3 (C)Abasajja ba Yuda ne bagamba baganda baabwe abasajja ba Simyoni[a] nti, “Tugende ffenna mu kitundu kyaffe ekyatuweebwa tulwanyise Abakanani, era naffe tuligenda nammwe mu kitundu ekyabaweebwa.” Awo ne bagenda bonna.
4 (D)Yuda n’alumba Abakanani n’Abaperezi e Bezeki era Mukama n’amuwa obuwanguzi n’abattamu abasajja omutwalo mulamba. 5 Ne bagwikiriza Adonibezeki mu Bezeki; ne bamulwanyisa era ne batta abasajja be. 6 Naye Adonibezeki ne yeemulula, ne bamuwondera, ne bamukwata era ne bamusalako engalo ze ensajja n’ebigere ebisajja[b].
7 (E)Adonibezeki ne yejjusa n’agamba nti, “Nga bakabaka ensanvu abaasalibwako engalo zaabwe ensajja n’ebigere ebisajja, bwe baalondalondanga obukunkumuka wansi w’emmeeza yange, nange bwe ŋŋenda okuba. Kye nakola bannange Katonda nange akintusizzaako.” Ne bamutwala e Yerusaalemi n’afiira eyo. 8 (F)Abasajja ba Yuda ne balumba ekibuga Yerusaalemi ne bakiwamba ne batta abantu baamu n’ekitala, oluvannyuma ne bakyokya.
9 (G)Awo abasajja ba Yuda ne balumba Abakanani abaabeeranga mu nsozi ne mu biwonvu ne mu bukiika obwa ddyo. 10 (H)Ate Yuda n’alumba Abakanani abaabeeranga e Kebbulooni (edda ekyayitibwanga Kiriasualuba), mu lutalo olwali eyo mwe battira Sesayi, Akimaani ne Talumaayi.
11 (I)Ate n’avaayo n’alumba abaabeeranga e Debiri edda ekyayitibwanga Kiriasuseferi. 12 Awo Kalebu n’agamba nti, “Oyo alirumba Kiriasuseferi n’akiwamba ndimuwa muwala wange Akusa okumuwasa.” 13 Osunieri, omwana wa Kenazi muto wa Kalebu n’akiwamba bw’atyo n’aweebwa Akusa okumuwasa.
14 Awo Osunieri bwe yamala okuwasa Akusa n’amufukuutirira asabe kitaawe ennimiro; Akusa n’addayo eri kitaawe, bwe yali ava ku ndogoyi, Kalebe n’amubuuza nti, “Oyagala ki?” 15 N’amuddamu nti, “Wampa ensi nkalu ey’obukiikaddyo naye kaakano nnyongera ekitundu ekirimu n’enzizi ez’amazzi.” Kalebu n’amuwa ekitundu ekirimu enzizi ekyengulu n’ekyemmanga. 16 (J)Abazzukulu b’Omukeeni, mukoddomi wa Musa ne bava mu kibuga eky’enkindu ne bagendera wamu n’abasajja ba Yuda ne batuuka mu ddungu lya Yuda eryali mu bukiikaddyo obwa Aladi ne babeera wamu n’abantu baayo.
17 (K)Awo Yuda n’agenda ne muganda we Simyoni ne balumba Abakanani abaabeeranga e Zefasi, ne babazikiririza ddala era ne bakituuma erinnya Koluma[c]. 18 (L)Era Yuda n’awamba Gaza, Asukulooni ne Ekuloni n’ebitundu ebyetoolodde ebibuga bino.
19 (M)Mukama yali wamu ne Yuda n’awangula abantu abaabeeranga mu nsozi okuggyako yalemwa okuwangula abantu abaabeeranga mu kiwonvu kubanga baalina amagaali ag’ekyuma. 20 (N)Kebbulooni n’ekiweebwa Kalebu, nga Musa bwe yalagira, n’akifuumulamu batabani ba Anaki abasatu. 21 (O)Naye abasajja ba Benyamini tebaagoba Bayebusi abaabeeranga mu Yerusaalemi noolwekyo Abayebusi babeera wamu n’abasajja ba Benyamini mu Yerusaalemi n’okutuusa kaakano.
