Daniel's Faithfulness

⁸ But Daniel ^(A)resolved that he would not ^(B)defile himself with ^(C)the king's food, or with ^(D)the wine that he drank. Therefore he asked the chief of the eunuchs to allow him not to ^(E)defile himself.

¹³ And the Lord said, “Thus shall the people of Israel eat ^(A)their bread unclean, among the nations where I will drive them.” ¹⁴ Then I said, ^(B)“Ah, Lord God! Behold, I have never defiled myself.^{[a] (C)}From my youth up till now I have never eaten ^(D)what died of itself or was torn by beasts, nor has ^(E)tainted meat come into my mouth.”

^45 (A)For I am the Lord who brought you up out of the land of Egypt to be your God. ^(B)You shall therefore be holy, for I am holy.”

⁴⁶ This is the law about beast and bird and every living creature that moves through the waters and every creature that swarms on the ground, ^47 (C)to make a distinction between the unclean and the clean and between the living creature that may be eaten and the living creature that may not be eaten.

¹⁸ Consider ^(A)the people of Israel:^{[a] (B)}are not those who eat the sacrifices participants in the altar? ¹⁹ What do I imply then? That food offered to idols is anything, or that ^(C)an idol is anything? ²⁰ No, I imply that what pagans sacrifice ^(D)they offer to demons and not to God. I do not want you to be participants with demons. ^21 (E)You cannot drink the cup of the Lord and ^(F)the cup of demons. You cannot partake of the table of the Lord and ^(G)the table of demons.

³⁷ But whoever is firmly established in his heart, being under no necessity but having his desire under control, and has determined this in his heart, to keep her as his betrothed, he will do well.
