz. 6 Su cuerpo era como de berilo, y su rostro parecía un relámpago, y sus ojos como antorchas de fuego, y sus brazos y sus pies como de color de bronce bruñido, y el sonido de sus palabras como el estruendo de una multitud. 7 Y sólo yo, Daniel, vi aquella visión, y no la vieron los hombres que estaban conmigo, sino que se apoderó de ellos un gran temor, y huyeron y se escondieron. 8 Quedé, pues, yo solo, y vi esta gran visión, y no quedó fuerza en mí, antes mi fuerza se cambió en desfallecimiento, y no tuve vigor alguno. 9 Pero oí el sonido de sus palabras; y al oír el sonido de sus palabras, caí sobre mi rostro en un profundo sueño, con mi rostro en tierra.
10 Y he aquí una mano me tocó, e hizo que me pusiese sobre mis rodillas y sobre las palmas de mis manos. 11 Y me dijo: Daniel, varón muy amado, está atento a las palabras que te hablaré, y ponte en pie; porque a ti he sido enviado ahora. Mientras hablaba esto conmigo, me puse en pie temblando. 12 Entonces me dijo: Daniel, no temas; porque desde el primer día que dispusiste tu corazón a entender y a humillarte en la presencia de tu Dios, fueron oídas tus palabras; y a causa de tus palabras yo he venido. 13 Mas el príncipe del reino de Persia se me opuso durante veintiún días; pero he aquí Miguel,(B) uno de los principales príncipes, vino para ayudarme, y quedé allí con los reyes de Persia. 14 He venido para hacerte saber lo que ha de venir a tu pueblo en los postreros días; porque la visión es para esos días.
15 Mientras me decía estas palabras, estaba yo con los ojos puestos en tierra, y enmudecido. 16 Pero he aquí, uno con semejanza de hijo de hombre tocó mis labios. Entonces abrí mi boca y hablé, y dije al que estaba delante de mí: Señor mío, con la visión me han sobrevenido dolores, y no me queda fuerza. 17 ¿Cómo, pues, podrá el siervo de mi señor hablar con mi señor? Porque al instante me faltó la fuerza, y no me quedó aliento.
18 Y aquel que tenía semejanza de hombre me tocó otra vez, y me fortaleció, 19 y me dijo: Muy amado, no temas; la paz sea contigo; esfuérzate y aliéntate. Y mientras él me hablaba, recobré las fuerzas, y dije: Hable mi señor, porque me has fortalecido. 20 Él me dijo: ¿Sabes por qué he venido a ti? Pues ahora tengo que volver para pelear contra el príncipe de Persia; y al terminar con él, el príncipe de Grecia vendrá. 21 Pero yo te declararé lo que está escrito en el libro de la verdad; y ninguno me ayuda contra ellos, sino Miguel(C) vuestro príncipe.

10 1-3 Daniel también escribió:
«Yo tuve otro sueño acerca de lo que estaba por pasar. Cuando eso sucedió, Ciro llevaba ya tres años como rey de Persia. También ese sueño era muy difícil de entender, pero yo me propuse entenderlo, y lo logré.
»Durante tres semanas estuve muy triste. No comí carne ni tomé vino, ni probé nada de lo que me gustaba. Tampoco me puse ningún perfume. 4 El día veinticuatro del mes de Abib,[a] yo estaba a la orilla del gran río Tigris. 5 De pronto, miré a alguien parecido a un hombre. Estaba vestido con ropa de lino, y tenía puesto un cinturón de oro puro. 6 Su cuerpo parecía estar hecho de cristal amarillo, y su cara tenía el brillo de un relámpago. Sus ojos parecían llamas de fuego, sus brazos y sus pies brillaban como metal pulido, y hablaba tan fuerte que su voz sonaba como el murmullo de mucha gente. Se trataba del ángel Gabriel.
7-8 »Cuando tuve este sueño, yo estaba solo, pues los que estaban conmigo se asustaron tanto que fueron a esconderse. Hasta yo mismo me puse pálido de miedo, y sentí que me desmayaba.
