Canti di trionfo in cielo
19 Dopo ciò, udii come una voce potente di una folla immensa nel cielo che diceva:
«Alleluia!
Salvezza, gloria e potenza
sono del nostro Dio;
2 perché veri e giusti sono i suoi giudizi,
egli ha condannato la grande meretrice
che corrompeva la terra con la sua prostituzione,
vendicando su di lei
il sangue dei suoi servi!».
3 E per la seconda volta dissero:
«Alleluia!
Il suo fumo sale nei secoli dei secoli!».
4 Allora i ventiquattro vegliardi e i quattro esseri viventi si prostrarono e adorarono Dio, seduto sul trono, dicendo:
«Amen, alleluia».
5 Partì dal trono una voce che diceva:
«Lodate il nostro Dio,
voi tutti, suoi servi,
voi che lo temete,
piccoli e grandi!».
6 Udii poi come una voce di una immensa folla simile a fragore di grandi acque e a rombo di tuoni possenti, che gridavano:
«Alleluia.
Ha preso possesso del suo regno il Signore,
il nostro Dio, l'Onnipotente.
7 Rallegriamoci ed esultiamo,
rendiamo a lui gloria,
perché son giunte le nozze dell'Agnello;
la sua sposa è pronta,
8 le hanno dato una veste
di lino puro splendente».
La veste di lino sono le opere giuste dei santi.
9 Allora l'angelo mi disse: «Scrivi: Beati gli invitati al banchetto delle nozze dell'Agnello!». Poi aggiunse: «Queste sono parole veraci di Dio». 10 Allora mi prostrai ai suoi piedi per adorarlo, ma egli mi disse: «Non farlo! Io sono servo come te e i tuoi fratelli, che custodiscono la testimonianza di Gesù. E' Dio che devi adorare». La testimonianza di Gesù è lo spirito di profezia.
3. LO STERMINIO DELLE NAZIONI PAGANE
Il primo combattimento escatologico
11 Poi vidi il cielo aperto, ed ecco un cavallo bianco; colui che lo cavalcava si chiamava «Fedele» e «Verace»: egli giudica e combatte con giustizia.
12 I suoi occhi sono come una fiamma di fuoco, ha sul suo capo molti diademi; porta scritto un nome che nessuno conosce all'infuori di lui. 13 E' avvolto in un mantello intriso di sangue e il suo nome è Verbo di Dio. 14 Gli eserciti del cielo lo seguono su cavalli bianchi, vestiti di lino bianco e puro. 15 Dalla bocca gli esce una spada affilata per colpire con essa le genti. Egli le governerà con scettro di ferro e pigerà nel tino il vino dell'ira furiosa del Dio onnipotente. 16 Un nome porta scritto sul mantello e sul femore: Re dei re e Signore dei signori.
17 Vidi poi un angelo, ritto sul sole, che gridava a gran voce a tutti gli uccelli che volano in mezzo al cielo: 18 «Venite, radunatevi al grande banchetto di Dio. Mangiate le carni dei re, le carni dei capitani, le carni degli eroi, le carni dei cavalli e dei cavalieri e le carni di tutti gli uomini, liberi e schiavi, piccoli e grandi».
19 Vidi allora la bestia e i re della terra con i loro eserciti radunati per muover guerra contro colui che era seduto sul cavallo e contro il suo esercito. 20 Ma la bestia fu catturata e con essa il falso profeta che alla sua presenza aveva operato quei portenti con i quali aveva sedotto quanti avevan ricevuto il marchio della bestia e ne avevano adorato la statua. Ambedue furono gettati vivi nello stagno di fuoco, ardente di zolfo. 21 Tutti gli altri furono uccisi dalla spada che usciva di bocca al Cavaliere; e tutti gli uccelli si saziarono delle loro carni.

Threefold Hallelujah Over Babylon’s Fall
19 After this I heard what sounded like the roar of a great multitude(A) in heaven shouting:
“Hallelujah!(B)
Salvation(C) and glory and power(D) belong to our God,
2 for true and just are his judgments.(E)
He has condemned the great prostitute(F)
who corrupted the earth by her adulteries.
He has avenged on her the blood of his servants.”(G)
3 And again they shouted:
4 The twenty-four elders(J) and the four living creatures(K) fell down(L) and worshiped God, who was seated on the throne. And they cried:
“Amen, Hallelujah!”(M)
5 Then a voice came from the throne, saying:
6 Then I heard what sounded like a great multitude,(P) like the roar of rushing waters(Q) and like loud peals of thunder, shouting:
“Hallelujah!(R)
For our Lord God Almighty(S) reigns.(T)
7 Let us rejoice and be glad
and give him glory!(U)
For the wedding of the Lamb(V) has come,
and his bride(W) has made herself ready.
8 Fine linen,(X) bright and clean,
was given her to wear.”
(Fine linen stands for the righteous acts(Y) of God’s holy people.)
