A Lame Man Healed

3 Now Peter and John went up together ^(A)to the temple at the hour of prayer, ^(B)the ninth hour. ² And ^(C)a certain man lame from his mother’s womb was carried, whom they laid daily at the gate of the temple which is called Beautiful, ^(D)to ^[a]ask alms from those who entered the temple; ³ who, seeing Peter and John about to go into the temple, asked for alms. ⁴ And fixing his eyes on him, with John, Peter said, “Look at us.” ⁵ So he gave them his attention, expecting to receive something from them. ⁶ Then Peter said, “Silver and gold I do not have, but what I do have I give you: ^(E)In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, rise up and walk.” ⁷ And he took him by the right hand and lifted him up, and immediately his feet and ankle bones received strength. ⁸ So he, ^(F)leaping up, stood and walked and entered the temple with them—walking, leaping, and praising God. ^9 (G)And all the people saw him walking and praising God. ¹⁰ Then they knew that it was he who ^(H)sat begging alms at the Beautiful Gate of the temple; and they were filled with wonder and amazement at what had happened to him.

Preaching in Solomon’s Portico

¹¹ Now as the lame man who was healed held on to Peter and John, all the people ran together to them in the porch ^(I)which is called Solomon’s, greatly amazed. ¹² So when Peter saw it, he responded to the people: “Men of Israel, why do you marvel at this? Or why look so intently at us, as though by our own power or godliness we had made this man walk? ^13 (J)The God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, the God of our fathers, ^(K)glorified His Servant Jesus, whom you ^(L)delivered up and ^(M)denied in the presence of Pilate, when he was determined to let Him go.

⁷ And when they had set them in the midst, they asked, ^(A)“By what power or by what name have you done this?”

^8 (B)Then Peter, filled with the Holy Spirit, said to them, “Rulers of the people and elders of Israel: ⁹ If we this day are judged for a good deed done to a helpless man, by what means he has been made well, ¹⁰ let it be known to you all, and to all the people of Israel, ^(C)that by the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, whom you crucified, ^(D)whom God raised from the dead, by Him this man stands here before you whole. ¹¹ This is the ^(E)‘stone which was rejected by you builders, which has become the chief cornerstone.’ ^12 (F)Nor is there salvation in any other, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved.”

2 And ^(A)you He made alive, ^(B)who were dead in trespasses and sins,

^5 (A)even when we were dead in trespasses, ^(B)made us alive together with Christ (by grace you have been saved),

^23 (A)having been born again, not of ^[a]corruptible seed but ^[b]incorruptible, ^(B)through the word of God which lives and abides ^[c]forever,