9 »Al oír que el ángel me hablaba, me desmayé y caí de cara al suelo. 10 Pero el ángel me ayudó a levantarme, y me puso de rodillas, con las manos sobre el suelo. 11 Entonces me dijo: “Daniel, levántate y escucha bien lo que voy a decirte. Dios te ama, y por eso me envió a darte este mensaje”.
»Mientras el ángel hablaba conmigo, yo me puse de pie, pero seguía temblando. 12-14 Y el ángel me dijo:
“Daniel, no tengas miedo. Dios escuchó tus oraciones desde el primer día, cuando trataste de entender ese sueño tan difícil y te humillaste ante él. Por eso Dios me envió a decirte que tú has visto lo que va a pasarle a tu pueblo en el futuro.
”Yo iba a venir antes, pero no pude hacerlo porque, durante veintiún días, el ángel encargado de cuidar al reino de Persia me lo impidió. Yo me había quedado solo, junto a los reyes de Persia, pero vino en mi ayuda Miguel, uno de los ángeles más importantes de todos”.
15 »Mientras el ángel Gabriel me decía todo esto, yo me quedé callado y sólo miraba al suelo. 16-17 Entonces alguien más, que también parecía un hombre, me tocó los labios. Yo le dije al ángel que estaba conmigo: “Mi señor, lo que estoy viendo me llena de angustia y me deja sin fuerzas. ¿Cómo quiere usted que le hable, si casi no puedo respirar?”
18 »Aquel personaje volvió a tocarme, y me dio nuevas fuerzas. 19 Me dijo: “¡No tengas miedo, ni te preocupes de nada! ¡Alégrate y ten valor, pues Dios te ama!”
»Y mientras me decía esto, sentí que me volvían las fuerzas. Entonces le dije: “Mi señor, ahora puede usted hablarme, pues ya tengo nuevas fuerzas”.
20 »Entonces aquel personaje me dijo: “He venido a verte porque tengo que pelear con el ángel encargado de cuidar a Persia. Cuando yo termine de pelear contra él, vendrá el ángel encargado de cuidar a Grecia. 21 En mi lucha contra él, sólo cuento con la ayuda de Miguel, que es el ángel que protege a Israel. Ahora yo te voy a explicar lo que dice el libro de la verdad”».

Daniel's Terrifying Vision of a Man
10 (A)In the third year of Cyrus king of Persia a word was revealed to Daniel, (B)who was named Belteshazzar. And (C)the word was true, and it was a great conflict.[a] And (D)he understood the word and (E)had understanding of the vision.
2 In those days I, Daniel, was mourning for (F)three weeks. 3 I ate no delicacies, no meat or wine entered my mouth, nor did I (G)anoint myself at all, for (H)the full three weeks. 4 On the twenty-fourth day of the first month, as I was standing (I)on the bank of the great river ((J)that is, the Tigris) 5 (K)I lifted up my eyes and looked, and behold, (L)a man clothed in linen, (M)with a belt of fine (N)gold from Uphaz around his waist. 6 His body was like (O)beryl, his face (P)like the appearance of lightning, (Q)his eyes like flaming torches, his arms and (R)legs like the gleam of burnished bronze, and (S)the sound of his words like the sound of a multitude. 7 (T)And I, Daniel, alone saw the vision, for the men who were with me did not see the vision, but a great trembling fell upon them, and they fled to hide themselves. 8 So I was left alone and saw this great vision, and (U)no strength was left in me. My radiant appearance was fearfully changed,[b] (V)and I retained no strength. 9 Then I heard the sound of his words, (W)and as I heard the sound of his words, I fell on my face in deep sleep (X)with my face to the ground.
10 And behold, (Y)a hand touched me and set me trembling on my hands and knees. 11 And he said to me, “O Daniel, (Z)man greatly loved, (AA)understand the words that I speak to you, and (AB)stand upright, for (AC)now I have been sent to you.” And when he had spoken this word to me, I stood up trembling. 12 Then he said to me, (AD)“Fear not, Daniel, for from the first day that you (AE)set your heart to understand and (AF)humbled yourself before your God, (AG)your words have been heard, (AH)and I have come because of your words. 13 (AI)The prince of the kingdom of Persia withstood me (AJ)twenty-one days, but (AK)Michael, one of the chief princes, came to help me, for I was left there with the kings of Persia, 14 (AL)and came to make you understand what is to happen to your people (AM)in the latter days. For (AN)the vision is for days yet to come.”
