24 ¶ Y cinco días después descendió el príncipe de los sacerdotes, Ananías, con algunos de los ancianos, y un cierto Tértulo, orador; y comparecieron delante del gobernador contra Pablo.
2 Y citado que fue, Tértulo comenzó a acusarle, diciendo: Como por causa tuya vivamos en gran paz, y muchas cosas son bien gobernadas en el pueblo por tu prudencia,
3 siempre y en todo lugar lo recibimos con todo hacimiento de gracias, oh excelentísimo Félix.
4 Pero por no molestarte más largamente, te ruego que nos oigas brevemente conforme a tu clemencia.
5 Porque hemos hallado que este hombre es pestilencial, y levantador de sediciones a todos los judíos por todo el mundo, y príncipe de la sediciosa secta de los nazarenos;
6 el cual también intentó violar el Templo; y prendiéndole, le quisimos juzgar conforme a nuestra ley;
7 mas interviniendo el tribuno Lisias, con gran violencia le quitó de nuestras manos,
8 mandando a sus acusadores que vinieran a ti; del cual tú mismo juzgando, podrás entender todas estas cosas de que le acusamos.
9 Y contendían también los judíos, diciendo ser así estas cosas.
10 ¶ Entonces Pablo, haciéndole el gobernador señal que hablara, respondió: Porque sé que desde hace muchos años eres gobernador de esta nación, con buen ánimo satisfaré por mí.
11 Porque tú puedes entender que no hace más de doce días que subí a adorar a Jerusalén;
12 y ni me hallaron en el Templo disputando con ninguno, ni haciendo concurso de multitud, ni en sinagogas, ni en la ciudad;
13 ni te pueden probar las cosas de que ahora me acusan.
14 Pero esto te confieso, que conforme a aquel Camino que ellos llaman secta, así sirvo al Dios de mi patria, creyendo todas las cosas que en la ley y en los profetas están escritas;
15 teniendo esperanza en Dios que ha de haber la resurrección de los muertos, así de justos como de injustos, que ellos esperan.
16 Y por esto, procuro yo tener siempre conciencia sin remordimiento acerca de Dios y acerca de los hombres.
17 Pero pasados muchos años, vine a hacer limosnas a mi nación, y ofrendas,
18 cuando me hallaron purificado en el Templo (no con multitud ni con alboroto) unos judíos de Asia;
19 los cuales debieron comparecer delante de ti, y acusarme, si contra mí tenían algo.
20 O digan estos mismos si hallaron en mí alguna cosa mal hecha, cuando yo estuve en el concilio,
21 si no sea que, estando entre ellos prorrumpí en alta voz: Acerca de la resurrección de los muertos soy hoy juzgado de vosotros.
22 ¶ Entonces Félix, oídas estas cosas, les puso dilación, diciendo: Al estar más informado de este camino, cuando descendiere el tribuno Lisias acabaré de conocer de vuestro negocio.
23 Y mandó al centurión que Pablo fuera guardado, y aliviado de las prisiones; y que no vedara a ninguno de los suyos servirle, o venir a él.
24 Y algunos días después, viniendo Félix con Drusila, su mujer, la cual era judía, llamó a Pablo, y oyó de él la fe que es en el Cristo.
25 Y disertando él de la justicia, y del dominio propio, y del juicio venidero, espantado Félix, respondió: Ahora vete, mas cuando tenga oportunidad te llamaré.
26 Esperando también con esto, que de parte de Pablo le serían dados dineros, para que le soltara; por lo cual, haciéndole venir muchas veces, hablaba con él.
27 Pero al cabo de dos años recibió Félix por sucesor a Porcio Festo; y queriendo Félix ganar la gracia de los judíos, dejó preso a Pablo.

Anklagelsen mot Paulus
24 Fem dagar senare kom översteprästen Ananias dit ner tillsammans med några äldste och en jurist, en viss Tertullus, och de framförde inför landshövdingen klagomål mot Paulus. 2 När Paulus kallats in, började Tertullus anklaga honom och säga: 3 "Att det tack vare dig, högt ärade Felix, länge har rått fred och att detta folk överallt och på alla sätt har fått det mycket bättre, det erkänner vi med största tacksamhet. 4 För att inte besvära dig alltför länge, ber jag dig ha godheten att lyssna till vad vi i korthet har att säga. 5 Vi har nämligen funnit att den här mannen är en pestböld och ställer till oroligheter bland alla judar runt om i världen, och att han är ledare för nasareernas sekt.[a] 6 Han har till och med försökt vanhelga templet, och därför grep vi honom.[b] 8 När du själv förhör honom, kan du ta reda på allt som vi anklagar honom för." 9 Judarna[c] instämde och påstod att det förhöll sig på det sättet.
