Herren avskyr Israels högmod
6 Stackars dem som lever i lyx i Jerusalem och Samaria, städerna som är så berömda och populära.
2 Gå över till Kalne och se vad som händer där! Gå sedan till Stora Hamat och till Gat i filisteernas land! En gång var de bättre och mäktigare än ni, men se på dem nu!
3 Ni slår bort alla tankar på straffet som väntar er, men genom era onda gärningar drar ni domens dag allt närmare.
4 Ni ligger på elfenbensbäddar omgivna av lyx och äter den allra finaste mat.
5 Ni sjunger meningslösa sånger till harpa och menar er vara lika goda sångare och musikanter som kung David.
6 Ni dricker vin utan måtta och använder rikligt med dyrbar parfym, men ägnar inte en tanke åt dem av era landsmän som är i behov av hjälp.
7 Därför kommer ni att bli de första som får gå i landsflykt. Plötsligt ska allt ert festande ta slut.
8 Herren, härskarornas Gud, har svurit vid sitt eget namn: Jag avskyr det stolta folket i Israel och hatar deras lyx. Jag ska överlämna staden och allt i den till deras fiender.
9 Om det så bara finns tio man kvar, eller ett enda hus, så ska de också gå under.
10 Och om en släkting kommer till ett hus för att bränna de döda kropparna ska han fråga den ende överlevande därinne: Finns det några fler kvar? När han får ett nej till svar fortsätter han: Tyst, nämn inte Herrens namn, för han kan höra dig.
11 Herren hade nämligen befallt: Alla hus både stora och små, ska slås i spillror.
12 Vilken nytta gör en häst bland klippblock, och vem kan plöja med oxar i havet? Lika dåraktigt är det av er att nonchalera rättvisan och förvränga rätten.
13 Ni gläder er över er storhet, men är mindre än ingenting! Ni är stolta över er själva, men er styrka är inget att räkna med.
14 Israel, jag ska sända ett folk mot dig som ska förtrycka dig ända från din norra gräns till landets sydspets, hela vägen från Hamat till Hedmarksbäcken, säger Herren, härskarornas Gud.

6 ¡Ay de los que viven reposadamente en Sión(A),
y de los que se sienten seguros en el monte de Samaria,
los notables de las naciones principales(B),
a quienes acude la casa de Israel!
2 Pasad a Calne(C) y mirad,
y de allí id a Hamat(D) la grande,
descended luego a Gat(E) de los filisteos.
¿Sois vosotros[a] mejores que estos reinos,
o es su territorio mayor que el vuestro?
3 ¿Alejáis el día de la calamidad(F),
y acercáis la silla de la violencia(G)?
4 Los que se acuestan en camas(H) de marfil,
se tienden sobre sus lechos,
comen corderos del rebaño(I)
y terneros de en medio del establo;
5 que improvisan al son del arpa,
y como David han compuesto cantos[b] para sí(J);
6 que beben vino(K) en tazones del altar
y se ungen con los óleos más finos,
pero no se lamentan por la ruina de José(L),
7 irán por tanto ahora al destierro a la cabeza de los desterrados(M),
y se acabarán[c] los banquetes[d] de los disolutos(N).
8 El Señor Dios[e] ha jurado por sí mismo(O), ha declarado el Señor, Dios de los ejércitos:
Aborrezco la arrogancia de Jacob(P),
y detesto sus palacios(Q);
por tanto entregaré la ciudad y cuanto hay en ella(R).
9 Y sucederá que si diez hombres quedan en una misma casa, morirán(S). 10 Entonces su tío[f] o su incinerador, levantará a cada uno[g] para sacar sus huesos de la casa(T), y dirá al que está en el fondo de la casa: ¿Hay alguien más contigo? Y este responderá: Nadie. Entonces aquel dirá: Calla(U), porque no se debe hacer mención del nombre del Señor(V). 11 Porque he aquí, el Señor ordenará(W) que la casa grande sea reducida a escombros(X) y que la casa pequeña sea hecha pedazos.
12 ¿Corren los caballos por la peña?
¿Se ara en ella con bueyes?[h]
Pues vosotros habéis convertido el derecho en veneno,
y el fruto de la justicia en amargura[i](Y);
13 vosotros que os alegráis por Lo-debar[j](Z),
que decís: ¿No hemos tomado para nosotros Carnáyim[k]
con nuestra propia fuerza(AA)?
14 Pues he aquí, levantaré contra vosotros, oh casa de Israel,
—declara el Señor, Dios de los ejércitos—
una nación(AB) que os afligirá desde la entrada de Hamat(AC)
hasta el arroyo del Arabá.

Israel Will Be Destroyed
6 How terrible it will be for those who have an easy life in Jerusalem,
for those who feel safe living on Mount Samaria.
You think you are the important people of the best nation in the world;
the Israelites come to you for help.
2 Go look at the city of Calneh,
and from there go to the great city Hamath;
then go down to Gath of the Philistines.
You are no better than these kingdoms.
Your land is no larger than theirs.
3 You put off the day of punishment,
but you bring near the day when you can do evil to others.
4 You lie on beds decorated with ivory
and stretch out on your couches.
You eat tender lambs
and fattened calves.
5 You make up songs on your harps,
and, like David, you compose songs on musical instruments.
6 You drink wine by the bowlful
and use the best perfumed lotions.
But you are not sad over the ruin of Israel,
7 so you will be some of the first ones taken as slaves.
Your feasting and lying around will come to an end.
8 The Lord God made this promise; the Lord God All-Powerful says:
“I hate the pride of the Israelites,
and I hate their strong buildings,
so I will let the enemy take the city
and everything in it.”
9 At that time there might be only ten people left alive in just one house, but they will also die. 10 When the relatives come to get the bodies to take them outside, one of them will call to the other and ask, “Are there any other dead bodies with you?”
That person will answer, “No.”
Then the one who asked will say, “Hush! We must not say the name of the Lord.”
11 The Lord has given the command;
the large house will be broken into pieces,
and the small house into bits.
12 Horses do not run on rocks,
and people do not plow rocks with oxen.
But you have changed fairness into poison;
you have changed what is right into a bitter taste.
13 You are happy that the town of Lo Debar was captured,
and you say, “We have taken Karnaim[a] by our own strength.”
14 The Lord God All-Powerful says,
“Israel, I will bring a nation against you
that will make your people suffer from Lebo Hamath in the north
to the valley south of the Dead Sea.”