9 Then the angel said to me,(Z) “Write this:(AA) Blessed are those who are invited to the wedding supper of the Lamb!”(AB) And he added, “These are the true words of God.”(AC)
10 At this I fell at his feet to worship him.(AD) But he said to me, “Don’t do that! I am a fellow servant with you and with your brothers and sisters who hold to the testimony of Jesus. Worship God!(AE) For it is the Spirit of prophecy who bears testimony to Jesus.”(AF)
The Heavenly Warrior Defeats the Beast
11 I saw heaven standing open(AG) and there before me was a white horse, whose rider(AH) is called Faithful and True.(AI) With justice he judges and wages war.(AJ) 12 His eyes are like blazing fire,(AK) and on his head are many crowns.(AL) He has a name written on him(AM) that no one knows but he himself.(AN) 13 He is dressed in a robe dipped in blood,(AO) and his name is the Word of God.(AP) 14 The armies of heaven were following him, riding on white horses and dressed in fine linen,(AQ) white(AR) and clean. 15 Coming out of his mouth is a sharp sword(AS) with which to strike down(AT) the nations. “He will rule them with an iron scepter.”[a](AU) He treads the winepress(AV) of the fury of the wrath of God Almighty. 16 On his robe and on his thigh he has this name written:(AW)
king of kings and lord of lords.(AX)
17 And I saw an angel standing in the sun, who cried in a loud voice to all the birds(AY) flying in midair,(AZ) “Come,(BA) gather together for the great supper of God,(BB) 18 so that you may eat the flesh of kings, generals, and the mighty, of horses and their riders, and the flesh of all people,(BC) free and slave,(BD) great and small.”(BE)
19 Then I saw the beast(BF) and the kings of the earth(BG) and their armies gathered together to wage war against the rider on the horse(BH) and his army. 20 But the beast was captured, and with it the false prophet(BI) who had performed the signs(BJ) on its behalf.(BK) With these signs he had deluded(BL) those who had received the mark of the beast(BM) and worshiped its image.(BN) The two of them were thrown alive into the fiery lake(BO) of burning sulfur.(BP) 21 The rest were killed with the sword(BQ) coming out of the mouth of the rider on the horse,(BR) and all the birds(BS) gorged themselves on their flesh.

Rejoicing in Heaven
19 After this I heard (A)what seemed to be the loud voice of a great multitude in heaven, crying out,
“Hallelujah!
(B)Salvation and glory and power belong to our God,
2 for (C)his judgments are true and just;
for he has judged (D)the great prostitute
who corrupted the earth with her immorality,
and (E)has avenged on her the blood of his servants.”
3 Once more they cried out,
“Hallelujah!
(F)The smoke from her goes up forever and ever.”
4 And (G)the twenty-four elders and the four living creatures fell down and worshiped God who was seated on the throne, saying, “Amen. Hallelujah!” 5 And from the throne came a voice saying,
The Marriage Supper of the Lamb
6 Then I heard what seemed to be (J)the voice of a great multitude, like (K)the roar of many waters and (L)like the sound of mighty peals of thunder, crying out,
“Hallelujah!
For the Lord our God
the Almighty (M)reigns.
7 Let us rejoice and exult
and give him the glory,
for (N)the marriage of the Lamb has come,
and (O)his Bride has made herself ready;
8 (P)it was granted her to clothe herself
with fine linen, bright and pure”—
for the fine linen is (Q)the righteous deeds of the saints.
9 And the angel said[a] to me, “Write this: (R)Blessed are those who are invited to the marriage supper of the Lamb.” And he said to me, (S)“These are the true words of God.” 10 Then (T)I fell down at his feet to worship him, (U)but he said to me, “You must not do that! I am a fellow servant with you and your brothers who hold to (V)the testimony of Jesus. Worship God.” For the testimony of Jesus is the spirit of prophecy.
The Rider on a White Horse
11 Then I saw (W)heaven opened, and behold, (X)a white horse! The one sitting on it is called (Y)Faithful and True, and (Z)in righteousness he judges and makes war. 12 (AA)His eyes are like a flame of fire, and on his head are (AB)many diadems, and he has (AC)a name written that no one knows but himself. 13 He is clothed in (AD)a robe dipped in[b] blood, and the name by which he is called is (AE)The Word of God. 14 And the armies of heaven, (AF)arrayed in fine linen, white and pure, (AG)were following him on white horses. 15 (AH)From his mouth comes a sharp sword (AI)with which to strike down the nations, and (AJ)he will rule[c] them with a rod of iron. (AK)He will tread the winepress of the fury of the wrath of God the Almighty. 16 On his robe and on his thigh (AL)he has a name written, (AM)King of kings and Lord of lords.
17 Then I saw an angel standing in the sun, and with a loud voice he called to (AN)all the birds that fly directly overhead, (AO)“Come, gather for (AP)the great supper of God, 18 (AQ)to eat the flesh of kings, the flesh of captains, the flesh of mighty men, the flesh of horses and their riders, and the flesh of all men, both free and slave,[d] both small and great.” 19 And I saw (AR)the beast and the kings of the earth with their armies (AS)gathered to make war against him who was sitting on the horse and against his army. 20 And the beast was captured, and with it (AT)the false prophet (AU)who in its presence[e] had done the signs by which he deceived those who had received the mark of the beast and those who (AV)worshiped its image. These two were (AW)thrown alive into the lake of (AX)fire that burns with sulfur. 21 And the rest were slain by the sword (AY)that came from the mouth of him who was sitting on the horse, and (AZ)all the birds were gorged with their flesh.
