The Rider on the White Horse

11 Then I saw heaven opened, and there was a white horse! Its rider is called Faithful and True, and in righteousness he judges and wages war.(A) 12 His eyes are like[a] a flame of fire, and on his head are many diadems, and he has a name inscribed that no one knows but himself.(B) 13 He is clothed in a robe dipped in[b] blood, and his name is called The Word of God.(C) 14 And the armies of heaven, wearing fine linen, white and pure, were following him on white horses. 15 From his mouth comes a sharp sword with which to strike down the nations, and he will rule[c] them with a scepter of iron; he will tread the winepress of the fury of the wrath of God the Almighty.(D) 16 On his robe and on his thigh he has a name inscribed, “King of kings and Lord of lords.”(E)

The Beast and Its Armies Defeated

17 Then I saw an angel standing in the sun, and with a loud voice he called to all the birds that fly in midheaven, “Come, gather for the great supper of God,(F) 18 to eat the flesh of kings, the flesh of captains, the flesh of the mighty, the flesh of horses and their riders—flesh of all, both free and slave, both small and great.”(G) 19 Then I saw the beast and the kings of the earth with their armies gathered to wage war against the rider on the horse and against his army.(H) 20 And the beast was captured, and with it the false prophet who had performed in its presence the signs by which he deceived those who had received the brand of the beast and those who worshiped its image. These two were thrown alive into the lake of fire that burns with sulfur. 21 And the rest were killed by the sword of the rider on the horse, the sword that came from his mouth, and all the birds were gorged with their flesh.

The Heavenly Warrior Defeats the Beast

11 I saw heaven standing open(A) and there before me was a white horse, whose rider(B) is called Faithful and True.(C) With justice he judges and wages war.(D) 12 His eyes are like blazing fire,(E) and on his head are many crowns.(F) He has a name written on him(G) that no one knows but he himself.(H) 13 He is dressed in a robe dipped in blood,(I) and his name is the Word of God.(J) 14 The armies of heaven were following him, riding on white horses and dressed in fine linen,(K) white(L) and clean. 15 Coming out of his mouth is a sharp sword(M) with which to strike down(N) the nations. “He will rule them with an iron scepter.”[a](O) He treads the winepress(P) of the fury of the wrath of God Almighty. 16 On his robe and on his thigh he has this name written:(Q)

king of kings and lord of lords.(R)

17 And I saw an angel standing in the sun, who cried in a loud voice to all the birds(S) flying in midair,(T) “Come,(U) gather together for the great supper of God,(V) 18 so that you may eat the flesh of kings, generals, and the mighty, of horses and their riders, and the flesh of all people,(W) free and slave,(X) great and small.”(Y)

19 Then I saw the beast(Z) and the kings of the earth(AA) and their armies gathered together to wage war against the rider on the horse(AB) and his army. 20 But the beast was captured, and with it the false prophet(AC) who had performed the signs(AD) on its behalf.(AE) With these signs he had deluded(AF) those who had received the mark of the beast(AG) and worshiped its image.(AH) The two of them were thrown alive into the fiery lake(AI) of burning sulfur.(AJ) 21 The rest were killed with the sword(AK) coming out of the mouth of the rider on the horse,(AL) and all the birds(AM) gorged themselves on their flesh.

11 Then I saw a great white throne and the one who sat on it; the earth and the heaven fled from his[b] presence, and no place was found for them.(B) 12 And I saw the dead, great and small, standing before the throne, and books were opened. Also another book was opened, the book of life. And the dead were judged according to their works, as recorded in the books.(C) 13 And the sea gave up the dead who were in it, Death and Hades gave up the dead who were in them, and all were judged according to what they had done.(D) 14 Then Death and Hades were thrown into the lake of fire. The Judgment of the Dead

11 Then I saw a great white throne(I) and him who was seated on it. The earth and the heavens fled from his presence,(J) and there was no place for them. 12 And I saw the dead, great and small,(K) standing before the throne, and books were opened.(L) Another book was opened, which is the book of life.(M) The dead were judged(N) according to what they had done(O) as recorded in the books. 13 The sea gave up the dead that were in it, and death and Hades(P) gave up the dead(Q) that were in them, and each person was judged according to what they had done.(R) 14 Then death(S) and Hades(T) were thrown into the lake of fire.(U) The lake of fire is the second death.(V) 15 Anyone whose name was not found written in the book of life(W) was thrown into the lake of fire.