22 N’abasajja ba Yusufu ne balumba Beseri era Mukama yali wamu nabo. 23 (P)Abasajja ba Yusufu ne batuma abakessi okuketta ekibuga ky’e Beseri edda ekyayitibwanga Luzi. 24 (Q)Abakessi bwe baalaba omusajja ng’ava mu kibuga ne bamugamba nti, “Tukwegayiridde tulage omulyango oguyingira mu kibuga naffe tunaakuyisa bulungi.” 25 (R)Awo bwe yabalaga awayingirirwa, ne bazikiriza n’ekitala abantu b’omu kibuga ekyo; ne batakola kabi konna ku musajja oyo n’ab’omu nnyumba ye bonna. 26 Omusajja oyo n’asengukira mu nsi y’Abakiiti, n’azimbayo n’ekibuga n’akituuma Luzi, n’okutuusa kaakano bwe kiyitibwa.
27 (S)Ye Manase teyagoba bantu abaabeeranga mu Besuseani, ne mu Taanaki ne mu Poliyadde abaabeeranga mu Ibuleamu, ne mu Megiddo, n’ebyalo ebiriraanye ebibuga ebyo. Naye Abakanani ne bagaanira ddala okuva mu nsi eyo. 28 Awo Abayisirayiri bwe beeyongera amaanyi ne bawaliriza Abakanani okubakoleranga emirimu mu kifo ky’okugobwa mu nsi eyo. 29 (T)Era ne Efulayimu teyagoba Bakanani naye yabakkiriza okubeera awamu naye mu Gezeri. 30 Era ne Zebbulooni teyagoba abantu abaabeeranga mu Kitulooni yadde abaabeeranga mu Nakaloli, naye Abakanani bano n’abakkiriza okubeeranga awamu naye nga bwe bamusasula omusolo. 31 (U)Aseri teyagoba bantu abaabeeranga mu Akko yadde ab’omu Sidoni n’ab’omu Alaba n’ab’omu Akuzibu n’ab’omu Keruba n’ab’omu Afiki yadde ab’omu Lekobu, 32 naye Abakanani ne bakkirizibwa okubeera awamu n’abantu ba Aseri. 33 (V)Nafutaali teyagoba bantu abaabeeranga mu Besusemesi ne mu Besuanasi naye n’abakkirizanga okubeeranga awamu n’abantu be nga bwe bamusasula omusolo. 34 (W)Bo abasajja ba Ddaani tebaasobola kuwamba nsi y’Abamoli ey’omu kiwonvu era Abamoli ne babafuumuula ne baabazaayo mu nsozi. 35 (X)Newaakubadde Abamoli baalwanirira nnyo okubeera ku lusozi Keresi, mu Ayalooni ne Saalubimu naye ab’omu kika kya Yusufu ne babafufuggaza era ne babawaliriza okubawanga omusolo. 36 (Y)Ensalo y’Abamoli yayitanga awo ng’oyambuka Akulabbimu n’okweyongerayo.

1 Dopo la morte di Giosuè, i figli d'Israele consultarono l'Eterno, dicendo: «Chi di noi andrà per primo a combattere contro i Cananei?».
2 L'Eterno rispose: «Andrá Giuda; ecco, io ho dato il paese nelle sue mani».
3 Allora Giuda disse a Simeone suo fratello: «Vieni con me nel paese che mi è toccato in sorte, e combatteremo contro i Cananei; poi anch'io verrò con te nel paese che è toccato in sorte a te». E Simeone partì con lui.
4 Giuda dunque andò, e l'Eterno diede nelle loro mani i Cananei e i Perezei; e a Bezek uccisero diecimila uomini.
5 A Bezek trovarono Adoni-Bezek e l'attaccarono; e sconfissero i Cananei e i Perezei.
6 Adoni-Bezek fuggì, ma essi lo inseguirono, lo presero e gli tagliarono le dita grosse delle mani e dei piedi.
7 Allora Adoni-Bezek disse: «Settanta re con le dita grosse delle loro mani e dei loro piedi tagliate raccoglievano gli avanzi sotto la mia mensa. DIO mi ha reso ciò che io ho fatto». Lo portarono quindi a Gerusalemme dove morì.
8 I figli di Giuda attaccarono Gerusalemme e la presero; passarono gli abitanti a fil di spada e diedero la città alle fiamme.
9 Poi i figli di Giuda scesero a combattere contro i Cananei che abitavano la regione montuosa, il Neghev e il bassopiano.
10 Giuda marciò quindi contro i Cananei che abitavano a Hebron, (il cui nome era prima Kirjath-Arba) e sconfisse Sceshai, Ahiman e Talmai.