Paulus försvarstal
10 Då landshövdingen gav tecken åt Paulus att tala, gav han sitt svar: "Eftersom jag vet att du i många år har varit domare över detta folk, försvarar jag min sak med tillförsikt. 11 Du kan själv förvissa dig om att det inte är mer än tolv dagar sedan jag for upp till Jerusalem för att tillbe. 12 Varken i templet eller i synagogorna eller ute i staden har de sett mig diskutera med någon eller ställa till oroligheter bland folket. 13 Och de kan inte heller bevisa inför dig vad de nu anklagar mig för. 14 Men det bekänner jag för dig att jag enligt 'den vägen' som de kallar för en sekt, tjänar mina fäders Gud på det sättet att jag tror på allt som är skrivet i lagen och hos profeterna. 15 Och jag har samma hopp till Gud som de, att både rättfärdiga och orättfärdiga skall uppstå en gång. 16 Därför strävar jag själv efter att alltid ha ett gott samvete inför Gud och människor.
17 Efter flera år kom jag för att överlämna gåvor åt mitt folk och för att frambära offer. 18 Då fann de mig i templet sedan jag renat mig,[d] och där var ingen folkmassa eller något tumult. 19 Men där fanns några judar från Asien, som egentligen skulle stå här inför dig och anklaga mig, om de hade något att anföra emot mig. 20 Eller låt dessa män själva tala om vilket brott de fann mig skyldig till när jag stod inför Stora rådet, 21 om det inte skulle vara för detta enda ord som jag ropade när jag stod ibland dem: Det är för de dödas uppståndelse som jag i dag står anklagad inför er."
Paulus i fängelse
22 Felix, som mycket väl kände till 'den vägen', uppsköt nu rättegången och sade: "När befälhavaren Lysias kommer hit ner, skall jag avgöra målet." 23 Och han befallde officeren att hålla Paulus fängslad och samtidigt ge honom en viss lättnad och inte hindra någon av hans vänner från att vara honom till hjälp.
24 Några dagar senare infann sig Felix tillsammans med sin hustru Drusilla,[e] som var judinna. Och han lät hämta Paulus och hörde honom tala om tron på Kristus Jesus. 25 Men då Paulus talade om rättfärdighet och självbehärskning och den kommande domen, blev Felix förskräckt och sade: "Gå din väg för den här gången. När jag får tid skall jag kalla på dig." 26 Samtidigt hoppades han att Paulus skulle erbjuda honom pengar. Därför lät han ofta hämta honom och samtalade med honom. 27 När två år hade gått, efterträddes Felix av Porcius Festus. Och då Felix ville hålla sig väl med judarna, lät han Paulus stanna kvar i fängelset.

Paul’s Trial Before Felix
24 Five days later the high priest Ananias(A) went down to Caesarea with some of the elders and a lawyer named Tertullus, and they brought their charges(B) against Paul before the governor.(C) 2 When Paul was called in, Tertullus presented his case before Felix: “We have enjoyed a long period of peace under you, and your foresight has brought about reforms in this nation. 3 Everywhere and in every way, most excellent(D) Felix, we acknowledge this with profound gratitude. 4 But in order not to weary you further, I would request that you be kind enough to hear us briefly.
5 “We have found this man to be a troublemaker, stirring up riots(E) among the Jews(F) all over the world. He is a ringleader of the Nazarene(G) sect(H) 6 and even tried to desecrate the temple;(I) so we seized him. [7] [a] 8 By examining him yourself you will be able to learn the truth about all these charges we are bringing against him.”
9 The other Jews joined in the accusation,(J) asserting that these things were true.
10 When the governor(K) motioned for him to speak, Paul replied: “I know that for a number of years you have been a judge over this nation; so I gladly make my defense. 11 You can easily verify that no more than twelve days(L) ago I went up to Jerusalem to worship. 12 My accusers did not find me arguing with anyone at the temple,(M) or stirring up a crowd(N) in the synagogues or anywhere else in the city. 13 And they cannot prove to you the charges they are now making against me.(O) 14 However, I admit that I worship the God of our ancestors(P) as a follower of the Way,(Q) which they call a sect.(R) I believe everything that is in accordance with the Law and that is written in the Prophets,(S) 15 and I have the same hope in God as these men themselves have, that there will be a resurrection(T) of both the righteous and the wicked.(U) 16 So I strive always to keep my conscience clear(V) before God and man.
