La Nuova Diodati
13 E vidi salire dal mare una bestia che aveva dieci corna e sette teste, e sulle corna dieci diademi e sulle teste nomi di bestemmia.
2 E la bestia che io vidi era simile a un leopardo, i suoi piedi erano come quelli dell'orso e la sua bocca come quella del leone; e il dragone le diede la sua potenza, il suo trono e grande autorità.
3 E vidi una delle sue teste come ferita a morte; ma la sua piaga mortale fu sanata, e tutta la terra si meravigliò dietro alla bestia.
4 E adorarono il dragone che aveva dato l'autorità alla bestia e adorarono la bestia dicendo: «Chi è simile alla bestia, e chi può combattere con lei?».
5 E le fu data una bocca che proferiva cose grandi e bestemmie; e le fu data potestà di operare per quarantadue mesi.
6 Essa aperse la sua bocca per bestemmiare contro Dio, per bestemmiare il suo nome, il suo tabernacolo e quelli che abitano nel cielo.
7 E le fu dato di far guerra ai santi e di vincerli; e le fu dato autorità sopra ogni tribú, lingua e nazione.
8 E l'adoreranno tutti gli abitanti della terra, i cui nomi non sono scritti nel libro della vita dell'Agnello, che è stato ucciso fin dalla fondazione del mondo.
9 Se uno ha orecchi, ascolti,
10 Se uno conduce in cattività, andrà in cattività; se uno uccide con la spada, deve essere ucciso con la spada. Qui è la costanza e la fede dei santi.
11 Poi vidi un'altra bestia, che saliva dalla terra, ed aveva due corna simili a quelle di un agnello, ma parlava come un dragone.
12 Essa esercitava tutta l'autorità della prima bestia davanti a lei, e faceva sí che la terra e i suoi abitanti adorassero la prima bestia, la cui piaga mortale era stata guarita.
13 E faceva grandi prodigi, facendo persino scendere fuoco dal cielo sulla terra in presenza degli uomini,
14 e seduceva gli abitanti della terra per mezzo dei prodigi che le era dato di fare davanti alla bestia, dicendo agli abitanti della terra di fare un'immagine alla bestia, che aveva ricevuto la ferita della spada ed era tornata in vita.
15 E le fu concesso di dare uno spirito all'immagine della bestia, affinché l'immagine della bestia parlasse, e di far sí che tutti coloro che non adoravano l'immagine della bestia fossero uccisi.
16 Inoltre faceva sí che a tutti, piccoli e grandi, ricchi e poveri, liberi e servi, fosse posto un marchio sulla loro mano destra o sulla loro fronte,
17 e che nessuno potesse comperare o vendere, se non chi aveva il marchio o il nome della bestia o il numero del suo nome.
18 Qui sta la sapienza. Chi ha intendimento conti il numero della bestia, perché è un numero d'uomo; e il suo numero è seicentosessantasei.

Ang Unang Halimaw
13 Pagkatapos(A) ay nakita kong umaahon sa dagat ang isang halimaw na may pitong ulo at sampung sungay. May korona ang bawat sungay nito at sa bawat ulo ay nakasulat ang mga pangalang[a] lumalapastangan sa Diyos. 2 Ang(B) halimaw ay parang leopardo, ang mga paa nito'y tulad ng mga paa ng oso, at ang bibig ay parang bibig ng leon. Ibinigay ng dragon sa halimaw ang kanyang sariling lakas, trono at malawak na kapangyarihan. 3 Ang isa sa mga ulo ng halimaw ay parang may sugat na nakamamatay, ngunit ito'y gumaling. Namangha ang buong daigdig sa nangyaring ito, at nagsisunod sila sa halimaw. 4 Sinamba ng lahat ng tao ang dragon sapagkat ibinigay nito ang kanyang kapangyarihan sa halimaw. Sinamba rin nila ang halimaw at sinabi nila, “Sino ang katulad ng halimaw? Sino ang makakalaban sa kanya?”
5 Pinahintulutang(C) magsalita ng kayabangan ang halimaw, lumapastangan sa Diyos, at maghari sa loob ng apatnapu't dalawang (42) buwan. 6 Nilapastangan nga niya ang Diyos, ang pangalan ng Diyos, ang tahanan ng Diyos, at ang lahat ng nakatira doon. 7 Pinahintulutan(D) din siyang digmain at lupigin ang mga hinirang ng Diyos, at binigyan siya ng karapatang mamahala sa bawat lahi, lipi, wika, at bansa. 8 Sasamba(E) sa kanya ang lahat ng nabubuhay sa ibabaw ng lupa, maliban sa mga taong ang mga pangalan ay nakasulat sa aklat ng buhay bago pa likhain ang sanlibutan. Ang aklat na ito'y pag-aari ng Korderong pinatay.
9 “Ang lahat ng may pandinig ay makinig! 10 Ang(F) sinumang itinakdang mabihag ay mabibihag nga; ang itinakdang mamatay sa tabak ay sa tabak nga mamamatay. Ito'y isang panawagan na magpakatatag at manatiling tapat ang mga hinirang ng Diyos.”
Ang Ikalawang Halimaw
11 At nakita ko ang isa pang halimaw na lumilitaw mula sa lupa. May dalawang sungay ito na tulad ng mga sungay ng isang batang tupa, ngunit nagsalita ito na parang dragon. 12 Ginamit niya ang lahat ng kapangyarihan ng unang halimaw upang ipatupad ang kagustuhan nito. Ang lahat ng tao sa lupa ay pinilit niyang sumamba sa unang halimaw na nagkaroon ng sugat na nakamamatay ngunit gumaling na. 13 Kahanga-hanga ang mga kababalaghang ginawa ng pangalawang halimaw; nagpaulan siya ng apoy mula sa langit, at ito'y nasaksihan ng mga tao. 14 Nalinlang niya ang lahat ng tao sa lupa sa pamamagitan ng mga kababalaghang kanyang ginawa sa harapan ng unang halimaw. Nahikayat niya ang mga taong gumawa ng isang larawan ng unang halimaw na nasugatan ng tabak ngunit nabuhay. 15 Ipinahintulot din sa kanya na bigyan niya ng hininga ang larawan ng unang halimaw. Kaya't nakapagsalita ang larawan at ipinapatay nito ang lahat ng ayaw sumamba sa kanya. 16 Sapilitang pinatatakan ng ikalawang halimaw ang lahat ng tao sa kanilang kanang kamay o sa noo, maging sila'y dakila o hamak, mayaman o mahirap, alipin o malaya. 17 At walang maaaring magtinda o bumili malibang sila'y may tatak ng pangalan ng halimaw o ng bilang na katumbas ng pangalan niyon. 18 Kailangan dito ang karunungan: maaaring malaman ng sinumang matalino ang kahulugan ng bilang ng halimaw, sapagkat ito'y bilang ng isang tao. Ang bilang ay animnaraan at animnapu't anim (666).