11 Di là marciò contro gli abitanti di Debir, (che prima si chiamava Kirath-Sefer).
12 Allora Caleb disse: «A chi attaccherà Kirath-Sefer e la espugnerà io darò in moglie mia figlia Aksah».
13 La espugnò Othniel, figlio di Kenaz, fratello minore di Caleb, e questi gli diede in moglie sua figlia Aksah.
14 Quando ella venne a stare con lui, lo persuase a chiedere a suo padre un campo. Appena essa smontò dall'asino, Caleb le disse: «Che vuoi?».
15 Essa rispose: «Fammi un dono; poiché tu mi hai dato della terra nel Neghev dammi anche delle sorgenti d'acqua». Allora egli le donò le sorgenti superiori e le sorgenti inferiori.
16 Or i figli del Keneo, suocero di Mosè, salirono dalla città delle palme con i figli di Giuda nel deserto di Giuda, che si trova nel Neghev, vicino a Arad; andarono e si stabilirono fra il popolo.
17 Poi Giuda partì con Simeone suo fratello e sconfissero i Cananei che abitavano in Tsefath, e la votarono allo sterminio; per questo la città fu chiamata Hormah.
18 Giuda prese anche Gaza col suo territorio, Askalon col suo territorio ed Ekron col suo territorio.
19 Così l'Eterno fu con Giuda, che scacciò gli abitati della regione montuosa; ma non potè scacciare gli abitanti della pianura. perché avevano dei carri di ferro.
20 Diedero quindi Hebron a Caleb, come Mosè aveva detto; ed egli ne scacciò i tre figli di Anak.
21 I figli di Beniamino non scacciarono i Gebusei che abitavano Gerusalemme; così i Gebusei hanno abitato con i figli di Beniamino in Gerusalemme fino al giorno d'oggi.
22 La casa di Giuseppe salì anch'essa contro Bethel, e l'Eterno fu con loro.
23 La casa di Giuseppe mandò ad esplorare Bethel, (città che prima si chiamava Luz)
24 Gli esploratori videro un uomo che usciva dalla città e gli dissero: «Deh mostraci la via di accesso alla città e noi ti useremo misericordia».
25 Egli mostrò loro la via di accesso alla città, ed essi passarono gli abitanti della città a fil di spada, ma lasciarono andare quell'uomo con tutta la sua famiglia.
26 Costui andò nel paese degli Hittei e vi edificò una città che chiamò Luz, nome che porta fino al giorno d'oggi.
27 Manasse invece non scacciò gli abitanti i Beth-Scean e dei suoi villaggi limitrofi, né quelli i Taanak e dei suoi villaggi limitrofi, né gli abitanti di Dor e dei suoi villaggi limitrofi, né gli abitanti d'Ibleam e dei suoi villaggi limitrofi, né gli abitanti di Meghiddo e dei suoi villaggi limitrofi, perché i Cananei erano risoluti a restare in quel paese.
28 In seguito, quando Israele divenne forte, assoggettò i Cananei a servitú ma non li scacciò del tutto.
29 Neppure Efraim scacciò i Cananei che abitavano a Ghezer, così i Cananei abitarono in Ghezer in mezzo a loro.
30 Neppure Zabulon scacciò gli abitanti di Kitron e gli abitanti di Nahalol; così i Cananei abitarono in mezzo a loro ma furono sottoposti a servitú.
31 Neppure Ascer scacciò gli abitanti di Akko, né gli abitanti di Sidone, né quelli di Ahlab, di Akzib, di Helbah, di Afik e di Rehob;
32 così i figli di Ascer si stabilirono in mezzo ai Cananei che abitavano il paese, perché non li scacciarono.
33 Neppure Neftali scacciò gli abitanti di Betfi-Scemesh e gli abitanti di Bet-Anath, e si stabilì in mezzo ai Cananei che abitavano il paese; ma gli abitanti di Beth-Scemesh e di Beth-Anath furono da loro sottoposti a servitú.
34 Gli Amorei costrinsero i figli di Dan a rimanere nella regione montuosa e non li lasciarono scendere nella valle.
35 Gli Amorei erano risoluti a restare sul monte Heres, ad Ajalon e a Shaalbim; ma quando la mano della casa di Giuseppe si rafforzò, essi furono sottoposti a servitú.
36 Il confine degli Amorei si estendeva dalla salita di Akrabbim da Sela in su.

1 Now after the death of Joshua it came to pass, that the children of Israel asked the Lord, saying, Who shall go up for us against the Canaanites first, to fight against them?
2 And the Lord said, Judah shall go up: behold, I have delivered the land into his hand.
3 And Judah said unto Simeon his brother, Come up with me into my lot, that we may fight against the Canaanites; and I likewise will go with thee into thy lot. So Simeon went with him.