15 When he had spoken to me according to these words, (AO)I turned my face toward the ground (AP)and was mute. 16 And behold, (AQ)one in the likeness of the children of man (AR)touched my lips. Then I opened my mouth and spoke. I said to him who stood before me, “O my lord, by reason of the vision pains have come upon me, and (AS)I retain no strength. 17 How can my lord's servant talk with my lord? For now no strength remains in me, and no breath is left in me.”
18 Again (AT)one having the appearance of a man (AU)touched me and strengthened me. 19 And he said, (AV)“O man greatly loved, (AW)fear not, peace be with you; be strong and of good courage.” And as he spoke to me, I was strengthened and said, “Let my lord speak, for you have strengthened me.” 20 Then he said, “Do you know why I have come to you? But now I will return to fight against the (AX)prince of Persia; and when I go out, behold, the prince of (AY)Greece will come. 21 But I will tell you (AZ)what is inscribed in the book of truth: there is none who contends by my side against these except (BA)Michael, your prince.

Daniel’s Vision of a Man
10 In the third year of Cyrus(A) king of Persia, a revelation was given to Daniel (who was called Belteshazzar).(B) Its message was true(C) and it concerned a great war.[a] The understanding of the message came to him in a vision.
2 At that time I, Daniel, mourned(D) for three weeks. 3 I ate no choice food; no meat or wine touched my lips;(E) and I used no lotions at all until the three weeks were over.
4 On the twenty-fourth day of the first month, as I was standing on the bank(F) of the great river, the Tigris,(G) 5 I looked up(H) and there before me was a man dressed in linen,(I) with a belt of fine gold(J) from Uphaz around his waist. 6 His body was like topaz,(K) his face like lightning,(L) his eyes like flaming torches,(M) his arms and legs like the gleam of burnished bronze,(N) and his voice(O) like the sound of a multitude.
7 I, Daniel, was the only one who saw the vision; those who were with me did not see it,(P) but such terror overwhelmed them that they fled and hid themselves. 8 So I was left alone,(Q) gazing at this great vision; I had no strength left,(R) my face turned deathly pale(S) and I was helpless.(T) 9 Then I heard him speaking, and as I listened to him, I fell into a deep sleep, my face to the ground.(U)
10 A hand touched me(V) and set me trembling on my hands and knees.(W) 11 He said, “Daniel, you who are highly esteemed,(X) consider carefully the words I am about to speak to you, and stand up,(Y) for I have now been sent to you.” And when he said this to me, I stood up trembling.
12 Then he continued, “Do not be afraid,(Z) Daniel. Since the first day that you set your mind to gain understanding and to humble(AA) yourself before your God, your words(AB) were heard, and I have come in response to them.(AC) 13 But the prince(AD) of the Persian kingdom resisted me twenty-one days. Then Michael,(AE) one of the chief princes, came to help me, because I was detained there with the king of Persia. 14 Now I have come to explain(AF) to you what will happen to your people in the future,(AG) for the vision concerns a time yet to come.(AH)”
15 While he was saying this to me, I bowed with my face toward the ground and was speechless.(AI) 16 Then one who looked like a man[b] touched my lips, and I opened my mouth and began to speak.(AJ) I said to the one standing before me, “I am overcome with anguish(AK) because of the vision, my lord, and I feel very weak. 17 How can I, your servant, talk with you, my lord? My strength is gone and I can hardly breathe.”(AL)
18 Again the one who looked like a man touched(AM) me and gave me strength.(AN) 19 “Do not be afraid, you who are highly esteemed,”(AO) he said. “Peace!(AP) Be strong now; be strong.”(AQ)
When he spoke to me, I was strengthened and said, “Speak, my lord, since you have given me strength.”(AR)
20 So he said, “Do you know why I have come to you? Soon I will return to fight against the prince of Persia, and when I go, the prince of Greece(AS) will come; 21 but first I will tell you what is written in the Book of Truth.(AT) (No one supports me against them except Michael,(AU) your prince.
