²⁰ But Peter said to him, ^(A)“May your silver perish with you, because you thought you could obtain the gift of God ^(B)with money!

¹⁷ Then Daniel answered and said before the king, ^(A)“Let your gifts be for yourself, and give your rewards to another. Nevertheless, I will read the writing to the king and make known to him the interpretation.

³⁸ And Peter said to them, ^(A)“Repent and ^(B)be baptized every one of you ^(C)in the name of Jesus Christ ^(D)for the forgiveness of your sins, and you will receive ^(E)the gift of the Holy Spirit.

^8 (A)Heal the sick, raise the dead, cleanse lepers,^[a] cast out demons. ^(B)You received without paying; give without pay.

^15 (A)The merchants of these wares, who gained wealth from her, ^(B)will stand far off, in fear of her torment, weeping and mourning aloud,

¹⁴ They have eyes full of adultery,^{[a] (A)}insatiable for sin. They entice unsteady souls. They have hearts ^(B)trained in greed. ^(C)Accursed children! ¹⁵ Forsaking the right way, ^(D)they have gone astray. They have followed ^(E)the way of Balaam, the son of Beor, who loved ^(F)gain from wrongdoing, ¹⁶ but was rebuked for his own transgression; ^(G)a speechless donkey spoke with human voice and restrained the prophet's madness.

^17 (H)These are waterless springs and mists driven by a storm. ^(I)For them the gloom of utter darkness has been reserved.

³ Your gold and silver have corroded, and their corrosion will be evidence against you and will eat your flesh like fire. ^(A)You have laid up treasure ^(B)in the last days.

²² Repent, therefore, of this wickedness of yours, and pray to the Lord that, ^(A)if possible, the intent of your heart may be forgiven you.

¹⁷ If then ^(A)God gave ^(B)the same gift to them as he gave to us ^(C)when we believed in the Lord Jesus Christ, ^(D)who was I ^(E)that I could stand in God's way?”