4 And Judah went up; and the Lord delivered the Canaanites and the Perizzites into their hand: and they slew of them in Bezek ten thousand men.
5 And they found Adonibezek in Bezek: and they fought against him, and they slew the Canaanites and the Perizzites.
6 But Adonibezek fled; and they pursued after him, and caught him, and cut off his thumbs and his great toes.
7 And Adonibezek said, Threescore and ten kings, having their thumbs and their great toes cut off, gathered their meat under my table: as I have done, so God hath requited me. And they brought him to Jerusalem, and there he died.
8 Now the children of Judah had fought against Jerusalem, and had taken it, and smitten it with the edge of the sword, and set the city on fire.
9 And afterward the children of Judah went down to fight against the Canaanites, that dwelt in the mountain, and in the south, and in the valley.
10 And Judah went against the Canaanites that dwelt in Hebron: (now the name of Hebron before was Kirjatharba:) and they slew Sheshai, and Ahiman, and Talmai.
11 And from thence he went against the inhabitants of Debir: and the name of Debir before was Kirjathsepher:
12 And Caleb said, He that smiteth Kirjathsepher, and taketh it, to him will I give Achsah my daughter to wife.
13 And Othniel the son of Kenaz, Caleb's younger brother, took it: and he gave him Achsah his daughter to wife.
14 And it came to pass, when she came to him, that she moved him to ask of her father a field: and she lighted from off her ass; and Caleb said unto her, What wilt thou?
15 And she said unto him, Give me a blessing: for thou hast given me a south land; give me also springs of water. And Caleb gave her the upper springs and the nether springs.
16 And the children of the Kenite, Moses' father in law, went up out of the city of palm trees with the children of Judah into the wilderness of Judah, which lieth in the south of Arad; and they went and dwelt among the people.
17 And Judah went with Simeon his brother, and they slew the Canaanites that inhabited Zephath, and utterly destroyed it. And the name of the city was called Hormah.
18 Also Judah took Gaza with the coast thereof, and Askelon with the coast thereof, and Ekron with the coast thereof.
19 And the Lord was with Judah; and he drave out the inhabitants of the mountain; but could not drive out the inhabitants of the valley, because they had chariots of iron.
20 And they gave Hebron unto Caleb, as Moses said: and he expelled thence the three sons of Anak.
21 And the children of Benjamin did not drive out the Jebusites that inhabited Jerusalem; but the Jebusites dwell with the children of Benjamin in Jerusalem unto this day.
22 And the house of Joseph, they also went up against Bethel: and the Lord was with them.
23 And the house of Joseph sent to descry Bethel. (Now the name of the city before was Luz.)
24 And the spies saw a man come forth out of the city, and they said unto him, Shew us, we pray thee, the entrance into the city, and we will shew thee mercy.
25 And when he shewed them the entrance into the city, they smote the city with the edge of the sword; but they let go the man and all his family.
26 And the man went into the land of the Hittites, and built a city, and called the name thereof Luz: which is the name thereof unto this day.
27 Neither did Manasseh drive out the inhabitants of Bethshean and her towns, nor Taanach and her towns, nor the inhabitants of Dor and her towns, nor the inhabitants of Ibleam and her towns, nor the inhabitants of Megiddo and her towns: but the Canaanites would dwell in that land.
28 And it came to pass, when Israel was strong, that they put the Canaanites to tribute, and did not utterly drive them out.
29 Neither did Ephraim drive out the Canaanites that dwelt in Gezer; but the Canaanites dwelt in Gezer among them.
30 Neither did Zebulun drive out the inhabitants of Kitron, nor the inhabitants of Nahalol; but the Canaanites dwelt among them, and became tributaries.
31 Neither did Asher drive out the inhabitants of Accho, nor the inhabitants of Zidon, nor of Ahlab, nor of Achzib, nor of Helbah, nor of Aphik, nor of Rehob:
32 But the Asherites dwelt among the Canaanites, the inhabitants of the land: for they did not drive them out.
33 Neither did Naphtali drive out the inhabitants of Bethshemesh, nor the inhabitants of Bethanath; but he dwelt among the Canaanites, the inhabitants of the land: nevertheless the inhabitants of Bethshemesh and of Bethanath became tributaries unto them.
34 And the Amorites forced the children of Dan into the mountain: for they would not suffer them to come down to the valley:
35 But the Amorites would dwell in mount Heres in Aijalon, and in Shaalbim: yet the hand of the house of Joseph prevailed, so that they became tributaries.
36 And the coast of the Amorites was from the going up to Akrabbim, from the rock, and upward.