Then another angel, a second, followed, saying, “Fallen, fallen is Babylon the great! She has made all nations drink of the wine of the wrath of her prostitution.”(A)

Then another angel, a third, followed them, crying with a loud voice, “Those who worship the beast and its image and receive the brand on their foreheads or on their hands,(B) 10 they will also drink the wine of God’s wrath, poured unmixed into the cup of his anger, and they will be tormented with fire and sulfur in the presence of the holy angels and in the presence of the Lamb.(C) 11 And the smoke of their torment goes up forever and ever. There is no rest day or night for those who worship the beast and its image and for anyone who receives the brand of its name.”(D)

12 Here is a call for the endurance of the saints, those who keep the commandments of God and hold fast to the faith of[a] Jesus.(E)

13 And I heard a voice from heaven saying, “Write this: Blessed are the dead who from now on die in the Lord.” “Yes,”[b] says the Spirit, “they will rest from their labors, for their deeds follow them.”(F)

Reaping the Earth’s Harvest

14 Then I looked, and there was a white cloud, and seated on the cloud was one like the Son of Man, with a golden crown on his head and a sharp sickle in his hand!(G) 15 Another angel came out of the temple, calling with a loud voice to the one who sat on the cloud, “Use your sickle and reap, for the hour to reap has come, because the harvest of the earth is fully ripe.”(H) 16 So the one who sat on the cloud swung his sickle over the earth, and the earth was reaped.

17 Then another angel came out of the temple in heaven, and he, too, had a sharp sickle. 18 Then another angel came out from the altar, the angel who has authority over fire, and he called with a loud voice to him who had the sharp sickle, “Use your sharp sickle and gather the clusters of the vine of the earth, for its grapes are ripe.”(I) 19 So the angel swung his sickle over the earth and gathered the vintage of the earth, and he threw it into the great winepress of the wrath of God. 20 And the winepress was trodden outside the city, and blood flowed from the winepress, as high as a horse’s bridle, for a distance of about one thousand six hundred stadia.(J)

A second angel followed and said, “‘Fallen! Fallen is Babylon the Great,’[a](A) which made all the nations drink the maddening wine of her adulteries.”(B)

A third angel followed them and said in a loud voice: “If anyone worships the beast(C) and its image(D) and receives its mark on their forehead(E) or on their hand, 10 they, too, will drink the wine of God’s fury,(F) which has been poured full strength into the cup of his wrath.(G) They will be tormented with burning sulfur(H) in the presence of the holy angels and of the Lamb. 11 And the smoke of their torment will rise for ever and ever.(I) There will be no rest day or night(J) for those who worship the beast and its image,(K) or for anyone who receives the mark of its name.”(L) 12 This calls for patient endurance(M) on the part of the people of God(N) who keep his commands(O) and remain faithful to Jesus.

13 Then I heard a voice from heaven say, “Write this: Blessed are the dead who die in the Lord(P) from now on.”

“Yes,” says the Spirit,(Q) “they will rest from their labor, for their deeds will follow them.”

Harvesting the Earth and Trampling the Winepress

14 I looked, and there before me was a white cloud,(R) and seated on the cloud was one like a son of man[b](S) with a crown(T) of gold on his head and a sharp sickle in his hand. 15 Then another angel came out of the temple(U) and called in a loud voice to him who was sitting on the cloud, “Take your sickle(V) and reap, because the time to reap has come, for the harvest(W) of the earth is ripe.” 16 So he who was seated on the cloud swung his sickle over the earth, and the earth was harvested.

17 Another angel came out of the temple in heaven, and he too had a sharp sickle.(X) 18 Still another angel, who had charge of the fire, came from the altar(Y) and called in a loud voice to him who had the sharp sickle, “Take your sharp sickle(Z) and gather the clusters of grapes from the earth’s vine, because its grapes are ripe.” 19 The angel swung his sickle on the earth, gathered its grapes and threw them into the great winepress of God’s wrath.(AA) 20 They were trampled in the winepress(AB) outside the city,(AC) and blood(AD) flowed out of the press, rising as high as the horses’ bridles for a distance of 1,600 stadia.[c]

his clothing was white as snow
    and the hair of his head like pure wool;
his throne was fiery flames,
