12 Then he said to me, “(A)Do not be afraid, Daniel, for from the first day that you set your heart on understanding this and on (B)humbling yourself before your God, your words were heard, and I have come (C)in response to your words. 13 But the prince of the kingdom of Persia was standing [a]in my way for twenty-one days; then behold, (D)Michael, one of the chief princes, came to help me, for I had been left there with the kings of Persia.

12 Then the man in the vision started talking again. He said, “Daniel, do not be afraid. From the very first day you decided to get wisdom and to be humble in front of God, he has been listening to your prayers. I came to you because you have been praying. 13 But the prince[a] of Persia has been fighting against me for 21 days. Then Michael, one of the most important princes, came to help me because I was stuck there with the king of Persia.

12 Then he said, “Don’t be frightened, Daniel, for your request has been heard in heaven and was answered the very first day you began to fast before the Lord and pray for understanding; that very day I was sent here to meet you. 13 But for twenty-one days the mighty Evil Spirit[a] who overrules the kingdom of Persia blocked my way. Then Michael, one of the top officers of the heavenly army, came to help me, so that I was able to break through these spirit rulers of Persia.