Chapter 13
1 Then I saw a beast rising out of the sea. It had ten horns and seven heads. On its horns were ten diadems, and on its heads were blasphemous names. 2 The beast that I saw resembled a leopard, but it had feet like those of a bear, and its mouth was like the mouth of a lion. The dragon conferred on the beast his own power and his throne, as well as great authority.
3 One of his heads appeared to me to have been mortally wounded, but its mortal wound had been healed. The whole world then became fascinated with the beast, 4 and they worshiped the dragon because he had conferred authority on the beast. They also worshiped the beast, saying, “Who can compare with the beast? Who can fight against it?”
5 It was allowed to mouth its haughty and blasphemous words, and it was granted permission to exercise its authority for forty-two months.[a] 6 It opened its mouth to utter blasphemies against God, as well as against his name and his dwelling and all those who live in heaven.
7 The beast was also allowed to wage war on the saints and conquer them, and it was given authority over every tribe, people, language, and nation. 8 All the inhabitants of the earth will worship it, all those whose names have not been written from the creation of the world[b] in the book of life belonging to the Lamb who was slain.
9 Whoever has ears should listen to these words:
10 “If anyone is to go into captivity,
into captivity he will go.
If anyone is destined to be slain by the sword,
by the sword he must be slain.”
This demands patient endurance and faithfulness on the part of the saints.
11 A Beast Rises from the Earth.[c] Then I saw another beast, this one rising up out of the earth. It had two horns like those of a lamb, but it spoke like a dragon. 12 It wielded all the authority of the first beast on its behalf, and it forced the earth and all its inhabitants to worship the first beast, whose mortal wound had been healed. 13 It performed great signs, even making fire come down from heaven to earth in the sight of all.
14 By the signs it was allowed to perform on behalf of the beast, it deceived the inhabitants of the earth, persuading them to erect an image for the beast that had been wounded by the sword and yet lived. 15 It was permitted to give life to the beast’s image so that it could even speak and cause all those to be put to death who would not worship the image of the beast.
16 It also forced all the people, both small and great, both rich and poor, both free and slave, to be branded on the right hand or on the forehead. 17 No one could buy or sell anything except one who has been branded with the name of the beast or with the number of its name.
18 There is wisdom here. Let anyone who has understanding calculate the number of the beast, for it is the number of a person. The number is six hundred and sixty-six.

- Revelation 13:11 The beast comes probably from Asia, because it was the East that gave rise to so many religious currents of thought that promoted emperor worship. The time has come when pressures are brought to bear and people are seduced. This picture fits in very well with the reign of Domitian, who banished Christians from the empire for refusing to practice emperor worship, the new sign of civic submission. The majority of believers resist, despite pressures and seductions of every kind.
The number of the beast has always been a snare for those who seek, by way of abstruse calculations, to identify the Antichrist with some figure of their own time. The number probably conceals the name of some personage known to readers of that time; the letters of the Greek alphabet and those of the Hebrew alphabet also stood for numbers, as is still the case with the Roman alphabet to some extent. Using gematria, a procedure for interpreting numbers, it was certainly possible to discern in the number 666 the words “Emperor Nero” in Hebrew. If we read “616” instead of “666,” as some manuscripts do, it could be “Emperor Nero” in Greek.
