³⁵ and some of the wise shall stumble, so that they may be refined, ^(A)purified, and ^(B)made white, until ^(C)the time of the end, ^(D)for it still awaits the appointed time.

² But ^(A)who can endure the day of his coming, and who can stand when he appears? For ^(B)he is like a refiner's fire and like fullers' soap. ³ He will sit ^(C)as a refiner and purifier of silver, and he will purify the sons of Levi and refine them like gold and silver, and they will bring ^(D)offerings in righteousness to the Lord.^{[a] 4 (E)}Then the offering of Judah and Jerusalem will be pleasing to the Lord as in the days of old and as in former years.

¹⁰ Do not fear what you are about to suffer. Behold, the devil is about to throw some of you into prison, ^(A)that you may be tested, and for ^(B)ten days ^(C)you will have tribulation. ^(D)Be faithful ^(E)unto death, and I will give you ^(F)the crown of life.

^10 (A)Many shall purify themselves and make themselves white and be refined, but ^(B)the wicked shall act wickedly. And none of the wicked shall understand, ^(C)but those who are wise shall understand. ¹¹ And from the time that ^(D)the regular burnt offering is taken away and ^(E)the abomination that makes desolate is set up, there shall be 1,290 days.

¹⁴ I said to him, “Sir, you know.” And he said to me, “These are the ones coming out of ^(A)the great tribulation. ^(B)They have washed their robes and ^(C)made them white ^(D)in the blood of the Lamb.

⁶ In this you rejoice, though now for a little while, if necessary, you have been grieved by ^(A)various trials, ⁷ so that ^(B)the tested genuineness of your faith—more precious than gold that perishes ^(C)though it is tested by ^(D)fire—may be found to result in ^(E)praise and glory and honor at the revelation of Jesus Christ.