17 “After an absence of several years, I came to Jerusalem to bring my people gifts for the poor(W) and to present offerings. 18 I was ceremonially clean(X) when they found me in the temple courts doing this. There was no crowd with me, nor was I involved in any disturbance.(Y) 19 But there are some Jews from the province of Asia,(Z) who ought to be here before you and bring charges if they have anything against me.(AA) 20 Or these who are here should state what crime they found in me when I stood before the Sanhedrin— 21 unless it was this one thing I shouted as I stood in their presence: ‘It is concerning the resurrection of the dead that I am on trial before you today.’”(AB)
22 Then Felix, who was well acquainted with the Way,(AC) adjourned the proceedings. “When Lysias the commander comes,” he said, “I will decide your case.” 23 He ordered the centurion to keep Paul under guard(AD) but to give him some freedom(AE) and permit his friends to take care of his needs.(AF)
24 Several days later Felix came with his wife Drusilla, who was Jewish. He sent for Paul and listened to him as he spoke about faith in Christ Jesus.(AG) 25 As Paul talked about righteousness, self-control(AH) and the judgment(AI) to come, Felix was afraid(AJ) and said, “That’s enough for now! You may leave. When I find it convenient, I will send for you.” 26 At the same time he was hoping that Paul would offer him a bribe, so he sent for him frequently and talked with him.
27 When two years had passed, Felix was succeeded by Porcius Festus,(AK) but because Felix wanted to grant a favor to the Jews,(AL) he left Paul in prison.(AM)

2 And when he was called forth, Tertullus began to accuse him, saying, Seeing that by thee we enjoy great quietness, and that very worthy deeds are done unto this nation by thy providence,
3 We accept it always, and in all places, most noble Felix, with all thankfulness.
4 Notwithstanding, that I be not further tedious unto thee, I pray thee that thou wouldest hear us of thy clemency a few words.
5 For we have found this man a pestilent fellow, and a mover of sedition among all the Jews throughout the world, and a ringleader of the sect of the Nazarenes:
6 Who also hath gone about to profane the temple: whom we took, and would have judged according to our law.
7 But the chief captain Lysias came upon us, and with great violence took him away out of our hands,
8 Commanding his accusers to come unto thee: by examining of whom thyself mayest take knowledge of all these things, whereof we accuse him.
9 And the Jews also assented, saying that these things were so.
10 Then Paul, after that the governor had beckoned unto him to speak, answered, Forasmuch as I know that thou hast been of many years a judge unto this nation, I do the more cheerfully answer for myself:
11 Because that thou mayest understand, that there are yet but twelve days since I went up to Jerusalem for to worship.
12 And they neither found me in the temple disputing with any man, neither raising up the people, neither in the synagogues, nor in the city:
13 Neither can they prove the things whereof they now accuse me.
14 But this I confess unto thee, that after the way which they call heresy, so worship I the God of my fathers, believing all things which are written in the law and in the prophets:
15 And have hope toward God, which they themselves also allow, that there shall be a resurrection of the dead, both of the just and unjust.
16 And herein do I exercise myself, to have always a conscience void to offence toward God, and toward men.
17 Now after many years I came to bring alms to my nation, and offerings.
18 Whereupon certain Jews from Asia found me purified in the temple, neither with multitude, nor with tumult.
19 Who ought to have been here before thee, and object, if they had ought against me.
20 Or else let these same here say, if they have found any evil doing in me, while I stood before the council,
21 Except it be for this one voice, that I cried standing among them, Touching the resurrection of the dead I am called in question by you this day.
22 And when Felix heard these things, having more perfect knowledge of that way, he deferred them, and said, When Lysias the chief captain shall come down, I will know the uttermost of your matter.
23 And he commanded a centurion to keep Paul, and to let him have liberty, and that he should forbid none of his acquaintance to minister or come unto him.
24 And after certain days, when Felix came with his wife Drusilla, which was a Jewess, he sent for Paul, and heard him concerning the faith in Christ.
25 And as he reasoned of righteousness, temperance, and judgment to come, Felix trembled, and answered, Go thy way for this time; when I have a convenient season, I will call for thee.
26 He hoped also that money should have been given him of Paul, that he might loose him: wherefore he sent for him the oftener, and communed with him.
27 But after two years Porcius Festus came into Felix' room: and Felix, willing to shew the Jews a pleasure, left Paul bound.
